PEARCE STAYS ENGLAND U21 BOSS

Stuart Pearce has been confirmed as England's Under 21 coach on a full-time contract.

 

The former England international has agreed a two-year deal which will run until after the 2009 Uefa European Under 21 Championship.

 

Pearce was originally put in charge of England's youngsters on a part-time basis while still Manchester City manager, but was sacked by the Premier League club at the end of last season.

 

The 45-year-old led England to the semi-finals of last month's European Under 21 Championship in Holland.

 

England were knocked out by the hosts in a marathon penalty shoot-out, but Pearce impressed many during the tournament.

 

The Football Association saw enough to hand Pearce the role full-time, with his first game of the new season against Romania on 21st August.

Fairly amused at how, in his first few months as City boss, everyone was calling for him to manage the National team.

It's amazing how much a managers stock can rise and fall in a year, that game Souness got the sack, City beat us 3-0, the whole ground "PSYCHO PSYCHO PSYCHO" , twelve months later he's getting hate mail.

 

Same with Robson, 3rd in the 2003, the best thing that's ever happened to us etc... 12 months later we draw 1-1 with Wolves come 5th, he's calling us ungrateful bastards on the tannoy, and 5,000 stay back to watch the lap of honour.

It's one of the last few things it's "ok" to arbitrarily hate..... and I think maybe they get more now because of that.
