  1. I think one thing that I may have done wrong, is not exiting all other programs upon installing SP2.

Thanks for your help, I'll probably do a clean install of XP when I get round to it and then try again, following the instructions EXACTLY.

  2. not being funny pud, but is a cat worth it? I know they've got the whole independent buddy thing going on, but I've never found em particularly charismatic and as easily replaced as say... a  chair

I have two cats, and yes, they would be worth it.

  3. I can't install Service Pack 2 on my computer, as when I do so it will go for about a minute if I'm lucky without crashing. Also, when it crashes my screen changes to a solid colour, sometimes blue, sometimes red etc (basically it's like you've filled the screen with a colour in paint, and then viewed it in full screen mode). It will also sometimes change to multi-coloured stripes.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Is my PC simply not compatible with SP2?

    Much help appreciated

P.S. - I hope all that makes sense, I'm not the best at explaining things ;)

    Souey to revive Bridge bid

by James Pearson - created on 11 Sep 2005

Graeme Souness is looking to revive his bid for Chelsea's Wayne Bridge after missing out on the defender last month.

The Newcastle United boss enquired whether The Blues would be willing to allow Bridge to leave on loan, but his move was rebuffed.

However, Souness feels he is short of left back options, with Celestine Babayaro failing to impress against Fulham on Saturday, and has not given up hope of signing Bridge.

One stumbling block behind a move could be funds with The Magpies splashing out on Michael Owen and Nolberto Solano before the transfer window closed.

Bridge is yet to feature for Chelsea this season after returning from injury, but with Asier Del Horno set for a stint on the sidelines he is set to come to the fore.

"We tried to get Wayne in on loan before the transfer window closed because it's an area we felt we needed to strengthen," said Souness.

"I had him as a young player at Southampton, he was a left winger there, but modern full backs are really wingers.

"You'd have to ask the chairman if there's money in the kitty for further signings."

    Latics tried for Owen

by Mark Buckingham - created on 2 Sep 2005

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed the club tried to sign Michael Owen.

Reports last week suggested the Premiership new boys had made an audacious bid to land the England international from Real Madrid.

Owen spoke to The Latics before opting to return to The Premiership with Newcastle United, who spent a club record £16 million on the striker.

The Latics had been desperate to secure a new forward before the transfer deadline and Owen was among the targets for Paul Jewell.

Though Owen snubbed the chance to move to The JJB Stadium, he called Whelan to offer his gratitude for Wigan's interest.

Whelan was delighted to be able to speak to the former Liverpool ace and insists the plan to sign Owen was not merely a publicity stunt.

"Michael rang to say thanks for trying to sign him," said Whelan.

"He joined Newcastle but we did everything in our power to try to bring him to The JJB Stadium.

"Ringing up was a wonderful gesture. He made time to speak to me once he made it clear he was going to Tyneside.

"Our move was not a publicity stunt. I was even prepared to put a clause in that would allow him to move at Christmas."

  7. The only thing in my life that makes me a cynical fucker is NUFC.

I remember my old man when he came home from the 74 Cup Final say "I'll never pay another penny to watch them cunts ever again" He's 71 now and he never did go back.

The whole Club (and I include a vast majority of the supporters, me included until not so recently,  in that equation) is just not set up to embrace success. The Club just accept that being nearly men is good enough, the players pick up the wages every week (notice I didn't say 'earn there wages') and the supporters (myself included) just blindly hand over a stupid amount of money at the drop of a hat every season. I ask now more than ever why the fuck should I give them overpaid underachieving wankers my hard earned?

The ovation given to the team after the semi final defeat last season was the prime example of why we will never challenge consistantly for silverware. The vast majority accept shite - fact!

But the killer for me is seeing Dyer get a reported £80k a week for the shite he produces week in week out - the very thought that I finance the little cunts lifestyle will, if I think long and hard about it, make me end my financial input into NUFC.

    AXE HOVERS OVER SOUEY

    Aug 21 2005

    By Paul Smith

GRAEME SOUNESS is now on the brink of being sacked by Newcastle United.

And the shock name emerging as his likely successor is Aston Villa boss David O'Leary.

The Geordies' paltry return of just one point from their opening two Premiership games has piled intense pressure on the Toon boss.

Bookies William Hill last night cut the odds on Souness being the first Premiership manager to be sacked this season from 9-2 to 5-2 favourite.

United were booed off by angry fans after yesterday's goalless draw against West Ham. The Hammers were reduced to ten men for the final 35 minutes after Paul Konchesky was sent off for a professional foul.

And the inability of the home side to create any meaningful openings provoked anger among the Geordie fans.

In fact, Souness is under so much scrutiny that the Newcastle board may have to look at a potential caretaker boss to take charge in any managerial emergency.

They could turn to Glenn Roeder, the former West Ham boss, who recently returned to Newcastle to join the club's youth coaching set-up.

But after suffering a brain tumour. It would be a massive decision for him to get involved in high profile, first team football again.

  12. I want out of goldfish bowl Aug 5 2005

By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle

Graeme Souness admitted today that Jermaine Jenas wants to leave St James' Park - because he feels he is living in a goldfish bowl on Tyneside.

The situation with Jenas has been simmering for some time now although Souness insisted in the Chronicle last night that he had no row with the player.

But my feeling is that United are resigned to losing the England international - because he wants to leave.

Neither chairman Freddy Shepherd nor Souness want Jenas to go, but the player is clearly unhappy on Tyneside and my feeling is that they will have little alternative but to cash in on him.

Souness has talked about wanting £20m for Jenas and while this may be a bit ambitious, United will be looking to nearly treble the £5m they paid Nottingham Forest for the midfielder in February 2002.

However, United stressed today that Jenas has not asked for a transfer and that there are no current bids for him.

Souness maintained that there has been no row with Jenas after the 22-year-old midfielder was named in the United squad for the Intertoto Cup semi-final with Deportivo La Coruna - but was then conspicuous by his absence.

And in an exclusive interview with the Chronicle today, Souness said: "I have spoken to the player's agent and he tells me that JJ is quite happy with things at the football club.

"But he says JJ feels that it is like living in a goldfish bowl being a United player in Newcastle and that's the biggest problem."

There was a report today that Jenas could be off to Tottenham in a £10m move, but it would not surprise me in the least if he ended up at Highbury instead.

The Chronicle revealed on June 25 that Spurs wanted Jenas and that they were prepared to let striker Robbie Keane come in the opposite direction.

But Souness added: "Robbie Keane is not the kind of striker I am looking for at the moment."

On the other hand, United would probably be prepared to talk to Middlesbrough about a package involving Jenas and striker Mark Viduka.

But the feeling at St James' Park is that Jenas's head has been turned by the bright lights of London and that's where he will eventually end up.

My money would be on Highbury - where United just happen to open their Premiership cam-paign in just nine days time.

Looking at the bigger picture Souness adds: "I don't want Jenas to leave because I would like see him as an important part of our midfield for years to come.

"He's 22 while Scott Parker and Emre are only two years older.

"They could spend years together in our midfield and have a great understanding both on and off the field."
