  1. I remember when the first rumblings were being made about them invading Iraq and in my naivety I thought 'surely not' since it was obvious then there was no link with 9/11 (which I think if you remember back was the initial 'reason' before the WMD bollocks). Little did I know Blair would fall over himself to help them and get us into it too.

The interesting thing in Bob Woodwards book about the 100 days after 9/11, is how immediate the drum started getting banged for going into Iraq. Within days of 9/11 with no links whatsoever provided, Cheyney and Rumsfeld were bringing it up as a strong recommendation in daily NSC meeting.

What's impressive is how Bush refused to take that advice...for a while...until the CIA told him it was a "slam dunk" that Iraq had WMD.

Many of Bush's foreign policy advisers- especially that toad Wolfowitz- had been banging on at him to settle things with Iraq since he arrived in 2000. Bit of an agenda there!

  2. I just don't get why people go to lengths to mourn the American deaths when worse stuff is happening in the world even now.

Because it wasn't just Americans that died.

Plus it was the biggest loss of life caused by a non-state actor in human history.

  3. The 'War on Terror' is a never ending war though, or it will only end when most of your civil liberties have been eroded and to act freely is almost impossible. Can anyone genuinely think of a solution?

Already in the wake of 7/7 people can't take photos in London without getting looked upon suspiciously, people can't protest within a good distance of downing street, so on and so forth.

Seems like you're trying to create an argument about nothing here. No-one has even commented on Iraq and Afghanistan apart from you.

I suppose the two are completely unrelated.

    My mistake.

The fact that 9/11 was tragic and unneccessary is totally unrelated to whatever followed. Even if Bush had sat at his desk and played Solitare for the following few years, it still would have been an abomination.

Exactly, and fuck them as far as I'm concerned anyway.

See that bloke that was just on there, "exterminate them, go to the Arab countries get rid of them all", I think it's a totally irrational thought many millions of people would've had that day.

Except he said 'all those Arab countries like Finland' :munch:

  6. I boycouuyt Bentley and Range Rover too, they're far too gaudy these days. Allowing Premiership footballers to drive them instantly pushes them into the "massively cockish" field of cars.

:) Don't you live in London? How the fuck could you afford a Bentley anyway?!

Plus he's only just got a new job as an admin assistant, lucky if he could afford a ten year old Ka, let alone s new RR or Bentley :(

 Easy to boycott something you wouldn't be able to buy anyway; think I'll boycott Gucci and Prada!

  7. Since my course is all but done (I don't need to set foot anywhere near Sunderland until my graduation in mid-July) i'm applying for jobs this week. Lots and lots of jobs actual, real, proper, 9-5, Monday to Friday jobs :(

The sad smilie isn't down to the fact i'm gutted to be leaving my cushy life as a scratter student, if anything i'm looking forward to getting out into the big, wide world, but more to do with the fact that the vocation i've chose to study has fuck all in the way of jobs going at the moment. I've cast my net a little wider and now i'm looking away from journalism towards PR.

Any suggestions for what to include in a CV? I'm pretty happy with mine but it can always do with fine tuning so if anyone has any ways to make me look like a bloody God feel free to tell me

PR companies generally want some journo experience mate- it's a Catch 22. It's a bit of a nightmare of an industry at the moment (more so than usual!)- you considered freelancing or going for any graduate programmes- I know Trinity Mirror and the Ronny Gill both do very well regarded ones. This is why I didn't do a journalism undergrad- in case the industry went tits up in the meantime!!

  8. Poboy?

Poboy was the 'munch munch' bloke.

Fucking hell Dan, do you only ever post in a thread where the admin style at N-O is discussed?

I swear you must have a specific search filter setup! :D

I haven't been on the admin there for three years so ner. :icon_lol:

I lurk quite a lot actually, I usually visit once a day, you should be encouraging me to post more Craig judging by the standard of Fop's banter. :)

  9. It would slow the game down though tbf if it was extended to penalty decisions. I'd probably only have it for occasions like Saturday which wouldn't impact on many games at all.

Would it really slow down the game though alex? I've seen ref's take ages to deliberate on the truly contentious decisions, and if there were a piece of equipment that he could have the 4th official look at and get back to him then surely it'd speed things up. The ref already makes decisions under advisement from the linesmen any way. I can't see this slowing it down at all.

but I defend your right to talk shit

You don't watch rugby league then!!

  10. Goodwin is an odious cunt and I can't help but think this is deserved.

Hmm, aren't you opposed to the death penalty? An eye for an eye and all that.

How is my opposition to the death penalty relevant? This bloke is getting £700,000 a year for doing a shite job and some people who have every right to be fucked off at the fact he's refusing to give even a small sum of that money back have put through his windows. They're not really on the same level.

You're condoning vigilantism and thoughtless retribution as opposed to considered punishment and action. That's why it's revelant.

  11. Did anyone watch the BBC tonight ;) they're so fuckin biased. I know the jews are the main cunts in this thing but their reporter said something like "So here we are on the fifth day of this battle 690 Palestinians have been murdered and 10 Israeli's have died." Oh dear. BBC pride themselves on being neutral too.

It's the facts though. What do you want them to say? You have to keep people updated about casualty figures, if that portrays Israel in a bad light its their own fault.
