  1. I don't think anyone is saying Ben Arfa is blameless but he has shown he has talent that can be nurtured. Pardew has not.

It seems that the treatment of the player lies with the manager. By all accounts the board still see a good player there and recognise he's a fan favourite but Pardew seems to have unlimited credit with those fuckwits.

Honestl though, if it came down to a choice between either Pardew or Ben Arfa leaving, you'd have to be mug to choose the manager over a player that can win matches.

It seems to be rather fashionable to bash Pardew at every opportunity. He was touted for England, so he's clearly not anywhere near as bad as people make out.

Keep in mind he's regularly had key players sold.

At no point has Ben Arfa said he plans to knuckle down and earn his spot back. All I hear from his agent is how harsh the club is and that he'll see out his final year.

  2. Gotta say, Obertan's body looks really fit, and I mean Sissoko type of fit. Wouldn't mind seeing him give a go upfront to see how he compares with the central defenders.

When Obertan plays in the reserves it's like watching Robben, shame he turns utter dog sh*t in the firsts.

He was only 21 when we signed him, so maybe he should have gone out on loan to get games under his belt.

  3. Maybe I'm being too cynical here but I fully expect Remy to start the season at QPR and if we sign that lad Ferreyra that will be the end of our transfer business.

A lot depends on how his return to QPR goes next week.

They left Taarabt out of the pre-season, link, so there's a high chance the players will make him an outcast.

  4. I have to question why Pardew has seemingly froze him out under a cloud of uncertainty.

Surely Pardew should sit him or his agent down and make the path back into the first team clear - e.g. assign him a club appointed personal trainer, dietitian and psychologist.

I can only assume Pardew has not made it clear because he's in the last year of his contract and he wants him to leave.

  5. I've been wondering why Southampton aren't just holding on to all of these players? They're the model of ambition, aren't they? Ambitious clubs simply don't sell their best players.

The ambition left Southampton when the chairman, Nicola Cortese, walked. Dont forget he was contentiously spending the Markus Liebherr estates money - so it was never going to last long.

  6.

I worry about a season where we can only call on 2 of 3 centrebacks, especially when two of them are similarly average and the third is good, but not getting any younger.

Most teams have three first team centre backs and at least one youth player. Having anymore makes it difficult to run training.

Everton for example only have Distin, Jagielka & Stones

  7. I don't understand this "Well, we're definitely done recruiting now" attitude. All evidence points to an effort to strengthen the first team, so why would areas that have been publicly identified long ago to be weak, be left in a weakened state?

I see Ayoze and Riviere as replacements for Shola and Ranger, not Remy or Cisse. I still reckon we'll get another striker to replace Remy, because frankly everyone can see we need it.

I personally believe we need to vastly improve our Central Defence, but I don't think that will be addressed as I don't believe it's seen as a problem by the management team.

Taylor, Mbwia & Williamson are all more than competent to play along side Coloccini.

However there has been strong rumours all summer that we are trying to offload Mbwia, so maybe the club agree with you.

  8. Nobody gave a shit when Allardyce was binned for no real reason

I miss the days watching Smith & Geremi in midfield hoping to nick a goal, but losing 1-0

Even the BBC report couldnt hold back....

After a shocking first half the game improved

A disappointing contest was settled by ...

both teams struggled to put together a succession of passes, the Boxing Day crowd growing ever more frustrated.

  9. Ben arfa fucked Cisse up by never picking out runs. If we have players who play for the striker then Cisse will once again be awesome.

In fact (hf prediction thread), this season will be rememebered for the Cissenati kids comeback.

    :CT:

  10. Thanks both. I've give those a whirl. I do use chrome incidentally.

As you are using chrome, give IE a test. if it's fine, its the chrome plugin.

We rolled Chrome out at work. We had to take it off within a month, we saw this loads.

  11.

Oh so because we didn't just accept the first derisory bid we're not a selling club? There's a trend emerging where we sell our best players. Said players wanting to leave is because we're a selling club. A vicious circle, really.

There's nothing wrong with being a selling club. We only sell important players for very good fees.

The issue is more that dont replace them properly. Cabella and Grenier are both available for a reasonable price, but we half arse around rather than getting them in before pre-season training starts!

  12. I hope so, puzzles me how we can push for £25M for Andy Carroll and yet some players we let go with a whimper.

Who did you have in mind that we've let go on a whimper? Cabaye went on strike, Ba had a release clause and the rest have been fringe players.

    Cabaye - 18m

    Perch - 700k

    Ba - 7.5m

    Forester - 2m

    Best - 3m

    Nolan - 3.5m

    Carroll - 35m

We dont keep player who want to leave, which I guess is how we get people to sign up to 6 year contracts.

Debuchy will leave, but he wont be missed. Santon can play right back and haidara left.
  13. I've seen these symtoms loads in Chrome. If you are using Chroime, it's the Google plugins they rewrote for shockwave etc... there poor coding gets stuck in a loop. try a different browser. If the load fine in IE, uninstall/reinstall Chrome.

DNS is cached, so it wont be that. That'd result in all or nothing.

  14. I missed Wolfy's crazy threads first time round. Hope I'm not too late to ask the oddball some questions... :woot:

Does it seem logical to anyone that we walk about on a sphere with oceans all around us, rotating at around 1038 mph at the equator and spinning around a centralised 1000,000+ km diameter sun?

I know what we were all schooled with: but does it really seem logical when you actually think about it?

To understand what I'm saying; think about yourself stood on the ground. You are moving at over 1000 mph, yet you do not feel any movement. Your body's senses do not detect any imbalance, yet all you see is a sun, stars, moon, etc moving slowly over the sky.

I wont cover the "theory of relativity" and how it covers the effects of movement being relative to an object. As that science mumbo jumbo has no place on a foot ball forum.

    Instead I will opt for questions;

    1. Do you feel any movement when you are on a plain flying through the air at 600mph?
    2. Why you can buy a telescope at Argos to see the moon (assuming you believe the moon is real) 250,000 miles away. Yet if you stand on the coast of Ireland you cant see the empire state building a mere 3,000 miles away?

  15. pardew will love him because he's a worker, he's not really strong, he's not fast at all, he's not got the passing ability or the technique, but he's got an engine and will do a bit of organising.

He's basically the jonas engine of the #10 shirt.

Pretty much describes his brother. Kuyt was a bit like that, so it may not be the worst signing we've made.

Anything is an improvement in shola.

Grenier is the one I'm hoping for.
