Aye, when we were old enough my dad went and bought a shit load of subbuteo and a huge piece of quality ply which he then carefully spent what seemed like two days glueing down. Our subbuteo pitch was like Wembley, and all the kids round ours wanted to come round and play it. Unfortunately, the old man took it very seriously and played 'winner stays on', skittling dozens of 7 year olds with no mercy and ott goal celebrations. I plan to do exactly the same myself one day. When he was in the middle of trouncing me, my old man always used to go on about how in his day the subbuteo players were made out of cardboard (not the bases obviously, the figure part). However, mine was made from cardboard boxes and didn't cost owt I spent what seemed like a fuckin' eternity drawing circles on the cardboard to represent the fans. Strange but true.
