There definitely has to be a way to target Hamas officials rather than carpet bombing half the region.6 points

They're obsessed over there with expanding their stadium so it has more seats than SJP, a la Bob Murray. Has it ever even sold out once since their last derby against us? Anyway, it can't happen according to this ITK.3 points

@Alex @spongebob toonpants @Renton Thank you lads. It's been a really tough few days. It's time for me to duck out of this thread for a bit Peace3 points

The last couple of lines from Renton kind of nails it for me. What is happening (not just the most recent events) is down to so many external factors and not just the direct combatants at present. The unwavering support for Israel and ignoring the simmering resentment / plight of the Palestinians on one side. Then the stoking of the flames from Iran and others. Saudi Arabia making a play in their regional opposition to Iran. Egypt helping in the blockade of Gaza (again not just recently). All of it gradually making things worse until it blows up again. And it will happen in the future too if Israel just complete a successful military operation which is essentially a short term fix. It’s profoundly depressing and I don’t know how you put it right. But I don’t think just blaming one side solves anything. And for what little my opinion is worth, I think it’s grossly unfair to say Gloom has been anti-Palestinian in the views he’s expressed.3 points

Who do you imagine you are arguing against here. Dr G neither supports nor condones Netanyahu or the right wing loons ruling Isreal. Conflating Isrealis with their govt is exactly yhe same as blaming Palestinians for Hamas.3 points

There is no question that there is the right as well as the need for Israel to take action against Hamas. But there is the question what means are justified but especially how to stop the breading of new terrorists. As long as the conflict is going on there will be new terrorists and groups evolving.3 points

yes, they’re removing Hamas from power. Do you expect any other reaction to the atrocities Hamas committed on Israeli soil last Saturday? Put yourself in the shoes of Israelis for a moment. Containment is no longer an option. There will never be peace as long as terrorist group committed to wiping Israel off the map governs Gaza. How do you think Israel should fight Hamas? Is it wrong to retaliate? Hamas created this conflict. It has to be removed. When the war is done, I hope the Israeli people quickly remove Bibi and elect a government that will reignite the peace process. And that the Palestinian people are given the opportunity to elect new leadership in Gaza. I fear the opposite will be true: the invasion of Gaza and all the civilian casualties there will radicalise more more angry young men on one hand, and the terrorist attacks in Israel will garner more support for the nationalist far right. I hope I’m wrong, I really do.3 points

I don't think that's either true or fair. Gloom has condemned the leadership of both sides. and if I'm not mistaken, is in support of a fair and functional two state solution. Part of the problem here is the asymmetric nature of the power, which means there will always be far more Palestinians killed and displaced compared with Israel. My own feeling is Israel must show restraint and patience now, not fall into the trap Hamas has set to ignite the entire region. Public buildings and hospitals must be protected, power and water must be restored, the evacuation order should be rescinded. Because otherwise it is clear Israel is commuting a war crime and no way should we support that. They will and we will though.2 points

you'll have to explain how i have come across as anti-palestine. i am pro-israel and pro-palestine - that has been pretty consistent in all of my posts. i think the thing that separates me from the majority of progressives is i am not anti-israel.2 points

I can't help comparing Braverman and the tories stance on the boats to Netanyahu and the right wing Israel's (and for that matter Hamas"s as well) attitude to the conflict. If any of them could snap their fingers and solve the issues in an instant none of them would do it as their reason for being and route to power would not exist.2 points

We can start the world's shittest remote-working prog band. You do all the twiddly bits to the best of your ability, I'll just play chords.2 points

I'm getting a Strandberg. Left shoulder is fucked and I'm wanting to see if having a much lighter, better balanced guitar might help. The more I look at them, the more I like them. They're not remotely cool but neither is not being able to play cos your shoulder's cabbaged.2 points

Thanks I, @Blastronaut, really don't want to lose her but it's the contract we enter into with pets. She's 14 (Scottie's normally only live to 12 so we have been lucky) and has a tumour on her liver but as long she's not in pain and still able, she has the run of the house. And being Scottish, as you can imagine, she can be a right stubborn one. She's unfussed about music and is happy to listen to most things, although her brother who we lost two years ago, I swear he was an old jazz muso reincarnated and fucking hated anything with feedback, which is a lot of my taste.2 points

Ratclffe has bought 25% in and is now in charge of football operations. Hopefully he is as successful as he was with Team Sky cycling team1 point

If that is the logic, Hamas can say Israel could have saved hundreds of its own citizens by ending the brutal and illegal occupation? Do you begin to see the problem with this line of reasoning?1 point

Not happy about references to Joy Division or Happy Mondays, he'd be going spare at the current match thread titles then. I didn't mind old Steve when he wasn't on a rant, he posted some good stuff, unfortunately undone by all the other things. I just hope he's not wound up by the owners and just enjoying the best football we've seen since SBR.1 point

Sorry to hear about your furry pal Sammy. Hope you're making a point of playing her some decent tunes in her last few months man. Swear animals are tuned in way more to music than we ever give them credit for. Nice new axe too!1 point

Yeah it's nice, thanks Tom. That chair! That chair is great for listening to music but it's no longer my chair. This little gorgeous one has claimed it as her's, hence PL's shirt aka her mat, on the chair.1 point
