  1. David James has stated in the media in the last couple of days that Pompey won’t be registering for European entry anyway as winning the FA Cup sent them into financial meltdown.

The players had contracts giving them mega bonuses, not only to the players but to the clubs that they’d signed from. To attract the players they offered them huge wages and also slapped payouts for ridiculous things that could never happen — including for FA Cup winners and for qualifying for Europe too!

James was wrong then as Pompey have just won an appeal to re apply for a UEFA Licence.

  2. Only ever been into the Apple store in Manchester to use the internet when I've wanted to look something up, they tell you to piss off after 10 minutes but they're more than happy for people to check their emails etc. Won't need to do this ever again when my iphone arrives I guess.

  3. Kazenga, Vukic, Spear and Tozer are the best young lads we have...If we still have all of them that is.

Did Dennis Wise sign all of them? :D

They're all too old for the U 18s anyway. If they don't step up to the plate in the next 12 months they'll be released.

Spear isn't too old for the under 18's, he's only a first year scholar iirc.

Vuckic is still only 17 as well so can play at that level but is currently injured.

Spear didn't play last night but may well be injured or his cat might of died or something... ;)

Does anyone know what the word is on the U18s?...do they stand a good chance of winning it?

I think we have a better chance than in resent years due to who is left in it.

Liverpool, Villa and Chelsea would be the three strongest teams left in it imo but if Liverpool beat Watford they play Chelsea in the next round.

We play the winner of Hull V Palace in the next round and the game will be at St. James' Park the week after next so if you can get yourself along.

I'd love to mate but I live on the south coast now. Due to one thing and another tomorrow night is going to cost me 150 quid for a flight up north :icon_lol:

Do you watch the young uns regular like?

I used to aye but I don't get to see them as often as I did a few years ago when I would get to about 8 or 9 academy games a season but I try to keep up to date on what is going on with them.

The only names I recognise are Alnwick (Bens brother?) Inman and Tavernier, who have all played in the reserves. This is an under 18 team which I think means they are in the first year of their first professional contract. So this is last years academy players.Which means that Dennis Wiae may have recruited some of them ;) Good result, but we'll see how things go...who do they have in the next round?

It is an under 18 side made up of 1st and 2nd year academy scholars.

I think Shane Ferguson is the only one who is on a pro contract.

  7. OK, not trying to hijack this thread but I might be heading off to Texas in the next couple of weeks for the sake of international romantic reasons, I have a traditional passport, the non-biometric type, do I need a Visa ??? I have hastily booked a session at the passport office to get mine upgraded at daft expense, it seems its too late to get a Visa at this notice but would I need one with the old style passport ??? I could really do without shelling out £130 for a new passport if I don't need one.

They will give you entry for 90 days at immigration control at the airport, obviously you can't work etc.

But will they give me that on my old skool passport ? I was reading on the US Embassy website that if you have the new fancy biometric passports you qualify for the Visa waiver program. If I don't need to be shelling out for a new passport I'd rather not.

It seems you will only need a new one if your old one isn't 'machine readable'.

  8. Another one of Fat Sams great signings bites the dust, good riddance, still cannot understand why any other coach at Newcastle included him in the team

To be fair he did quite well under Keegan when we went on that run towards the end of the season.

Should never have signed him in the first place though, if only Fat Sam had listened to Sir Bobby.
