read the blurb on the official site? "...6th signing... strengthening the team that finished 10th."

Fuck off man, he's a loan signing, just like Kenedy. Dubravka and Kenedy were here last season. We've swapped Gayle for Rondon, just like Merino for Ki. We've not strengthened much at all.

We've upgraded ever so slightly the quality but not added any depth and haven't progressed the squad.

Don't disagree with much of this. However, regardless of what we know about how he exploits the employees of SD, the  amoral cunt Ashley is a legitimate businessman. Any Russian rich enough to give MA what he wants for us isn't likely to have started his business career with a couple of sports shops in suburban St Petersburg.

This sounds like a defence of Ashley. It's not. It's disenchantment with the state of football ownership in England in general,  It's utterly morally bankrupt and selling to a a Russian gangster is more likely to drive me away than a spell in the conference tbh.

That's fair but people don't get rich enough to pay for and run PL football clubs by being ethical about it. A Russian coming in and throwing cash around on players for Rafa will no doubt excite many fans, just like SJH did for KK in the PL.

It would get the feeling that the club is well alive and still can tick, because when NUFC ticks it fucking ticks, like.

I think it's reasonable to evaluate your position vs potential positions and the odds of that but I agree with you that in this instance I would take your hand off for the opportunity to roll the dice.

Newcastle could easily do a Sunderland with Ashley at the helm after Rafa goes.  He's certainly stupid/stubborn enough to fuck up that badly.  So complete annihilation of the club is the only way it gets any worse and I think the chances of that are pretty low.

  4. Considering staying on anyway. I actually love the bloke. Please can a takeover just materialise out of thin air please, ffs.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6029183/Benitez-reveals-Newcastle-players-frustrated-lack-business-summer.html

Rafa Benitez has revealed that his Newcastle players are just as frustrated as him with Mike Ashley's apparent refusal to invest in new signings.

The boss is mystified as to the owner's reluctance to back him in the transfer market and has warned that another season fighting relegation lies in store.

They are refusing to speak to the press while the bonus dispute continues and we understand they are also considering not fulfilling obligations with some media rights holders, which could lead to financial penalties for the club.

Asked if his team shared his concerns, Benitez said: 'One hundred per cent. The players know. They want to have better players around because they have more possibilities to win.'

The Spaniard wants four more signings before this week's deadline and West Brom striker Salomon Rondon is set to arrive in a loan swap deal with Dwight Gayle going the other way.

But Benitez - who is yet to sign a new contract - had hoped it would be very different, especially as Newcastle are £26million in profit this summer.

'My idea was that at this stage of pre-season everything would be completed and we would be ready and working with my players for one month - it's not the case,' he said.

'If they trust us, give us the tools, we will deliver. We have done it everywhere and won trophies. In this case, I was expecting we could deliver something.'

He added: 'To balance the team we need four players. Can we do it? Yes. Can we do the ideal window now? It's impossible because we have lost the opportunities. It's a pity that after two months we are talking about the last five days.

'It will be more difficult than last year. Wolves, Fulham, Cardiff, especially the first two, are spending money. Crystal Palace, West Ham, everyone is spending money.

'I've had the meeting (with Ashley) and I talk with Lee Charnley (managing director) every day. They know my idea, I know their ideas.

'I can talk (about a new contract), but we have to walk the walk and talk the talk. We have to do things. It has to be done. If we want to improve, you need to be sure it will be done.

'The problem is we have been talking about the future for the past month and we are not going in the same direction.

'I will fight until the end. I cannot guarantee anything. But in my head, it's to stay and to fight and make sure we do well. If everything is right then we can talk about the future.'

  5. The club is dying with Ashley here. Hate the "careful what you wish for" and "better the devil you know" lines personally, the fact that the soul of NUFC has been sapped to the point of anything barely existing there is enough of a reason to give someone else a crack. In terms of assuming there is even the tiniest bit of truth in this, the only Russian in football with money I know whom is without full control of a club is Usmanov, who wants rid of his Arsenal shares.

Even still, a buyer will need to call Ashley's bluff. The bloke is such a cunt he'll be desperate to get a feeling that he's 'winning' the deal. Horrid bastard.

It won’t even happen when Benitez leaves.

I’m not sure where I said protests do nothing, my point was that it’d need to be a proper one as in people stop buying tickets and stop frequenting his stores. I’m not having a go at people who go and continue to go, just that a complete boycott would be the only sort of protest he might have some response to.

I think the spends you mention correlate to attempts at staving off relegations rather than a reaction to fans leaving a match at half time.

Wasn't necessarily aiming the thinking protests do nowt at you, just seen other posts hinting at it. The fact that many are getting involved in actually doing something instead of sitting on their arse not doing a single thing, disapproving of the things that are being done. It's tedious and creates division which is what Ashley wants.

Aye unfortunately the sky money means fans have less impact. I think if there was a complete boycott of games, his trampy shops, the puma tat that fills NUFC direct (what a joke that is btw), he might take a bit of notice but he knows and we all know that won’t happen.

It will but it won't whilst Rafa's here and I include myself in that though if a collective boycott was organised for a designated match a la Spurs 3 years ago me and my dad would join in. Problem with that is large scale, and by that I mean quasi whole stadium protest like a boycott won't happen until post Rafa. Large scale action needs to happen now.

And I think it's shortsighted to claim that protests do nothing, just about Sky money, he doesn't give a fuck etc. I don't think that's true.

Cardiff (h) walkout - alright money spent on players during summer

SackPardew during Hull (h) - Announcement of Jonas' cancer via Bishop and press releases just before the game

BoycottSpurs - Most active windows and highest net spend under Ashley in following seasons

Personally I'm bored of the whole super fan protest culture circus now. They should either put up or shut up. Either carry on going to the games & accept they are lining Ashley's pockets, or walk away & find something else to do with their time that doesn't cause them as much conspicuous emotional agony. Last season the mantra was; "all we want is a team that tries." Now we've got one it's not enough apparently, so we're demanding 50 million quid players like toddlers at the shops and threatening to flounce off if the manager does one. Can you imagine Benitez's press conference after the latest trip to the barricades following the Braga shambles? “It’s clear to see the fans are worried. Thankfully a few supporters have written a letter and I can confirm Mike Ashley has now sold the club, having bought Mbappe and Willian as farewell presents. Keep on keeping on.”... Give it a rest lads, eh?

    :anguish:

  9. I'd much, much rather he took money out of the club whilst allowing it to operate rather than the bullshit 'I charge no interest, aren't I generous?' state of nothingness we have now.

  10. 39 minutes ago, Howay said:

Agreed, iirc if it’s true it’s yet another example of Mike Ashley being a lying cunt as I’m fairly sure at one point he said we’d only sell players for the full fee, no installments, and buy players that way too.

What a complete waste of time this club is with this whopper as owner. Fucking Leicester just spent £12.5M on what could be a back up keeper (I know they may be selling Schmeichal but at the moment they’re claiming Ward is competition) and we have a net profit of about £6M or so when we desperately need to improve a workmanlike squad.

We only need 3 players to kick on ffs, it's baffling. A striker, CB and a backup full back and we can kick on. Don't even think we need a no.10 as we created chances a plenty last season, it's putting them away that was our problem. The twats dithered and didn't bother increasing the offer for Pléa, one of Rafa's top targets allegedly and a player that would've excited me and a few other fans had we signed him and missed out to a midtable Bundesliga side. Now we're going for Rondon.

It's beyond anger now for me, it's complete boredom. Hopefully I get into uni next year as I can't be arsed with this shitshow for much longer.

  11. A buyer needs to come in and call his bluff. I can't see anything else getting rid of him. People talk about wanting relegation(s); when we go down he "loans" the club his money to cover costs for transfers/wages for promotion and once we go up the cycle starts again. The club is just in limbo, going nowhere whilst he remains.

    Hope I'm wrong, obviously.

What's needed for him to fuck off out of our club is him dying (hopefully soon and painfully) or someone to call his bluff and, Dr King Schultz style, make an offer so ridiculous he'd be forced to consider it. And I don't think that's around the corner, as much as I want it to be.

  13. New kits are decent. The away one is lush. Shame that they're charging £60 for it. Wankers. Anyway, was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy the kit below? I am aware the season which it is from was absolutely lifting which is probably the reason so few of them are kicking about, but I like the kit itself. Unfortunately the only ones I can find are sans the Greenall's sponsor. I would like one with the sponsor on it, it adds authenticity imo. Anyway, does anyone know where I could find one?
