He only made his debut on the 21 of January so it's little surprise really. ;)

:headphonedance: What you rolling your eyes for?

I'm not having a go. I think he's class. But the thread title is "Money" and in it you're having a pop that we haven't been able to pay enough to attract tier 1 players in ten years, when apart from Torres, Liverpool have hardly busted the bank on the finished article.

They have an excellent policy of recruiting good players and polishing them into excellent ones on the most part, a policy I'd love to see at Newcastle.

We've gone over £15M twice and Liverpool have only done it once. In fact their refusal to do so meant they lost out to Newcastle.

Our problem has recently been spotting potential, not excellence.

Keegan was always good at spotting talent though.

What is the Golden Gloves though?

Can't believe the cluelessness on here ...

(not aimed at you ... you appear to have some savvy on your side).

I've honestly never heard of that. Not being funny either but that doesn't make him 'tier 1' (although I concede I'm sketchy about what that is exactly) because it's 'only' clean sheets. It's a good achievement for a keeper though, definitely.

Must be prestigious like, if a Liverpool fan doesn't even know what it is :headphonedance:

I'm not the one who doesn't know what it is thought, am I?

I guess one's keeper has to win it to highlight it. ;)

Why didn't you just answer the question instead of looking it up then? ;)

Are you suggesting he's only a second rate keeper then?

Not at all actually. I just don't think the 'Golden Gloves' says much either way. You need to be a decent keeper playing behind a good defence to win it. Even then you could lose 6-0 and then draw 0-0 three times off the bounce and you'd be ahead of a keeper who conceded two and played class in the same period. It just smacks of a bit of a Mickey Mouse award. That's not sour grapes either, honestly. Like I say, he's a qulaity keeper. Given's been in the PFA team a couple of times (iirc) and that's a more significant individual achievement. Must make him tier 1 too :headphonedance:

Does it really matter? ... I wanted to back up what I had said. I know; strange behaviour on here.

Alonso?

Mascherano, Alonso, Renia, Agger, Babel, Kewell, Morientes, Anelka (albeit on loan).

That's the second time Agger is being brought up. First it was claimed he was a bargain, now he is tier one. Agger was an overpriced danish premiership player, who was a fringe national. Albeit a major talent, he still was only breaking into a wounded BIF side, in the danish premiership and a fringe national player. Agger was a gamble, and not a tier one player. The gamble has paid of, no doubt about it, but paying more than 6 million pound for a danish superliga player is lunacy in any capacity.

The boy has matured, and is playin VERY well. But he was not a bargain, nor a tier one player at the time of purchace
