  8. Having sat with my dad at home while he died of bowel cancer, and we couldn’t get help from a macmillan nurse or a district nurse because they were too busy, giving him the legally allowed amount of morphine to help him sleep, having the medicine in the house that would have ended him but couldn’t legally give him it. This is a fucking triumph, fuck everyone who voted against it. Sit with someone who is in immense pain with no way out and all they have to come is a painful and undignified death then come and talk to me. Cunts.

  10. This "chook" shite was tiresome last year, it's embarrassing now... Any player who gets the club like Anthony does has a lot of credit in the bank. After all we want a team that tries and he embodies that

  12. Aye. Being a massive pedant, they went to war with us a decade ago, and we didn't realise or wake up in time. That was a colossal failure of normative politics in many countries. I wish they had declared it. Amazing how much damage this little insecure prick from St Petersburg has done to Western Europe, the US, and his own country in the time since.

  13. I go back to this notion that the West needs to wake up to the fact that Russia declared war on us 10 years ago - I still recall PL posting that Cadwalladr tweet that said as much and it was an eye opening moment for me. A lot of the problems we are now seeing can be traced back to Putin (though I suspect it's now taken on a life of its own, sadly).

  16. I'm now in new job after a week, I should be ok but it can be a bit physical at times, could do with it being a bit lighter but everything seems to be ok so far other than that so I'll just plod on for now. (Feel free to FYP with differing plodding on periods). But work to 67 onwards, aye?

  18. Friday night in, having a couple of drinks, chilling, couple of mates having a bit of crack via WhatsApp..... The Crack: Mate 1: "Last time I had ibuprofen was on me 60th birthday…I wasn’t feeling too good and me and Jane had the night in Berwick, had curry for lunch and Turkish for evening meal…as well as about 8 Ibuprofen…then the next day we went to Holy Island and we were about a mile away from the public toilets and the previous days Ibuprofen / food kicked in and despite a rather speedy walk to get to the bogs..I failed to reach them and shat my pants..I blamed it on turning 60. It wasn’t amusing at the time…though I do laugh now. Anyway, I got to the bogs as the last 100 yards or so were rather arse clenching as my guts certainly weren’t empty. I got ito the cubicle, dropped me trousers, peeled me boxers off me arse and sat on the bog…caked arse and boxers full of mud, and the smell unbearable. I took my socks, shoes and jeans off…gave my arse a wash with the bog water, and wiped myself clean with my socks, then dumped me socks and boxers down the bog, and put me jeans and socks back on. I didn’t feel dirty at all…and that was that. I’m glad I was of assistance to humour you chaps on this glorious evening…I don’t want to get into the drive home, but I thought I cleaned up thoroughly…and I was clearly acclimatised to my stench…Jane had difficulties driving without wretching. If it’s any consolation I haven’t shat myself since." Mate 2: I’ve had a similar experience myself. I drank Guinness for two days with the lads a few years back. We were playing cards in a pub in Durham when I indulged in a slight botty burp. I realised when I stood up that my arse and back were covered in black shite. Fortunately, I was wearing a trendy cardigan so I tied it around my waist until we got to the next pub. When I carried out a site survey I discovered that my worst fears had indeed come to pass. I spent a good 15 minutes raking out my 501’s and generally cleaning myself up. The train ride back was a little challenging as my chums took great pleasure in my misfortune." I recounted this tale....

  20. See I think my problem with Srarmer is he isn't offering any solution. But I'll agree he will manage our decline more efficiently and with much less corruption And to be glib there is an easy solution, rejoin the single market.

  23. Yeah this is bollocks. It's not a right wing narrative to think he should stand up to the press. Its not a right wing narrative to think this along with leaving the 2 child cap, raising bus fares, and losing the winter fuel allowance is terrible politics. Even the stuff I agree with like the inheritance tax on farms they've framed in such an amateurish way its allowed the press to attack Its not a right wing narrative to call out his cowardice in refusing to be honest about Brexit. I'm desperate for Labour to succeed. We need him to be better, for them to have any chance of turning this shit show round. If they dont christ knows what will happen at the next election He's got a fucking massive majority, he needs to use it I just don't get this attitude that any criticism isn't allowed and is playing to a right-wing narrative, if anyone is enabling a right wing narrative its him

  26. The truth is Gordon hasn’t hit the heights of last season but he’s still looked one of our biggest threats when on the pitch in most games. He’s had the odd poor game but which player hasn’t? He is clearly an asset.

  27. NJS didn't poverty chant and didn't insinuate he's a better person in the quotes you put up? He did imply that a lot of Liverpool fans give off a sense of moral superiority which they absolutely do. The Hitler/catholic church but was pure tongue in cheek is the way I took it but then again, I'm not a morally superior Liverpool fan.

  32. I'm as pro-European as anyone on this board. I had the EU flag in my profile before Rayvin joined. I always wanted full membership, the euro, and ultimately federalisation. But there is what I want, and there is reality. Look at the EU now and its constituent countries. Le Pen on the verge of becoming French Leader. A fascist in charge of Italy. AfD in Germany, with the powerhouse of Europe witnessing its industry collapse. Victor Orban. Right wing and nationalist parties rising everywhere in the continent, against a back drop of Trump and Putin. Theres's one hell of a lot wrong in Europe currently and for once the UK and its leader are not the issue here.

  35. Also to be honest, I'm not a fan of his as you know, but you have quite rightly pointed out that he is achieving some things in amidst all of this. For his own sake - not mine, not for my philosophical position - I wish he was shouting and screaming about it more. Labour have continuously let others set the agenda ever since Blair with the exception of Corbyn's doomed run. Like the guy or not, he was chasing his own plan. Starmer needs to be calling out and challenging the bullshit narratives, he cannot just rely on people taking notice of the fact that he's doing a decent job under difficult circumstances. Biden proves that much.

  36. Think they need two third super majorities? Like Brexit should have had.
    1 point
  37. I think the main issue with Starmer is exactly what SBTP says, he's a coward. He's got a massive majority and yet acts as if there's only one seat in it. Fuck the press, fuck the Tories - who knows what the world looks like in 5 years ffs. There's no point worrying about that now, nothing they're doing at this point will be remembered by anyone by the time the next GE comes along. We need an Obama or a Blair, and instead we've got a Chamberlain - which would be understandable if it was actually working. But it's not. He's being eviscerated all over the place, looks weak to all sides. Starmer feels like a man who doesn't trust himself - he's abandoned a great many things he believed in, which should have formed the strong foundations he went into office with. He's someone who reacts to things, rather than sets his own agenda. Doesn't have the balls to impose himself. Let's hope he's just keeping the seat warm for someone better...
