A lot of Ukraine's military is on the Eastern border though and Putin has just gone round it, much like Hitler did going through Benelux during the Blitzkrieg. If Kiev goes, then surely the head of government also goes? Is Zelenskyy still in the city?

He said he will stay in the capital and as I said this before but unfortunately he is a martyr as some call it. He will be killed

The irony is that one of Putin’s stated reasons for invading was not wanting a NATO country on his border- if he succeeds in occupying Ukraine he’ll have increased the number of NATO countries on Russia’s borders, pissing all of them off in the process.

He has a buffer zone in his mind. Nobody knows what that is even his own govt dont know.

I know I’m neither a military nor political expert, but I’m struggling to see how we in the West can just sit on our hands and watch this happen without helping?
It seems almost inevitable to me that we will have to send military help, so why wait until the Russians are established in the country- do it now.
It’s not like this has come out of the blue.

( I know there are many reasons why we aren’t, but it just seems like we’re letting Putin piss all over everything here, when we could actually stop this fairly quickly and decisively).

At this point NATO need to prepare for any incursion against their borders.

Too late for should have and could have arguments.

    Neo-Nazism

Emblem featuring a Wolfsangel and Black Sun, two symbols associated with Nazism

The Azov Battalion has been described as a far-right militia[33] with connections to neo-Nazism, with members wearing neo-Nazi and SS symbols and regalia and expressing neo-Nazi views.[76][77] The group's insignia features the Wolfsangel[52][78][77][79][80] and the Black Sun,[78][81][82] two neo-Nazi symbols.

Azov soldiers have been observed wearing Nazi-associated symbols on their uniforms.[83] In 2014, the German ZDF television network showed images of Azov fighters wearing helmets with swastika symbols and "the SS runes of Hitler's infamous black-uniformed elite corps".[84] In

Your point is made but Russia also have a large element of neo-nazism.

Not that this is a point regarding the Ukraine offensive that Russia initiated but they are the most racist country in Europe. This point is an aside and go look how black players have been treated playing in their league

Kremlin apparently acknowledging that Ukraine has expressed willingness to sign a neutrality pledge with guarantees that it will never join NATO. Also expects relationships with Western countries to return to normal after this...

Putin looking for a way out?

This is fantasy stuff. This is not how things end. Notzafter what has happened.

Aye that neo-nazi jewish bloke, that'll be right.

The only neo-Nazi's are Putin's crew and those far right cunts they are financing all over the planet.

Exactly. Blatant lies. The amount of times Lavrov quoted Putin in that Press Conference was defining.

I honestly thought Russia were going to take half of Ukraine only before this war started.

I really don't know how this finalises.

  7. Russian foreign minister on the telly now.

Basically saying they are 'ridding Ukraine  neo-nazism' and topple the govt and allow the people return back home for a 'democratic election so that they can decide their own fate when  a pro-Russian puppet govt will be elected

  8. Russia and China trying to redefine democracy in their new world. It basically means they will water it down so that they can do as they please, and they will face no consequences because their 'democracy' will accomidate it. Russia does not need SWIFT. They will be bankrolled by China moving forward. These are indeed worrisome, uncertain and troubled times.

  9. The Russians have cut the country in half, from the north and the south and have prevented the baulk of the Ukranian army who are in the east from going anywhere. Doesn't look good and we will probably see  huge casualties in the coming days

russia is run by an unstable madman who is intent on restoring his country to pre-soviet imperial greatness. he's a nutter. there is no rational thought behind it.

i'm personally looking forward to the stop the war demo in front of the russian embassy this morning. corbyn's peace and justice movement was as of monday still calling on the us and the uk to stop warmongering. you couldn't make it up.

Putin is not unstable. He knows exactly what he is doing and when to do it. Sociopath and psychopath perhaps but he is a master of chess games in a geopolitical world.

    what’s Australia doing about it?

can I ask why not? Johnson and Biden have been warning this was coming for weeks.

We have imposed sanctions and frozen assets of those close to Putin. But you must understand we are a tiny player in matters like this despite talking big. It won't affect Russia at all

  12. I thought it was odd Putin at the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics. But there he was supposedly supporting his nation who are not even allowed to have their proper name - the Russian Federation - competing in that name.

He met Xi. I am sure. And talked geo-politics and scenarios to what we have seen beginning with annexing Eastern Ukraine and now today with the full invasion.

Russia is inter-reliant with the West. If we were to stop buying their oil, gas and minerals right now then the Russian economy would collapse. Similarly if we were to do that then Europe would be completely fucked. We'd be in a situation where we were continuing to fund the very nation we were at war with.

Russia would just become even more closer to China. Its a lose/lose situation. Check mate Putin.

  14. I mentioned before these two autocrats are trying to change the status quo and begin a new order in the world.

America won't step in in Europe but they will confront China in the Asia Pacific. The Asia Pacific means much more economically. America cannot fight in both theatres so it is up to NATO minus the US to stand  up to Russia if they choose to invade NATO countries after the Ukraine.
