  1. reminds me of the year when we were rumoured to sign that portugese lad at full back all summer before it fell through; shepherd issues the classic "there are other cars in the lot" ... and we end up with stephen fucking carr.

Miguel (played RB at Euro 2004 before he got injured).

  2. Pardew seems to be a very good man manager, Can't remember us having any player problems recently?? I think if Andy came he would need to realise that he isn't the big man anymore and that the team is not centred around him.

I think he is a good man manager but that has undoubtedly been helped by us not signing players with shite attitudes on the whole. I know you could point to Ben Arfa as a possible in that regard but at least he's young with something to prove not some washed-up has-been on a final pay day. Carroll has a lot to prove too like.

  3. he had half a season where he played his best football for us. it was the form - and the 11 goals in 19 games - that carroll showed under pardew's management that led to the move to liverpool

And Hughton (mainly Hughton now I think about it). Didn't Carroll play for Pardew against Liverpool and score (Pardew's 1st game?) then get injured and never play for us again? Bit sketchy on the details but it was something like that I think.

  4. what have you heard? he looks a fairly uncomplicated geordie charver - likes a drink and can get himself into the odd scrape. is it something worse than that?

my old man saw him out and about in a pub and said he can see why he gets into bother. this massive lad with an italian footballer faircut and an effeminate voice. he said you'd think he was gay if you didn't know he wasn't.

That's it in the main, plus he likes hitting lasses and is thick as fuck. That's problematic if he doesn't rein it in. He's not the sort of player who can stroll about like Ibrahimovic. His game is all about his physicality which demands that he's fit enough to be getting into the faces of the opposition centre-backs. He's mobile for his size too. You take away that edge and the level of fitness required and, to me, he's just A. N. Other big lump tbh. Basically I'd like him here but he comes with a risk because of his suspect attitude / lifestyle. I agree we should ideally look at loan with an agreed fee at the end of it (should we decide we want him). Liverpool are saying no but I'd basically tap Carroll up (as everyone does) and say we want him but it'll have to be a loan. If he refuses to go elsewhere that leaves us in a strong position come the end of August. I think Liverpool are desperate to get rid.

  5. Is it? I bet you had to google it. Japanese name like SHARP. I don't even know if they still exist. Even Virgin Money is a good sponsor for us, but they're not world wide. I actually think Sunderland having "Invest in Africa" on their shirts will do them no harm at all, better than Tombola, Boyle Sports or Vaux Samson anyway.

I googled it to check but I assumed it was Japanese (which is why I checked). What British companies were making tellys, video recorders etc. in the 80's like?

  6. Didnt Inter win the league the other year with virtually no Italian players?

nowt much has changed, less than a quarter of last seasons squad are Italian...

    http://en.wikipedia....e_Milano_season

They do however have this in their favour:

The club is commonly known as Inter Milan outside of Italy.[2][3] They have spent their entire history in the top flight First Division (known as Serie A since 1929). Internazionale have won 30 domestic trophies, including the league eighteen times, the Coppa Italia seven and the Supercoppa Italiana five. From 2006 to 2010 the club won five successive league titles, equalling the all-time record.[4]

So, Dr Gloom mentioned that theyre "arguably a bigger club" over the page...I think we can safely say they fuckin dwarf us

But, he'll be torn I think. A changing room full of his countrymen would no doubt suit him, but it is Inter Milan who are also calling. Tough one.

I think the won the CL with no Italian players in their starting line-up (and won the treble that year with virtually no Italian players involved).

  7. Pardew's managed both of them reasonably well for half a season each. He hasn't really proved he can successfully manage either long-term. That's not being churlish, I just mention it because everything I've heard about Carroll suggests he's an absolute knacker. I'm still excited at the prospect of this deal mind.

  8. It'll be interesting what effect, if any, FFP has. But aye, the gates at the very top of the league are shut to us and all but 3 clubs. It'll be very hard even to equal 5th. Most fans are realistic not brainwashed.

I was reading that (ironically, Mr Platini) it'll affect Spanish and Italian clubs more than English ones as the EPL still generates a lot more income than La Liga or Serie A. I know you're on about the likes of Chelsea and Man City though. I think Liverpool will struggle to compete too as they already are and they've been bankrolled for years.

  9. Just booked 4 nights in Krakow in December. Anyone been? Fancied seeing a Wislaw Krakow game but looks like they aren't playing midweek whilst I'm there.

In laws have been a few times and they love it. The Xmas markets and the general atmosphere at that time of year is meant to be really nice.
