  1. http://www.transferleague.co.uk/league-tables/2006-2011.html We are bottom of the spending league since 2006. The Mackems are 5th. Arsenal are 2nd from bottom. This is something we should be proud of, in my opinion. # 2006 - 2011 Purchased Gross Sold Nett Per Season 1 Manchester City £455,670,000 £75,550,000 £380,120,000 £76,024,000 2 Chelsea £199,500,000 £101,800,000 £97,700,000 £19,540,000 3 Tottenham £230,300,000 £135,100,000 £95,200,000 £19,040,000 4 Aston Villa £145,350,000 £67,650,000 £77,700,000 £15,540,000 5 Sunderland £122,850,000 £65,725,000 £57,125,000 £11,425,000 6 Liverpool £253,240,000 £205,280,000 £47,960,000 £9,592,000 7 Stoke City £54,725,000 £10,920,000 £43,805,000 £8,761,000 8 West Ham £105,070,000 £68,225,000 £36,845,000 £7,369,000 9 Fulham £63,675,000 £28,875,000 £34,800,000 £6,960,000 10 Bolton £52,150,000 £26,750,000 £25,400,000 £5,080,000 11 Wolves £33,525,000 £8,225,000 £25,300,000 £5,060,000 12 West Bromwich Albion £46,585,000 £27,560,000 £19,025,000 £3,805,000 15 Everton £64,750,500 £48,250,000 £16,500,500 £3,300,100 14 Manchester United £164,300,000 £150,850,000 £13,450,000 £2,690,000 15 Birmingham City £64,875,000 £53,850,000 £11,025,000 £2,205,000 16 Blackpool £4,700,000 £250,000 £4,450,000 £890,000 17 Wigan £58,500,000 £60,200,000 -£1,700,000 -£340,000 18 Blackburn Rovers £41,752,000 £47,290,000 -£5,538,000 -£1,107,600 19 Arsenal £85,150,000 £113,000,000 -£27,850,000 -£5,570,000 20 Newcastle £63,100,000 £112,650,000 -£49,550,000 -£9,910,000 Hull £23,250,000 £9,225,000 £14,025,000 £2,805,000 Middlesbrough £79,700,000 £64,850,000 £14,850,000 £2,970,000 Burnley £13,090,000 £10,575,000 £2,515,000 £503,000 Leeds United £2,100,000 £12,800,000 -£10,700,000 -£2,140,000 Portsmouth £75,600,000 £104,520,000 -£28,920,000 -£5,784,000
  2. Temuri was, indeed, under-used. We would have done much better if he hadn't been on the bench on so many occasions. He was truly awesome, I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-WwDNFxbBM...feature=related
  3. If Birmingham stay up, they truly will be the real champions of England, when it comes to fans' happiness this season.
  4. I didn't know we were talking about him getting booed. Of course he'll get booed. Who cares? I thought we were talking about whether he was a Judas. And my opinion is no he isn't. He's done a lot for Newcastle United, including earn us a cool 35 million. But I also take exception to the idea that only an insane person would have been satisfied with 20,000 a week, even if more was on offer, elsewhere.
  5. AC is a young professional footballer who did what any sane human being would have done in his position, so he’ll probably get booed by our increasingly narcissistic away support. I like Andy Carroll. He played fantastic football for us, helped us up the league and ended up bringing us an astronomical amount of money. No one could possibly say that he hasn't done an incredible amount for Newcastle. But I don't see why you have to be insane to say 'no, 20,000 a week will be enough for me. I don't need more money, if it means leaving Newcastle.'
  6. FC Barcelona deserve praise too, for bringing him through the ranks. Not like spending 40 million on someone who's already a superstar (which any imbecile can do), but bringing him and so many others through the ranks. True respect to them for that.
  7. My experience tells me that when you buy a wow-signing, it doesn't improve the team at all, but turnst the club into a vehicle for the signing, rather than a club in its own right. There are exceptions, but I think what I say is the rule rather than the exception. And when we bought Keegan as a player. it took two years before we were promoted, and it was every bit as much thanks to Beardsley and Waddle, as it was to Keegan.
  8. I don't mean we can qualify this season. I mean next season we may be able to.
  9. May I suggest to Shearer that is was staggering to offer him a new contract worth 100,000 a week, in 2004???
  10. Yes, you're right. Shearer and Llambias got into a slagging match.
  11. On the other hand they sacked Hughton who was performing above expectations, replaced him with someone that's performed no better, sold our best player, got into a slagging match with Shearer, failed to sell ANY of the advertising space they claim to just be showcasing with Sports Drect, moved thousands of fans who didn't want to move, jeopardised the atmosphere in the ground going forward, screwed up the renewals process so badly no-one even has a clue if they've received our applications or not and announced massive losses in their accounts. Is my glass half empty? Got into a slagging match with Shearer? Please, tell us a little bit of detail.
  12. I made a mistake, which is why I deleted it.
  13. Cairg, I think you missed the point about contradictory statements. He posted a long article, but instead of putting 'in my opinion...' in front of each sentence, he decided to save time and energy, by only putting it at the end. I wish more people would write 'in my opinion' like he did. And you should be pleased that he did. It shows lack of arrogance.
  14. We aren't that far away from challenging for Europe. The the domestic cups can be won with a bit of luck. But I do think we should make an effort in each cup match, and not field a weakened team or anything like that.
  15. Gemmill, you said that Christmas Tree's expectations were low. and then you said this. Okay, you use the word 'expectations' in 2 different ways, I can see that. But regarding the use of the word 'expectations' in the FIRST way, what should our expectations be?
  16. I don't think they're contradictory. It's perfectly possible to be of the opinion that a club would have gone into administration under certain circumstances.
  17. Gemmill, what are your expectations and how would you suggest they be attained?
  18. They've studied gorillas and found that they are able to count the bananas they get, but totally fail to register bananas they lose.
  19. As a fan of Ashley, I can back you up. There is no way he was pressurised into appointing Keegan. I haven't read that he was, but if you have read such stuff, I can assure you that I back you up; Ashley was in no way pressurised into appointing Keegan. We were very happy when it happened (and misrablle 8 months later), but no way was there any pressure. It suits the press's vision of us. It's about time they understood that we are not deluded, and that the Toon is a well-run club.
