1. The man is a fucking legend.

Incidentally have you got the Tom Tom club album?? Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth's Head off-shoot band?

    Its a must.

Genius of Love didn't really do it for me, so I skipped the album.

Its a great club track to be fair and wordyrappinghood is a quality track. Give it another listen

  2. His finishing has improved too - a couple of seasons ago his body shape would have been all wrong to take the chance he took against Wigan for instance.

I think thats the most interesting part of the goal. The confidence and athleticism at once suggested to me a player on the rise and on top of his game. I think he will get better if he stays fit. He needs to keep improving but am not unhappy at him being here anymore.

  3. Talking Heads have completely passed me by tbh.  I've always had them down as a dull 80s band.  Or a meringue?

    182446

You should have a listen to "stop making sense" - its the most accessible.

I just dont get the meringue reference like.

  4. My favourite bit of that story was the tacked on bit at the end:

Manchester United striker Alan Smith returned to the public arena in a friendly at Preston last night exactly 184 days since suffering his horrific double leg break in the FA Cup.

    182440

The mad part is that if he had come back a day later it would have been exactly 185 days since the leg break.

Martins deal will be tied up in 48 hours according to Independent.

  5. I know fuck all about cricket so two questions.

    1. Why use a 50 year old fucking ball?

    2. Why do they have an English umpire when England are playing? Surely they could find a neutral one.

    182377

Good questions and nice sig btw.

  6. This is a tough one for me. I got into them through watching the Jonathan Demme film on BBC2's Arena programme when i was about 10 years old. I videoed it on a Betamax which i then kept for years just to watch the film over and over. I played it so much that to this day my mum can sing along to most of the tracks.

I got a hold of Speaking In Tongues on vinyl recently and although the classics off Stop Making Sense dont sound as good (as noted on the sleeves of that album), i think its their best album, although as a listening experience you could argue Stop making sense is the best as the sound is so 'house music' imo. One or 2 are better in their original form though, classic example being Swamp. Swamp is the track playing in the party in Risky Business with Tom Cruise. Facto.

The american public agreed as it was their first million selling album but i agree that 77 and the name of the band are great albums too.

  7. I want to make a poll to see the general reaction to this (cos i'm fun like that), but I fear i won't be able to think of witty enough options and it'll die on it's arse.

I thought it was about time i came over for a bit. The craic can be much funnier here. Its working again and i'm still here so that says something. Plus i think i managed to pick up some tickets for the west ham game. What with my contributions to this thread its been a decent knock as they say in cricket.

YOU'RE MY HERO THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS ENTIRE THREAD BRILLIANT.

    182178

I just said it was a decent knock, made no claims of brilliance. No need to slap a load of make up on yerself and dress up like a woman over it.

    182179

Not on a weekday, unless you're paying.

25 posts into my toontastic life and have already been propositioned by a tranny whore. Gemmill did promise fun like.

  11. This strand has become like chinese whispers!  Where did Sultans and Shiek's come from, seriously???

Belgravia company is a bunch of southerners from Jersey that are your standard capitalist investors... not very middle eastern.

    182166

They represent and handle investments for "mega-rich" clients as well as their own core portfolio, the Sheik being one such client

    182170

Aye and one of the point of hedge funds is that there is no legal responsibility to reveal the private investors behind the fund. Unlike other forms of investment pool.

  12. Looking over everyything haven't we just made up the interest of this Sheik. From what i can see it it just an investment group.

    182136

The FT seems pretty certain he's got a hand in it. Would make sense since we did have a dealing with a Sheik in the past when Keegan was here.

    182139

    Sultan of BroonAle tbh.

    182142

Change Local Hero to Sultans of Swing for the pre-match....

    182146

Commission a new version - Sultans of Bling - and you've got a winner.

    182149

The video to that has enormous possibilities. From shepherd in head gear doing a fat mans jig to the first team doing 'walk like an egyptian'-style robot dances.

Great idea Gemmill, could bring in a few quid if it got to no. 1.
