Ray Ranson has withdrawn his bid to buy Manchester City.

But he has reserved the right to renew his interest in the future should former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra make a formal offer.

Ranson made a revised proposal to the Manchester City board with a view to mounting a takeover bid in April.

That came after the 46-year-old former City full-back's first offer for the club - believed to be £90m - did not meet with the City board's approval.

He's failed in bids for Villa and now Citeh, maybe he might attempt to join in the bidding for the Toon.

Alan Oliver called me to say this is not the case.

"Reports that Ray Ranson will buy the club by the end of the week are wide of the mark. A club insider told me."
