The real issue is that they drive wages down (or keep them down as the case may be) and they send a load of their cash back home, so it doesnt get put back into our economy. But that doesnt sound quite as dramatic I grant you.

Just a small point but worth mentioning. An EC immigrant cannot get benefits if they have not paid in sufficient NI contributions. That's the whole point of the EC-they're economic immigrants.

In all seriousness, the only ones who have any excuse for being on the streets begging are the ones with genuine mental health problems as theyre unable to personally avail themselves of the social security help and support which is obviously out there for them. In these cases intervention is required. This aplies equally to the drug addict as they are obviously unable to work and fund their habit, (though at the same time I doubt begging would generate suffiecient funds to fund it either so you wonder). As for any young, able bodied, able minded people, well theyre just taking the piss.
