That's something that happens in football. Vassell was largely a squad player. At the time Vassell was an exciting player and if an England manager had ignored him then they would have been missing out. His contributions for England are often derided, perhaps because of his penalty miss.

I liked Sven as England manager. I thought he did reasonably well in his time. The fact that our players shit their breaches when they get to International tournaments goes deeper than the manager in charge. To say he hasn't spent much money at Leicester is a bit misleading. He's spent an awful lot of money in fact, bringing in players such as Curtis Davies, Yakubu and Vassell who are all on large wages.
