Dennis Wise quits Leeds to sign up for Newcastle revolution

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2248462,00.html Keegan nonplussed as Wise joins Magpies Louise Taylor Tuesday January 29, 2008 The Guardian Dennis Wise will oversee transfers, youth development and scouting in his new position at Newcastle. Photograph: Jamie McDonald/Getty The strength of Kevin Keegan's relationship with Newcastle United's board faces its first potential test today when Dennis Wise's appointment as a "super executive" at the club will be confirmed. Wise last night exchanged his tracksuit and life as manager of Leeds United for a suit and a new role stalking the corridors of St James' Park. The former Chelsea and England midfielder resigned from his job at Elland Road yesterday and will be formally announced as a modern-day version of what once would have been termed Newcastle's "general manager" this morning. Although the 41-year-old will have no direct involvement with Keegan's first team squad - "that's Kevin's kingdom", a senior club source confirmed last night - Wise can expect to be in overall charge of transfers, youth development and scouting. It is understood he will earn £1.5m a year, tripling his salary, and Newcastle have promised to make two more appointments at executive level. -

Aye man. I love that to now have a true grasp of the game being a fan you need a degree in finance or something. I'll bet one thing the true figures are far worse. Man U are getting shafted as well. Thank the lord for MA. -
You think instantly getting a suitable creative midfielder should be possible yet pre-empt fans getting on KK's back in the next few months. Bi-polar tbh You only have to walk out the house and you're falling over creative midfielders....I am anyway.

Unless they have a holding company in the U.K. Liv won't be able to get a penny from them if it came to it. Liverpool wouldn't see a penny of what? They're only liable for £105m, anything after that is the responsibility of the yanks and I'm pretty sure the banks would be interested in chasing them up for that. Kop holdings is servicing the £245m ie The football club. (Article above). Yeah, they're servicing i.e. paying the debt, but they're not liable for all of it. The total debt package is around £350m but yes Kop H are servicing £245m of it. Still a fuck load of debt for a football business. -

The quickest and easiest way of building us as a brand across Europe would have been to hire a crack European manager who would attract by reputation alone top Euro based players. Notwithstanding his backroom of scouts etc... However I will say these baby steps are in the right direction and I am fairly positive about it. -

Seems to have it in his blood. We've hired a scout. Great. Why all the hoopla? Most top clubs have a dozen of these little cunts. The hoopla seems to be around Ernie Wise. You started the thread about the three of them. They need my special treatment is why. From what I know of DW is that he isn't the same persona wise as he was as a player and has been a good organiser at Leeds - he got Poyet in after all and deserves credit for that. The role he seems to be playing for us is a strange one ie in the back room..I'd have him as a coach, hands on. Was always a clever player and could pass on many good things. Vespa is a professional scout and social climber who seems to have hit the jackpot and embedded himself with MA. There is nothing however in his record as a scout to suggest he's discovered anyone for anyone ever - unless you count Tijani Babangida.. The fixer was the schemer behind getting Ramos to Spurs. Not sure apart from building flats what he can do. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about these people, but a multi-lingual scout good enough to get work at Real Madrid sounds like a step up from Chris McMenemy. I bet you like the thread title tho.

we won't mention the absolutely stupid post you made a week ago condemning scousers for slating their board for the crime of backing their manager As ironic and dumb as anything I've ever found anywhere What are you on about? Yes I had a go at them for protesting against a board that has financially backed their manager, what's wrong with that? What's the difference between me saying that and you defending Shepherd on the basis that he backed his managers? Tbf those two yanks are well on the way to fucking up the club. They'll be borrowing money soon to prop up the ailing ice hockey side and one guess where that is going to come from. Well, just for those who condemned the old board for the "debts" at the club, who read the article over the weekend that showed the top 4 clubs ie Chelsea, manure, Liverpool and Arsenal, currently have debts of approx 1.5 billion quid. Terrible job they are doing there, eh ? Nowt like a good cliche spun by people without a mind of their own.......... The Liv debt restructuring was touch and go by all accounts. £350m debt with payment terms of £20m or so a year. So all we need is for them to miss out on the CL this year and the fun will really begin. There's only £105m been placed onto the club though, the rest has been guaranteed by the owners. Tbh I'm undecided as to whether they're cunts or not, I'm not 100% sure what's normal business practice in these situations but I can't see them having done too much wrong. Think again..... Hicks admission casts doubt on Benitez plans By David Bond Last Updated: 1:58am GMT 29/01/2008 Have your say Read comments Liverpool's American owners have admitted for the first time that the football club will have to finance around £30 million in annual interest payments on new loans taken out to pay for their takeover of Anfield last February. Despite announcing last Friday that only £105m of a new £350m refinancing package was at "club-level", a spokesman for co-chairman Tom Hicks admitted last night that the club would also be responsible for servicing the remaining £245m, which had been placed on the balance sheet of Liverpool's parent company Kop Football (Holdings) Ltd. All smiles: but will Rafael Benitez be smiling in the summer? A spokesman from Financial Dynamics, the City PR company which represents Hicks, said: "The holding company debt is supported by the assets it acquired and should there ever be any shortfall in cash flow at the club or anywhere else in Kop in any given year, Kop's ownership, under the terms of the financing package, is prepared to fund whatever is required. "The debt is being handled exactly as it is handled at the vast majority of professional sports teams."..... Hopefully these creepy yanks will destroy the club. -

You sure of all that??? I could only see Wise as KK's replacement, if he (Keegan) was sacked or walked out, for a short term until a full time manager was appointed. Wise got Leeds relegated yes? Did fuck all at Swindon ??? Like the 'Morshley' thing btw He took Millwall into the UEFA cup. He wasn't at Swindon long but he had an excellent start, and Swindon desperately tried to hold onto him. He took Leeds down after taking them over mid-season in the shit, and getting a 10 point deduction. The UEFA cup achievement was because of losing finalists in the FA cup - something quite achievable if the run to the final is an easy one. He still took Leeds down. Poyet made the differance at Leeds. Wise is only coming cause he's friends with Ventner or whatever his name is, who drinks with Mo da rock who bought a car off Ashley the brick. How do you know this? Or are we just going on hearsay? Don't get uppity with me fishface. I'll have you know I cruise the surface of magnificence. Look: POYET ie NOT WISE is the brains. The scientists on telly who can see if the wash is whiter told me. -
'A-Levels' from Maccy D's football academy, I believe

I'm not impressed by Dennis Wise. -
Yeah, I think so or 'Transfers (or the lack of them)'. You see all along they had a top scout and the fm database to hand but haven't spent. (Yes Nicos).

No good having a scout employed as a "technical director" if the players he recommends are shite. I also fail to see the merit in calling a youth policy/training facilities etc an "academy". Load of bollocks. I also don't care how short Wise is, or who he played for, if he does a good job for the club. I also don't give a flying fuck what his fancy title is, so long as he does the job that Keegan wants him to do. As for "planning", you would think the way people go on about this "planning" malarky, that nobody else has a "plan". Fact is, everybody has a "plan". The "plan" is to be successful. End of story and thats all there is to it, and we are competing against other clubs who have "plans", and over the last decade our "plan" has been more successful than most. If you accept results you will accept this, however if you prefer to make things up to justify some sort of "opinion" based on personalities, then I can't help you. That post is almost perfected another couple of years and you'll have it just right. -
