Thing is, the shape of your eyes change over time. You may find for instance that your vision improves with age. However, if you get it "fixed" to the optimum, then it might go downhill with no way back. I don't know too much about it but I have heard these are real risks. It's well known that you will still require reading glasses in later life as your eyes change, and they tell you this before you go through with the procedure.

Metric > Imperial tbh. [/irrelevant]

Aye, I was looking at getting some new glasses soon and when I added up the cost of some decent frames with thin lenses I thought i'd fuck it and just get them fixed properly. Going to wait until the winter I think, want to avoid the pollen as much as possible.

You now know the main source of my interest in laser eye surgery I revealed over on N-O.
-
Of course, on the days when I wear my contact lenses I don't need to even do that.

Like I say, we get a cracking deal on the opt-out cash anyway from what i've heard from others, so it's no big deal - to have a new car that regularly, or to take the depreciation.
-
Thing is i'm in a raised cabin (based on site) so I can hear the floorboards creaking if someone is coming into my office. Quickly stick my glasses on and Robert's your Dad's brother.

I don't mind it really, it ensures everyone has a nice newish car. Oh, and we can't have 2 seaters (in case we need to drive clients anywhere) either. My mate works for a rival company of mine and they're not meant to have cars without four doors for the same reason. I thought these things were commonplace tbh.
-
I occasionally* have a kip at work. In my office. *Not necessarily accurate.

Company policy dictates that any car we drive (via the opt-out option) must be under four years old, yes. This coincides with the length of the company car leases. It's an image thing.
-
The other thing I have to worry about is that my company won't let anyone drive a car that's over four years old, so that kind of rules out buying a 3 year old motor - there's no way i'd change car every year...
-
We only have the choice of Vauxhalls, and at my level that would be an LX Astra or something. Not only that, but i'd probably be given a pool car that is sat not being used - that would mean waiting until the lease ran out before I got my own choice on colour etc. Also there's the tax burden you mention. Fuck all that shit, i'll have the money instead thanks!
-
RE company cars, it depends on the cash option. At my place it's far better than my mates at Uni were being offered at their companies. There's just no way I would take a company Vauxhall when I can get something else myself.
-
I got my current car brand new and will get my next one brand new also. Couldn't give a shit about the depreciation, I accept how much i'm paying for it so what does it matter? Can't beat 11 miles on the clock when you pick it up tbh.

I went to LCoB and LMU When did you go? I finished LMU last year! I am a Structural CAD Technician at a Multi Discipline Consultant Engineers Finished year before last.

As I live within two minutes of the M62, rugby league was all we ever did outside. All the lads in my year played too, and the teacher was a rugby fan. I can remember about three times we played football.

Did anyone watch Monkey Dust? There was a cracking spoof of Nigella Lawson.

I did day-release at Leeds College of Building for two years to get my ONC, then a further three years at Leeds Met Uni to get my HND, both in building studies. My employer paid for the lot. I was allowed to continue on and do a degree in QSing but I couldn't be arsed, for a number of reasons. The QSing I do is different to that which they teach you academically though, so i'm not missing much, particularly as I see my long-term future here.

Nah, i've decided to ramp up my Special K consumption instead.

Does work experience count? I had to sit next to a fat bloke and was allowed to play about on the CAD while he did some proper work. It was fun for the first 10mins. I did that for a fucking week.

That one from Ready Steady Cook who looks like Pierce Brosnan. He's sooo dreamy!
