This obsession they have in terms of geography and who you must support as a result of it is fucking insane.
There's a lot of suggestion that Jackie Milburn grew up supporting Sunderland. He discretely would never be drawn on it and would divert conversation around it so I've always presumed that, despite being Ashington born a bred, there was probably some truth to it - in spite of geographical location.Supposing he was for argument’s sake. Only they would take that as a win, given he became our record goalscorer and won three fa cups

Bobby Robson was quoted several times as being a boyhood NUFC fan even if he was part of a generation where a lot of people went to both teams matches and may have done so himself but they won't have it and just because it was Lanchester, claim he must have been one of theirs. The cunts.
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”
That makes fuck all sense in the context of SAFC tbh.

It isn’t whataboutery. I’m not criticising anyone for supporting Palestine. I am moved by the solidarity and support to the cause. This is a genuine observation. Clearly there is equivalence between Ukraine and Gaza. But where I live in London there are scores of houses with Palestine flags or “Free Palestine” posters in their front windows, and have been since even the early days following October 7. I’ve never seen a single Ukrainian flag displayed in a similar way. We also know about the regular marches down here, which continue deep into the conflict. Again, you don’t see this show of support for Ukraine.
Maybe it’s as Rayvin says and people
are just more inclined to show support because the UK is allied to Israel and Russia is our enemy. Or maybe it’s because people really fucking hate Israel. My personal view is Netanyahu and Putin are cut from the same cloth
You’ll have to forgive my Jewish paranoia but I’ll put it this way: this forum, where I’m protected by anonymity, is where I choose to air these views now. I’ve stopped trying to engage in these conversations with friends anymore. No body wants to hear this side of the story. Perhaps i’ll stop here too.
Please don’t stop. Without wishing to put words in people’s mouths, I’d hope everyone on here would be similar to me and would feel terrible about it if you no longer felt able to or wanted to express your views about this on here. I tend to keep out of this but not because of a lack of interest or caring, more a sense hopelessness about the whole situation.
On the point of Ukraine as opposed to Palestine then I suppose the main difference in perception is Ukraine being able to defend itself and countries like ours helping them to do so. With Palestine then at best we’re doing nothing and at worst we’re fully complicit (or somewhere in between). It’s highly unlikely any UK PM would or could’ve felt they could act differently but it’s still a marked difference in the stance towards the two conflicts.
On the other side I think it must be incredibly difficult to be (for want of a better term) ‘openly Jewish’ and express yourself without fear of being attacked. Either literally or in a figurative sense online and so on. I can’t really imagine what that is like. It’s probably always been a bit like that but it must be so much worse now. I doubt it’s as bad for people with Russian heritage living in the UK even. Although I’m sure that can’t be easy at times either.-

I guess where Gloom is coming from
here is a lot of the IDF are conscripted and some of them are members of his own family. Which is totally understandable of course

if you lead a chant of "death to the IDF" you are inciting the murder of an entire army. i'm not here to defend the IDF - or the despicable government giving them their orders - but a chant like that is a different ball park to "free palestine" or "fuck kier starmer". like i said, the army includes many peaceniks who want fuck all to do with what is happening but tragically have no choice - they are forced to serve
It’s a fucking stupid thing to say but they’re trying to make a point rather than anything else imo. It’s one thing inciting a group who are in a position to carry something out and a different matter when it’s a situation like this. I’m not saying you can say what you want without consequences but I feel like it’s not a particularly proportionate response by the media and politicians given the wider context and the obvious war crimes being committed with the tacit approval of ours and other governments

There was an incident a while back where a Palestinian lad the same age as my eldest was shot and killed. His family said he was gathering almonds and the Israeli government spokesperson said they were a terrorist throwing stones at cars on a busy road. Now even if you accept the latter version, they’re basically admitting they think it’s justifiable to kill kids for throwing stones. I know that’s just one drop in a sea of tragedies but how is it somehow worse in the eyes of government to criticise the IDF, however clumsily? Actually then talking about prosecuting them as well? I don’t see how it’s hate speech. I actually think conflating the IDF and its actions with all Jewish people, which is essentially what is being done with the reaction, is far worse. On top of which there will be more people happy to use it to bash the bbc than there will be people with genuine concerns about antisemitism.

Gammons in the comments complaining about why they have to pay for other people to have kids. I guarantee that these idiots haven't connected this to immigration and will happily crow about that at the same time. Either we have more kids, or we have high immigration - which is it, you clueless fucking muppets. You can't whine about both things at the same time.
They’ll be the same ones saying we should look after our own whilst kicking off about free school meals

So, my great uncle (who I've talked about on here before) who was missing/KIA in 1915 will be laid to rest, with full military honours etc. In September on the 110th anniversary of the battle/his death. I will be there.
Just been on the phone with BBC Scotland who are looking at covering the discovery, identification and ceremony as a documentary and they want to film with me and the artefacts (letters) we have. Yikes Toonpack on TV 😂
That’s brilliant

It nails a lot of my feelings about Glastonbury like. And that’s having seen barely any of it this year. The point about Rod Stewart as well. I mean he was a parody of himself when I was a kid in the 80s. I do think he did some ok stuff about a decade before that but he’s that type of artist where I just cannot fathom anyone wanting to see live, ie a renowned vocalist whose voice is absolutely shot. It’s just embarrassing for all concerned. Then you have the BBC presenter cunts going full North Korea and insisting (I assume, as they did with Elton John) that it was a <insert superlative here> performance for the ages.

The initial signings took the club forward at a ridiculous rate. But they’ve also left us in the predicament we are in re: PSR. To just heap praise on Staveley doesn’t really look at the whole picture. Obviously PSR is designed to stymie us interlopers. And we’ve all got to give fanks to Mike for the lack of revenue streams which have also been a massive factor. I do think she was a good link between the footballing management side of things and the (real) ownership however. But I don’t think it was a particularly sustainable transfer policy. Unless you’d be happy to see some of our best players leave to go to the sides we’re trying to chase down

its been a month of an absolute embarrassing shitshow. every single player we've been heavily linked to has fucked off elsewhere.
I don't mind if it's because we've been gazumped on wages by the more well established 'big clubs' we're all well aware of the hurdles in our way here.
what really fucks me off is idea of missing out on players for a pocket change £5m which is how it' seems we're missing out due to haggling over these days..
the very same pocket change we could easily make up.with a few credible sponsorships which shouldn't even raise an eyebrow.
for fucks sake I'm not suggesting we sell our under 10s team to ourselves for £2b here but by the same token we shouldn't be low balling burnley for £5m for their keeper when we could raise that with a training kit sponsorship.
fucking pathetic when every cunt else is literally taking the piss.

Chelsea's women's team were valued at what they may be potentially worth
On first glance, Chelsea Women being valued at £200m might seem quite high for a company with under £15m in revenue last season, but the long-term case for investment in women’s football is strong,” Jordan Gardner, a global football club management and investment strategy consultant at Twenty First Group, tells The Athletic.
“NWSL expansion clubs starting from scratch are selling for well over $100m and are only going up. In comparison, Chelsea have incredible existing brand equity value, and it could be argued that £200m is undervalued when taking into account the upside opportunity leveraging the history and attractive location of the club, alongside the growth of the WSL.
Yeah but you could still theoretically demonstrate that more easily if you’re established, successful team I suppose. I.e. there’s no way we’d have been allowed to make a similar argument/have a similar valuation. I mean it’s all fucking bollocks anyway and it was just a way of letting Chelsea get out of their predicament.
