watching that it's difficult to even believe that howe and bruce could be employed in the same job such is the difference in the levels of professionalism. I'd watch bruce's just out of some morbid, car crash curiosity to see how embarrassing they'd be and by god the fat cunt never failed to deliver. even when things went slightly tits up when ryder asked about squads and no fucker could remember who the substitutes were it was handled with aplomb, nice also that eddie was able to answer lee's fan related question regarding dubravka without appearing to want to lamp the chronicle's top man!5 points

Just in the car, coming back stuck BBC Newcastle on, presenter is talking to the Sunderland commentator who's slating the club, apparently Neil has already trained with the squad and travelled down to London but there's still no announcement that he's their new manager and said they didn't bother announcing Defoe until two o'clock in the morning. Presenter then says goodbye and tells the bloke to get himself off to Trafalgar Square as that's where Trevor the Sunderland fan has texted him from saying there's a few of them there already. Me in the car....... 'They're in Trafalgar Square?'3 points

No but I've been to Ukraine... The locals gave the lad in the pic that flag after the game v Kharkiv. They were fuckin lovely to us. They all said how corrupt their country was though. The club doesn't exist anymore, can only guess what happened to the gangster who owned it who propelled them into Europa League football...3 points

I don't think NATO should intercede directly in Ukraine mind, as it is not a member of NATO. I'm perfectly happy with the US and UK, France, to supply Ukraine with free weapons to repel Russia and drag them into a horrific guerrilla war, as well as fuck them economically with sanctions. The Russians are not our friends.3 points

I didn't find Havana busy really, just very poor with personal freedom clearly lacking. The state was set up such that taxi drivers who received tips from westerners earned more than hospital consultants. Having said that its a wonderful country to visit, I'd recomend it over Jamiaca, Barbados and many other destinations. Completely agree with your latter point, see also Scandinavia. It seems to me that to maximise happiness we need a blended political system, with some countries getting this more right than others. I'm sure its what people want here but its not possible with FPTP and constant gaslighting.3 points

Ok, this isn't UK politics so I think I'll dip back in I'm not so sure its as black and white as that - and having lived in countries that are allies of Russia and "being read the newspapers" - they have a lot of points that do show NATO (mainly US) aggression. The US in particular, have for nearly a decade , took the piss out of the New START by developing multiple launch missile systems that were branded "Defensive" , but , at the change or a warhead and software could very quickly become "aggressive weapons". Both sides have been doing it, I think the difference is that Russia has not been putting them within range of the US homeland, the same way the US has to Russia. Last time Russia did anything like that, the US reacted almost identically. Just trying to say, there's two sides to the coin, and honestly - looking at the USA vs Russia as to who is the potential warmonger, since WW2 - There's only 1 real answer there. link to the US version of the story I was read all those years ago . Missile Defense Issue Remains A Sticking Point in U.S.-Russia Arms-Reduction Pact | CNSNews Couple more links on the topic - but you can see why - when these "defensive missiles" are deployed on the edge, or beyond NATO - it's a bone of contention: Who, What, Why: What is a defensive weapon? - BBC News "We are all perfectly aware that the (US) missile defense system is defensive in name only", says Putin - Ground Report3 points

It's the little touches like this that will win the new owners support in spades. My empathetic side says the installation of the Shearer statue on the site of a former public toilet was an unfortunate coincidence. However my cyncical side says it was a deliberate act to disrespect a club legend who dared to question their approach. Next step for me is get the East Stand renamed 'THE KEEGAN STAND' and rid the leading edge of that god-awful NEWCASTLE UNITED logo up there in the Sports Direct typeface.3 points

The next bloke only needs to have a win ratio better than the last bloke who had the best win ratio of any manager there for about 100 years or whatever it was. Should be a doddle2 points

Following a brief peruse of the thread on their as-yet-unconfirmed new boss, I’m going to stick my neck out and say that unless this bloke turns them in to 1970s Brazil in under 3 weeks, his honeymoon period will be shorter than the wedding ceremony. Fan-fucking-tastic!2 points

So China hasn't invaded Taiwan for the past few decades because it was economically counterproductive, but continues to feel that flying 150 warplanes over Taiwan's airspace, building up military forces in the south of China, and repeating commitments to take it back by force if necessary, are part of this strategy. The logic presumably being that this is done for domestic consumption and that they'll never actually do anything about it. We'll see, but Taiwan itself thinks the invasion will come this decade, 2025 in fact based on the current escalation of Chinese forces. Of course, they're probably just saying whatever the US tells them to say, I assume. You apparently look at China and see just the economic powerhouse it is/can become. You are not seeing the disgraced former imperial power that it considers itself to be. Chinese rhetoric around nationalism is standing up people who insult China and cause it to lose face. Every time China is insulted anywhere in the world, her people are up in arms, boycotting anything to do with the country in question and harassing/attacking foreigners from that country. They view the restoration of China in the global scene as an inevitability, and they will take back everything that was 'historically' theirs along the way. As they did with Tibet. They will also eradicate the varying ethnicities and cultures they claim as part of this, as they've been doing for the past 30 years anyway. I dunno what China did to earn the 'benign' label from some people on the left, I really don't - if the same government was set up over here it would be a far right fascist hellscape. As for "the US as saviour". I stopped buying that in university ffs. Then I spent the next ten years talking like you. Then I spent 5 years watching what the US pulling back from the world stage under Trump, and concluded that we're in a 'better the devil you know' situation. I am under no illusions that the US is a violent and imperialist state. I am also under no illusions that Russia and China would be any better if they could get away with it. And more importantly, I fundamentally do not think that a world in which all 3 exist in this state at the same time, is better than the one we have.2 points

Tbf, it doesn't have to be in the press for the Tories to make hay of it. It doesn't even have to be true ffs, as we've seen in the past couple of weeks. And correcting the record after the fact is not something that really works any more, once the lie is out there on social media. All he was doing was trying to get out ahead of something, and with good reason. These people are fucking knackers anyway.2 points

You literally have Starmer's predecessor, who was largely hated by the public, coming out with anti-NATO and pro-Russian bollocks and you expect Starmer to stay quiet? Of course he has to reinforce the message that Labour is under new management. Removing the stench of Corbynism is the biggest obstacle to winning the next election.2 points
-
Stop the war's stance here is fucking ridiculous and hugely detrimental to the Labour party. Still giving the cunt Johnson ammo, Starmer has to make it clear as possible Labour do not endorse them, I'm sick of these idiots shooting the party in the knee caps. Nobody wants a war (in the west anyway), but if you're looking for blame look no further than Putin and his 100,000 troops massed on the borders of a sovereign country.2 points

I think it will likely take him a bit to get out of the habit, going from Joelinton to Bruno arriving in the box as we saw at everton, it'll take coaching and time to get "I have to do this on my own" out of his game somewhat. He always seems to trust getting the ball into the box to Wilson so I think he does recognise that there are players who are worth putting on the end of his passes.2 points

Ftr, he's got right on my tits at times this season, but he was fucking unreal for most of Tuesday night. And it's gonna be potentially brilliant to see him playing with better players around him, for a team that's on the up.2 points
