  1. Man on the news "the government have done all these things without consulting the yoof, all these cuts"

Apart from holding a general election, of course. Wonder how many voted?

None of them could spell 'purpose'

They're giving civil disobedience a bad name these puffer-jacketed cunts .

    Burn London .

It's funny, I've been on a course today and could just walk home through Regent's Park, tourists enjoying a wander, joggers going round (including some phenomenal rear ends), boatloads of games of cricket, football and rugby- all completely oblivious to the goings on elsewhere.

  2. And to be honest, this is why this is likely going to be my last year on my ST. With train travel, it costs me well over a grand a year and if Ashley is going to decide to do everything on the cheap, so will I and just cherry pick a few games. Might even get the Megabus and sit and the back where it reeks of piss, just to get the full experience.

  3. Ashley knows he fucked up and it has cost him a lot of money- so he has decided the best way to recoup his losses is for Newcastle supporters to pay him back.

Think about the 10 year plan and the February renewal cut-off date.

The most profitable way to run this club is to just about survive year on year with a relatively low wage bill but still with good gates. Ashley believes, and with some evidence, that we will turn up to watch any bunch of mugs in a black and white shirt. If pushing for Europe earns an extra £20m but costs you £30m, then why even attempt it? Just being in the PL gravy boat is enough to keep a skeleton operation running and throwing off £20m a year.

  4. Well done to Robert weatherall at the evening chronicle, about the only one to write about the fans being unhappy about the Barton situation. Replace Lee Ryder with this guy!

Never heard him writing stuff before. Pseudonym perhaps?

  5. That was a good day for you lot .....phoneboxes all over the bigmarket breatherd a sigh of relief !!!! although a couple of weeks later against bolton i heard they wernt so lucky :o

15 years ago, someone smashed a phone box. You forget to mention the glass on the old undergrounds bogs got a hammering too.

  6. I can see why everyone has commented on this so far, but can also see a different side. By paying for either the membership, and when you pay for season ticket, they know they have your actual address. Whereas it would be fairly easy to call and give a different address if you were picking the tickets up or sent to another.

At least now, trouble can be traced to the door of the person. It is a annoying and another reason to get people to spend more.

That could be done for a nominal fee as a registration scheme. This is outright opportunism.

  7. It's less that we're not spending the cash, but more the way we have chipped away expectations through the manager's soundbites on a week-by-week basis. If they'd have just come out and said "We've got £35m and we're not spending it on new players" there would have been uproar- but here we are in more or less that position, yet there is a resignation about the whole episode.

No wonder the club treat us like mugs when so many are happy to accept the spoon-fed bollocks about financial prudence (more prevalent on N-O than on here). It really is a worrying sign of things to come.

  8. He has absolutely no anticipation at all

This is what really makes a quality striker stand out for me and where Best really falls short.

And the argument that he is better than our other strikers just highlights why we so badly need to sign another one.

  9. He looked good in most of the games he started last season tbh

I disagree. He looked OK because he put in a bit of application and we're comparing him with the invisible man Lovenkrands and the immobile Shola. His first touch is heave and his running off the ball is all over the place.

You could equally mention the Fulham game when he was woeful. Yes he had a few good games, but has done nothing to suggest he's going to consistently cut it in the PL.

We could probably get a few quid for him but not for other two aforementioned and that is why I suspect we'll end up looking to cash in on Best before the end of the window.

  10. I don't think his up to the job at this level. He seems to have won a lot of admirers because he works hard and scored three against an errant WHU backline but that's simply not enough.

  11. The French banks are knee deep in CDS exposure to southern med countries- hence all the fuss about the Greek restructuring not being classed as a 'default event' by the ratings agencies.

I agree though, this whole thing is fast becoming a nonsense. The problem is that we have built up about 400 years of wealth based on the concept of money creation, relying on a continued game off pass the parcel. Everyone is busy passing the parcel, but when the music stops, only one kid is left holding it.

  12. I'd just abolish ratings agencies and force banks to lend to governments at 2% in return for not nationalising their assets.

How would that work for global institutions- which governments would they be forced to lend to?

Maybe the EU will speed up the process of bolstering bank capital by insisting they hold more highly-rated securities. How about eurozone bonds? That would be convenient.

  13. I think Bothroyd would be way too expensive for us. He's available on a free transfer, so the fees would be too much for us to afford at this time.

 We'd have to pay his agent £8m and then there are the wages.....
