Yeah. The reason I'd never got into King was because I'm not a fan of the horror genre either. I'm a bit clueless when it comes to contemporary fiction.

I've recently got into fantasy since I've starting reading a lot more fiction though, so I think I'll give the Dark Tower a go at some point.

I think fantasy is one of those genres that you either like or you don't though really. I dismissed it as worthwhile reading for so many years on the basis that I couldn't get through Lord of the Rings for love nor money. I've come around though.

I've read the Dark Tower series a couple of times, I loved it as it links into loads of his other books (you get characters turning up from Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis and Insomnia off the top of my head). The first book in the series is a bit rough going as it was one of the first things he wrote but it's short and mostly western themed so if you can push through than then you should be fine with the others. It never strays too far into traditional fantasy, but there are elements of parallel worlds and there's a bit of King Arthur's mythology meshed with the westerns themes.

  2. Was chatting with another driver yesterday who used to work on black cabs in Newcastle. He reckons the clientele with Uber is much improved, but more importantly it's completely done away with people robbing him and people running away from fares. They can get out and run and he just swipes end trip, charges them, then gives them a 1 star review so other drivers know to refuse them in future.

CT absolutely shitting his pants. If you've got a promo code, @@The Mighty Hog, pm me it and I'll apply it which will get you a tenner.

    Done and done, Chief.

  3. Used one for the first time last night after a gig ran late and I missed the last bus. In short the driver got lost adding extra time and distance to the journey then his sat nav sent him on a ridiculously long way to my place. I was immediately billed more than the highest end of the estimate by at good 6 quid. But the app gives you a chance to ask Uber staff to review the journey if you feel it was inefficient. It was after midnight when I got home and I dropped them a message and by 3.30am they'd reviewed the route, corrected the fare and refunded the difference.

He has extensive past form when it comes to Newcastle fans.

Didn't someone on here post a story about Barclay, a prossie and a bag of fruit and veg?

I remember Peaspud and him getting into a back and forth over fan ownership in the very early days of NUST. He came across as a smug, condecending prick who seemed to think all anyone had to do was band together, say they were going to buy the club and that was that. His go to answer when anyone questioned his knowledge of the club is that was reporting on our matches back in the early eighties.
