Recruitment career
In January 2012, Mitchell joined Championship club Southampton as Head of Recruitment. The club gained promotion to the Premier League in his first season and Mitchell began working with Mauricio Pochettino following his appointment in January 2013. He oversaw the signings of players including Nathaniel Clyne, Maya Yoshida, Paulo Gazzaniga and Steven Davis.
Following Pochettino's move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Mitchell completed his switch in November 2014 to link up with the manager. He helped the club sign players such as Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld.
In February 2018, Mitchell was named Head of Recruitment and Development by Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. In his first transfer window with the club, Mitchell helped sign Matheus Cunha and Nordi Mukiele, as well as Arsenal youth prospect Emile Smith Rowe on loan. Mitchell attracted interest from several Premier League clubs throughout 2019 and was heavily linked to a move to Manchester United. Reports suggested he was offered an expanded role as Technical Director to oversee Red Bull's global football – including FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls.
In June 2020, Mitchell joined Monaco as sporting director

That’s debatable…a Berlingo has windows all the way round and seats front and back. It could however be adapted quickly and simply into a vital transport link for an amount of two “live” beehives at a time every August; to take them from their usual valley location up to the high hills where they feasted on the heather blossom of late summer producing beautifully pungent heather honey 😊

He replied to a tweet earlier that we’ve spoken to Maldini twice about becoming our DoF…. although he seems to have deleted it now…have subsequently spent most of the afternoon fantasising about us announcing the appointment the same week as Ashworth appoints Southgate as ETH’s replacement… then Paolo making Federico Chiesa his first signing…good olive oii drizzled on warm Focaccia with a large glass of Primitivo..fava beans and a nice Chianti etc etc…

Chuffed as nuts. Didn’t apply for a ticket. Then fancied going after the spurs match so put the feelers out and got lucky. Then Monday I got a text reminding me that it’s Orbital in Southampton tomorrow night and not being in the first flush of youth as they say I flogged the ticket on and so I won’t be getting in at stupid o’clock tomorrow morning after that paying to watch that parcel of fucking shit 😀
Thoughts and prayers with agent @Dr Gloom though 🙏🏻😔 hope he’s not regretting his life choices tonight
