Players like Álvarez are the exception. Regardless of the loan back option I’ve no idea how you got him so cheap.

Edit: Obviously we can add the likes of Trippier and Bruno to the list of exceptions so there are deals to be done but our recruitment is going to be much more targeted now than in previous windows.

Argentina is a market so absolutely devalued and corrupt and in need of money, that its stars or young players leave for a laughing price (especially if we compare it with Brazil and Endrick, Viniciuys, Rodrygo, Reinier, Gabigol, etc).

The most expensive sale in its history was Lautaro (€25M) and previously, Aguero (23M)

The list... Alvarez (21M), Bentancur (21M), Alario (19M)... Almirón himself went 7-8M to the MLS when he was a very prominent player.

I think, without a doubt, that it is a very good market to sign future promises. Some could be added to the team, but others can go on loan to other clubs and see how they progress.

If they go wrong, the transfer price hasn't been too bad, so there's no problem, but if it goes well you can have a new Enzo Fernández, MaCallister or Julián Álvarez.

There are really interesting players like Nico de la Cruz, Alan Valera, Facundo Bounanotte, Facundo Farias (my favourite, but he has a serious knee injury), Perrone, Ezequiel Barco or Valentín Gómez.

Hardly any of these will cost you more than €10-12M.

  2. The team works. And what works, is not touched.

I'm not saying we have to settle for what we have, but we shouldn't waste our money. And that is something that we are doing very well at the moment.

We have a very decent XI and yet we also have 'important' players who can do well off the bench. There are Saint Maximin and Isak who have not been important yet. There's Murphy and Fraser who have been good boosters and there's Targett.

Personally, I think we have to change something in the midfield. I don't trust Longstaff at all. And Shelvey has no match rhythm. As something happens to Bruno...

What I want to say is that I don't think it makes sense to sign Maddison now, for example.

Instead, I wish we could have a go at Tielemans. He is a player whose contract expires in June, so he could get out very cheap in January. Or, if we're happy with what we've got... try to negotiate for him free for June.

I think that if we continue along this line, there will be many top players who want to join the team. As we get to February-March being in the Big Four, we will be able to propose a very good transfer market because the players will see that this is a reality and a solid project.

Hey, @Diego21 what's the scoop on this Fresneda lad?

I really don't know him. I have never seen him play. I only know that he is the player of Spain Sub19.

He just turned 18 and has only played 5 or 6 games as a professional.

In Spain it is said that Valladolid has received interest from 8 teams, including Newcastle, Wolves and Juventus. And it is not clear if he also wants Barcelona, because there were already rumors in the summer.

Let's see. I am a member of Atleti and I want Joao to leave the team as soon as possible.

And I know that, perhaps, in another team and in another context, he can become a truly differential player.

But it's been 4 years now and he hasn't been at Atleti, so I'm tired of him.

And I hope Newcastle doesn't buy it.

  5. Joao Felix is supposed to be the third best talent of the Haaland and Mbappe generation. And he's supposed to be as good as they are by now. But not.

Joao Felix has been at Atleti for 4 years and is still at the same point he was at in 2019. It is very irregular.

You see him play and you know that he is a spectacular player. He has amazing technique... But that only happens very rarely.

His 'natural' position is as Fish says. He plays as a left midfielder. The problem is that playing there, he has a lot of ball in midfield, he slows down the game a lot and they make a lot of fouls in midfield and he can't progress.

His best performance in his career has come from playing alongside another '9'. It was there that he exploded in Benfica scoring 17 goals and giving 11 assists in 29 games.

Last year, Simeone tested him by playing as a center forward and scored 7 goals and gave 3 assists in 11 games.

But Joao has two problems. One is that he gets injured a lot. The other, that he is quite childish. He is absurdly angry, sometimes he seems uncommitted and at Atleti he has had some problems in the dressing room.

There is no doubt that if you manage to make the most of Joao Felix (and he wants to) we are talking about a world class player.

But I have many doubts that he ends up really exploding at that level because after 4 years I have not seen any improvement.

 One of the worst shirts we've had, the player wasn't much better. Any Spanish wonder signing we make in the future has to incorporate the words 'Albert Luque wrapped it up' into a song about them or the chanters are shit and can only copy other club's songs.

It's one of my favorite club shirts... Perhaps, surely, because it was the first I have.

Bad news though...  I wore Michael Owen on the back.

I know there are no good memories of Albert Luque around here. And that it was still in the days when the Spanish were not welcome in Newcastle.

But in his favor I have to say that he was an excellent player and since his time at Newcastle he had a lot of bad luck and practically ended his career.

He had been at a brutal level for 4-5 years in Spain in a team like Mallorca and was one of the best players in a team like Deportivo de la Coruña that won a Spanish Cup against Real Madrid (in the Real Madrid Stadium the day 100 Real Madrid Anniversary), reached the Champions League semifinals and It was two years in a row 3rd in the Spanish League.

He was unlucky, because as soon as he arrived he injured his knee for three months... And when he recovered, he seriously injured his ankle. And that problem always dragged him.

Luque had never had injuries in his career.

I think he had personal problems with Glen Roedder and that's why he also didn't play anymore.

But he really was a very good player even though he couldn't show it here.

  8. I think it's simple. Mitro is a great striker. But here he never entered into Rafa's plans.

Rafa has always played with other types of strikers.

It was useless to have a player like him in a system that didn't fit.

Throughout his career, Mitro has shown that he is a player who, if you bring balls into the area, he scores goals.

And honestly, I think it's a shame, because the guy was madly in love with the club.

PS: I also think that he penalized him a lot when it came to having more opportunities for that Bad Boy fame that he earned here in the first weeks.

  9. Last week I would have called you crazy if you told me that we are going to win the League. And a clear objective would be to make Top6 or even Top4.

Today, I'm telling you that you're going to break in the Top3 two points behind Manchester City and that nothing stops me from dreaming and that I'm in 'we're going to win the Premier League' mode.

Bruno looks like the best player in the world.
    Pope is a wall.
Trippier is playing the best football of his career.
    Joelinton is everyone's best friend.
Miguel Almirón is Maradona born in Paraguay.
    Willock stings like a bee.
Botman is going to be the best defender in the Premier League for years to come.

And we haven't seen the best version of Saint Maximin and Isak yet.

We've beaten F* Chelsea with Wood up front.
