It comes from the medieval practice of cutting 4 horizontal slots above and in to the spleen of patients suffering from excessive grumpiness to release vapours and daemons. The practice died out when the less invasive practice of pulling the vapours out of their arse took over, which is also where I found this complete fabrication.5 points

https://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/ipso-upholds-labour-activist-s-accuracy-complaint-against-jc-1.493698 The Jewish Chronicle forced to retract and apologise for 4 articles for lying about Corbyn, Labour and anti-semitism. I now consider this outlet to be trash and irrelevant in political discussions.3 points

Maybe that's true, but do we not desperately need someone to just stand up and tell the fucking truth...2 points

It's one of their favourite tropes "BLIARS ILL EAGLE WAR IN ERACK 😡" As you say though pointing this out to the hard of thinking doesn't go down too well. I think if Johnson gets his majority and Trump gets another term Iran will cop it and this country will loose another 500-1000 of our young people 😞2 points

It's a mixture of prolonged propaganda by a media very much in favour of the conservatives with an underlying hint of doing anything other than vote for 'Boris' and chums is not being patriotic to Britain. Also it questions their mental facilities and to admit that they've been stitched up by their failure to see through the Eton chancers is something they just aren't prepared to see.2 points

Thought we deserved a point but Man City were pretty fucking dreadful tbf. On just about any other day, they'd have tucked us away with the Jesus and Sterling chances in the second half. Still, you take your luck when it comes and we did. Shelvey had one of his rare games where he actually grafted but it just served to highlight how anonymous Hayden is nowadays; Sean Longstaff has to be in for Thursday even if I can understand not wanting to change the team. If Maximin can add some end product, he'll be away for about £50 million in the summer; for now, he's an amazing dribbler and puts entire teams on the back foot but I'm not sure he's made the right decision yet when he's had sight of the posts. As much as Fernandez and Clark have done well, I'd be throwing Schar and Lejeune straight back in when they're fit. With this system, the centre halves are touching the ball far more than the midfield so we might as well put the best two ball-playing defenders back in the team since I'm almost sure we'd see an actual improvement immediately. Also, this was probably the one game where i'd have kept Joelinton on since he was getting a bit of joy against Fernandinho so, of course, he got subbed off so Gayle could just run about for half an hour. What a waste of a sub at 1-12 points

tbf, these days, our "famous atmosphere" is usually found on the late games when everyone has been on the piss for 6 hours beforehand. Of course, being an early game and, not to mention, it being fucking freezing, it makes sense that Paperback Ryder was the only one fucking mortal drunk from the night before. Cockeyed Mala's 50th, what a do.2 points

So apparently all but 1 of the blokes who restrained him were on day release or out on licence and followed the terrorist from the ex-offenders conference this all started at. Hasn't stopped Boris politicising the whole thing and demanding the end of early release for prisoners. The Dad of one of the young lads killed has already called him out saying his son disagreed with long/draconian sentences and worked with prisoners himself. I'd like to see Andrew Neil give Boris enough rope to hang himself with over this one2 points

Why are people so afraid of confronting the consequences for their actions If you fuck up an entire region that is woefully underequipped to resist you conventionally, they're going to strike back however they can. I still think calling for scaling back interventionism is not a deal breaker for the Brexit crowd.1 point

The very few times I've been in the arena it's felt utterly soulless and that's going back to when it was fairly new. It almost mirrored the change from football grounds with their own identities to some of the identikit stadiums that sprang up around the same time as the arena.1 point

I think most of us on here have already lost faith. FTR my post was meant as a flippant remark rather than a personal attack, apologies if it came across as such. Your comment about the lady at work unfortunately is the reason that Labour are behind at the moment. The general public simply do not like Jeremy Corbyn and that stretches across the political spectrum. I posted a poll the other day showing that the public saw Johnson as much more honest than Corbyn and that is set against Johnson's track record of lying about everything his entire life. This is a man who won't even acknowledge how many children he has sired FFS. 'Corbyn doesn't like the Queen', well at least he didn't lie to her face in order to shut down parliament for five weeks. But again, that sort of thing doesn't cut through. Partly because of his treatment by the right wing media and partly because he isn't politically/electorally intelligent. I've said before that if you took the Labour manifesto and gave it to a leader who had a bit of charisma and nous then Labour would be romping home because their vision for the country is infinitely better than what the Tories are offering. For me the problem is that he is so adored by the momentum types that they cannot countenance that that feeling wouldn't be shared by the public at large. They've said 'wait until he announces his policies' and 'wait until you see him on the campaign trail' but none of that has borne any fruit. Of course it's too late to do anything about that. My fear is that the Labour membership will repeat the same mistake again and put someone like RLB or Piddock in charge when both of them have the same problem, they're just not likeable to the general public. If you look at the Labour shadow cabinet then I think the only candidates with the charisma needed are McDonnell and Starmer. Starmer of course probably isn't far enough to the left and neither of them are ideal but I can't see the grassroots opting for anyone from the back benches.1 point

Tried that Sam Fender album and after thinking Play God was interesting, his album is bland Springsteen-aping fodder without any of the cumulative experience, both musically and in life, that makes those classic Springsteen albums so powerful. The Killers did anthemic-Boss better on Sam's Town and The War on Drugs has been doing driving, introspective Springsteen better for years He's clearly got potential but it sounds like someone who is well wide of it atm. Check back in 5 years for his best when he has a stronger grasp of his craft and a better band with him. Long after the music mainstream has chewed him up and spat him out. Shame. Still, nice to see a local kid do well and fair play to him for selling out an arena tour off the back of 10 songs. Good luck filling an arena show with it, though.1 point
