  1. Shearer is also understood to have lined up a move for Leeds United’s prolific centre-forward Jermaine Beckford and is also keeping a close eye on former United defender Andy Griffin’s position at Stoke City.

Griffin, who made 103 appearances for the Magpies between 1998-2004, played with Shearer at St James’s Park and, although predominantly a right-back, he, like Gunter, can play on both flanks.

The 30-year-old returned to first club Stoke last summer but has fallen out with manager Tony Pulis and wants to move on. He said: “I would say (my chances) are bleak to say the least.

“I haven’t started since the game at West Ham (when he was involved in an on-field spat with team-mate Ricardo Fuller), so I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to understand where I stand in the manager’s thoughts.

“All I can say is I had a fall-out with the manager and, as a result of that, was not in the team.

“Sometimes I wasn’t travelling and was cutting the grass at 3pm on a Saturday.

“It is disappointing, but that is what happens when you fall out with the boss.

“But if and when I go, I will thank the manager for bringing me back home.”

considering our desperate need for FB's might be worth a shot.

  2. The Dutch anti-immigrant maverick, Geert Wilders, scored his biggest victory yesterday, seizing 15% and second place in European elections for the Netherlands, according to exit polls last night.

The bleached blond populist, barred from Britain and facing prosecution at home for hate speech, led his Freedom party to win four of the Netherlands' 25 seats in the European parliament at the first attempt, pushing the Labour party of the coalition government's finance minister, Wouter Bos, into third place.

Wilders wants the European parliament abolished, Bulgaria and Romania kicked out of the EU, the mass deportation of immigrants from the Netherlands, and a minimum say for Brussels over Dutch policy. The virulence of his anti-Islam and anti-immigrant activities saw him barred from entering Britain earlier this year, while the Dutch authorities are prosecuting him for inciting hatred.

He is also under 24-hour security amid intense hostility to his statements on Islam, likening the Koran to Hitler's Mein Kampf and making a film depicting Islam as a vehicle of violence and terrorism.

Last night's estimate of 15% represented a big increase on the 6% he took in the last general election in 2006, despite fielding a list of unknowns for seats in the European parliament. "Geert Wilders' onward march in Dutch politics continues," said the newspaper, De Telegraaf.

    A war is coming.

  4. The new teams will be interesting to watch. BBC often show old Grand Prix on the red button in the lead up to a race and it always takes me back seeing Forti, Simtek, Pacific and even Jordan when they had Hart engines. Also interesting to see the shape and looks of the cars over the years with rule changes and aerodynamics taking effect.

I hope the budget cap has been sorted. I think there should be a bit more testing, but everyone should have a budget of £Xm. And that the gold medal point scoring thing should just be dropped.

Who was it that had the six wheeled cars all those years ago? Dark blue and sponsored by Elf iirc.

    :icon_lol:

that would be the Tyrrell p34 from 1976. Williams tested a 6 wheel car in the 80's i think which had 4 wheels at the back ie. double the traction so it was banned on the spot cos it would have walked the championship that year!!

found this on you tube. canny cool!!

  5. He won't be able to sell, or he'll get an offer that his greed will not allow him to. The day before the season kicks off he will take us off the market and say he's going to get right behind the team, expects us to, this time he is serious about us ...etc etc etc.

totally agree. just a ploy to have a fire sale and not buy any players imo :icon_lol:

  6. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is close to sealing a £2.5million deal for Newcastle striker Alan Smith.

Allardyce, who has rejected a £2m offer from Olympiakos for Matt Derbyshire, has been targeting the ex-England man since he took over at Ewood Park.

Newcastle are desperate to offload Smith following their relegation and may help contribute to his £60,000-a-week wages.

Smith failed to make an impact despite being bought from Manchester United for £5m.

Allardyce is convinced the one-time England front man could be a bargain priced replacement for the departing Roque Santa Cruz.

Derbyshire, meanwhile, wants to return to Olympiakos but Rovers have demanded closer to £5m for the 23-year-old.
