Starmer was doing his job as a human rights barrister and giving the bloke his statutory entitlement to a legal defence. That doesn't mean he necessarily agreed with it, anymore than a barrister defending someone up on a murder charge is a massive fan of murder.5 points

Israel has played a terrible hand in this. They’re the aggressor in this case. Netanyahu only managed to cling to power, after several elections failed to produce a governing majority, by forming a coalition of all the worst fringe politicians in the country. Imagine if we were governed by Reform and the English Defence League. It’s that bad. Worse actually because he’s got the religious fundamentalists propping him up too - and they really do believe in a one state solution, ethnic cleansing in other words. These nutters do not speak for the majority of Israelis, just as the Iranian regime don’t speak for all Iranians. My family in Israel are going through hell. My cousin recently had to undergo chemotherapy in an air raid shelter.4 points

Iran was a fully functioning democracy before the CI A and the UK staged a couple because the democratically elected government voted to renationalise the oil fields that the UK and the US were exploiting. They installed a puppet monarch which lead inevitably to revolution It always comes down to oil in the end4 points

Was down Headingly on Friday. Picked the best day to go didn't I! Only 3 wickets and burned to a crisp. Still wouldn't have missed it.4 points

Uh oh, Wykiki is riled again.... "So I decided to treat t'missus, Brenda, to a fancy night away. You know, break the routine. So I booked us into this swanky hotel, cost me a princely £360 for one night! Three hundred and sixty quid! I nearly had a heart attack just typing in me card details. Brenda, mind, she was buzzing, all excited about the 'luxury experience,' as she called it. I was just hoping they had decent tea bags, not them flimsy ones that tear as soon as you look at 'em. T'room was grand, I'll give 'em that. Plush carpets, a bed you could get lost in, and even tiny bottles of shampoo that smelled like a French perfume shop. We had a decent enough evening, even if I felt a bit out of place even in me best trousers. Come morning, we head down for breakfast. Now, I'm a full English man, me. Bacon, sausages, black pudding, the lot. You can keep your English tapas muck Fish. Brenda, though, she gets all high and mighty. "Oh, I'll just have a latte, darling," she says, all prim and proper to the waitress. I just grunted, thinking, 'it's just a coffee, Brenda, not a royal decree.' We finished up, and I was just about to head off to find me car when the waitress comes over with a little slip of paper. "Your invoice, sir," she says, all smiles. I took it, thinking it was just a confirmation of the room, you know. Then I saw it. Right there, staring me in the face, plain as day: "Latte: £4.50." Four pounds fifty pence! For a bleeding cup of milky coffee! I tell you what, me blood pressure shot up faster than Wiggins on steroids. My feathers were properly spiraling, I can tell you. I felt like I'd been mugged in broad daylight, but with a silver spoon and a polite smile. I paid it, of course, because Brenda was giving me the 'don't make a scene' look. But as soon as we were in the car, I let rip. "Four pounds fifty! For a latte! I could buy a whole sack of t'Yorkshire Tea for that! It's an absolute disgrace, Brenda, a robbery in plain sight!" Four pounds fifty though. I'll never get over it. Never. CUNTS.3 points

Must have missed the cross from Livramento to Isak and the general direction the club has gone in recent years despite all efforts to make things as impossible as possible for Newcastle. I will keep my mouth shut…2 points

I was speaking relatively. Other than Ukraine and the Middle East, Pakistan and India were flying hundreds of planes at each other about a month ago and who knows how long till China decides to test out it's capabilities on Taiwan. For the most part we've seen proxy wars, insurgencies and terrorism in the last few decades. The US and allies bombing countries that had little ability to defend themselves. We've now got far right nut jobs in charge across the world and whatever semblance of moral, stable US leadership/hegemony is evaporating fast. The thinking clear across so many recent incidents and escalations now is if you want something and think you can get if off the smaller/weaker guy, do it. To hell with international law, UN charters etc.2 points

Elswick / Rye Hill I saw things in cruddas park shops that Iraqis and Iranians wouldn’t wish on any American tbh.2 points

Iran was an enlightened place before the islamic revolution. Now, not so much. Is that our fault or the Ayatollahs? I dunno. You can go there with all the correct visas and paper work but good chance you're not coming back. Yes, the US are to some extent following the play book. I don't want to chance visiting there again any time soon. Honestly don't know anywhere near enough about Israeli politics to explain Netanyahu, I know Glooms the board expert on that. Doubt I'll ever go there either. I still think European values are aspirational though and I include the UK in that, for now.2 points

100%. I’ve got a lot of issues with him but that’s a fucking pathetic tweet imo. It’s almost Owen Jones levels of naive simplicity2 points

I struggle to quantify it tbh. Yes, Israel are traditionally our ally, but under its current leadership, I don't trust them - but that doesn't mean I trust Iran any more than them. Israel are one of only 3 nations to possess nukes but not sign the NPT.2 points

Just back from a weekend in Hunstanton. Who needs pintxos in San Sebastian when you can be watching a ropey ABBA tribute band on an open-air stage in Sunny Hunny?2 points

Invariably, long term it will produce more insurgency, Israel will never sleep at peace. And the US has destroyed whatever little credibility it had left, other nations will push for arms from China and we will all live in a much more dangerous world. Who knew arming and funding a genocidal maniac in the middle east could have resulted in this? Iran signed a deal that Trump tore up. Then they were negotiating with the US when Israel struck. Then they were negotiating with Europe when the US struck but they're the bad guys in all this supposedly. And look at the posturing from Israel and US too btw, "we've struck your nuclear facilities but now YOU must negotiate for peace or die" I mean ok This is nothing but modern colonialism and imperialism and eventually it will meet the same fate that all empires do.2 points

Sounds like PSR has been delaying this one. I wonder if a we have a bit of cash set aside to take advantage of other clubs PSR issues (Jacob Ramsay) but the big buys will happen next month1 point

Is there any scenario where we get to July 1st and the club suddenly brings 2 or 3 signings over the line that have been set up quietly while waiting for the PSR deadline to pass, or do we think we'd have inevitably heard something before now.1 point

Erm, no. A nuclear armed Iran would be an existential threat for all of us with their connections with the Houthi, Hezbollah, and Hamas etc. WMD and religious zealotry are a bad combination. And yes, I am certainly including the US rapture crew in this, but we're a bit late there. The answer surprisingly was diplomacy. But now that has well and truly been shown to be a sham where Trump and the US are concerned, not to mention Israel who are now brazen liars not to be trusted. So Iran will be hell bent on getting nukes now regardless of the consequences.1 point

This is Trump's real entry to the big league. I genuinely think this emboldens him and he'll soon land troops on Greenland. Iraq will incur a refugee crisis upon its neighbours and Western Europe the likes of which we'll have never seen before... don't have kids but I feel very sorry for all yours ..1 point

Aye and we havent signed anyone in 3 windows or whatever. My point wasn’t about whether or not we’d signed good players, it was that they navigated PSR close to the point of disaster1 point
