  2. And btw the negativity in the match threads on here is off the fucking charts at the minute. And not just if we go behind. If we start a game and things don't immediately go our way, it's toys getting flung all over the shop. And if we do go behind, fucking hell. I was watching the match and flicking through here yesterday and thinking wtf am I bothering reading this for. Fine if that's the way it is now, but I think I'll stop bothering when the games are on. It used to be decent craic on here during matches, people joking on and being able to cope in the absence of absolute gameday perfection from minute 1 to minute 90.

  3. Was chatting with an old friend yesterday, she was over for visit from her home in Vancouver where she’s lived for years now. She was saying that prior to Drumpf’s tariff bullshit, the west coast of Canada would do most of its local trade with the west coast of US, same on the east coast, simply because it was easier than trading internally due to the vast distances involved. Carney is now leading a push to increase internal Canadian trade massively. ( She mentioned that people just don’t realise how big Canada is, noting that the distance from where we were ( Whitley Bay) to Toronto is only a bit more than the distance from Vancouver to Toronto). Given how patriotic Canadians are, I really hope they keep this up, even when MM dies and the Right are locked up.

  6. Wierd watching experience for me yesterday. First half was utter torture I hated every second, to the extent I was going to skip the second half. But then I had a word with myself, remembered we were playing in the Champions League and resolved to just try and enjoy the experience. Worked for 40 minutes YMMV but for me after so many years of drudgery Im just going to try and appreciate the journey we are on

  7. For the life of me, I cannot understand why any European would want to set foot in the US at the moment. It has absolutely nothing to offer Europe hasn't got, it is insanely expensive, it is a neo fascist state, it is openly hostile towards us, and now it wants our toontastic accounts. I'd go so far to say that any Brit holidaying there is a TRAITOR.

  8. I think you are underestimating how big a worldwide star he is, and the appeal he would have in the Saudi league. He's the current premier league player of the year - Saudi clubs would be in a bidding war for his signature Sickening that Liverpool will come out on top again, but that's the reality

  9. You know though, that with all of the mystique built up around Salah and Liverpool, if a Saudi team came in with £100m the PL would shrug it's shoulders and go, yeah that looks like fair market value to me, why not. And not a word would be spoken against it by any of the mainstream football media.

  15. I watched last night's match on premier sports, which I'm gonna take a punt on being from the emerald isle being as every fucker on it, commentators, pundits etc were all irish. didn't know who any of them were barring shay given but the cunts mentioned on numerous occasions the rat's lack of a preseason. fucking pathetic man at this point. at 26 year old I was smoking enough cannabis to keep howard marks very busy, dropping enough acid to make albert hoffman proud of his achievements and liberty caps were struggling to produce enough spores to keep me in psilocybin. on top of that, if every fucking adult in this country had simultaneously packed in drinking I would've singlehandedly kept all the breweries ticking over at a reasonable profit. I was making a canny attempt at getting me leg over most nights too. despite that I'd have been fucking mortified with meself if an elite football club with all its trainers, facilities, dieticians and sports scientists etc couldn't have licked me in to shape in four months never mind a young bloke who's spent most of his life as a professional footballer. have some fucking dignity man and stop making excuses for the skinny fucking cunt and tell the truth. he's not suffering because he missed half a dozen friendly kick abouts with newcastle in july, he's turned to shit because of his own fucking disgusting attitude.

  22. said it in the other thread but the only area where ramsdale looks better to me is his distribution. it's a small sample size but i'd bring pope back in based on what i've seen from ramsdale so far.

  23. One thing I think that comes up a lot in criticism btw is this bit about us giving the ball away too much etc. IMO that happens because we're trying to break the lines by moving it quickly and taking risks - it's the consequence of not just playing it sideways. Yes it fails sometimes, yes we could get better at it, but that's a calculated risk we seem to have decided to take. And tbh, I actually think we're pretty good at it. We could get better, but you can see that we're really trying to be direct most of the game.

  24. I agree with this. If people want to use the match threads to vent and moan fair enough. It's not for me though

  25. Us getting through in the top 8 wouldn't even have been considered at the start of the season. We've got a really good chance of getting through via the playoffs, and that's class. Howe is once again the victim of his own success to an extent here, because people started to dream, and that dream became the expectation for some.

  26. Before the game I’d have happily taken the draw and after the first half performance, absolutely would. But how we came out after the break, took the game to them, got the lead, hit the post twice and forced a brilliant save out of their keeper, it smarts a little to concede a late equaliser. But we shouldn’t forget the enormity of the competion or the opposition. This lot won at both Man City and Dortmund in the last two weeks. 10 points after 6 games is a great return as well.

  32. Gordon on the left and Elanga on the right have the ability to cause serious humiliation with their pace. Both looked very much improved to me recently. The game will be won in the centre of the park tbh. We do need to boss the midfield. We will need Joelinton just for his willingness to get involved physically. I would sacrifice either Bruno or Sandro for Miley who has performed really well recently. Bruno has been hit and miss and Tonali looked jaded. The thing we must not allow them to do is dominate the game and get the ground going. As long as we turn up and match their willingness to win we should be fine.

  33. Regarding Burn, his level has dropped a bit recently but its hard to blame him given how much he's been playing. He was outstanding at CB up until a couple of weeks ago. It's also a bit unreasonable to expect players to continue playing like that indefinitely at this level, he'd be bloody Maldini or Cannavaro then. But he does need a rest although he wont get it on Sunday you'd think. On Ramsdale I agree we shouldnt be spending $20M or so on him. Might be harsh given his game time but he doesnt seem to be very good at anything to me. He's better with his feet than Pope, but so would be pretty much any other keeper. He's supposed to be good at distribution but I remember quite a few balls going directly to opposition players last two games, I dunno. Joe is the biggest concern for me right now. We keep hearing about injuries so I don't know if he's become a perma crock; or now that Miggy and Longstaff are gone he's just the next most limited player technically but he's sticking out like a sore thumb. Great to see Miley doing so well and he's got to get a proper run now at some stage. Not sure whats up with Ramsey but I had high hopes for him initially, hopefully more game time will do him good as well.

  34. Another frustrating end to a match we should have won on balance. Shit first half but whatever was said at half time worked because we played much higher up the pitch. Gordon, who was shit in first half, suddenly starts receiving it in more dangerous positions and going on the outside instead of cutting inside every time. Our struggles to break down a well organised low block were exposed again in the first half. loads of sideways and backwards passes. Only Bruno looked to play a brave forward pass but couldn’t find his range. Joelinton is currently our weak link in midfield. He’s been quality since his reinvention as a midfielder but was a passenger most of the game and he’s had too many games like that this season. We looked loads better after Miley came on. He gave us so much more control. Gordon is right about the mentality. There’s a reason we keep throwing away leads at the death. I’d like Howe to make more positive changes when we’re ahead to mitigate it because we’re shit at defending a lead.

  35. I think it's fair to say we need to bring in Pope's replacement this summer at the latest. Ramsdale gives us good cover and better distribution and ball playing but lacks size and command of the area. If getting Trafford in means Livramento moves the other way then fuck that. Much easier IMO to bring in a European keeper with size and better feet than Pope than it is to get a player with Livramento's pace/engine/quality.
