I could say the same about Shilpa's chicken effort. We're all thick when it comes to something. It isn't about being 'thick' anymore, infact a lot of so called 'thick people' have honed an act that they think absolves them of a degree of responsability. The chicken is a red herring.

Couldn't have said it better myself. There are hundreds of thousands like Jade out there in Britain do they all have this bad background 'get out of jail' defence?? No excuse. Let the culling begin. Teddy Sheringham's bird apparently wanted for nothing when she was growing up. I think she should be far more ashamed than Jade since she seems to have had the opportunity and support to get an education but was more interested in shoes. For whatever reason though, she's just as ignorant due to a lack of education. I don't think it is just education but agree that is a factor. I think 'people' know what they are doing and they 'know' how they should behave, but choose to for whatever reason to carry on like these three. The race thing is difficult because sometimes it isn't a conscious choice, but often a generalised aggression and they can't admit to themselves that they 'just don't like people of a different colour or culture. In effect they aren't self-actualised enough to understand their own motivations (perhaps distracted as you say by shoes). But in 2007 I really don't have time for this. The SHOULD know better. ....I'd just like to add that the world is past the tipping point regarding this kind of stuff...Nowadays shit happens...The talking is over. Sad but true, these days people who are racist end up at some point getting their just desserts and this in turn perpetuates this dangerous and tragic cycle.

Didn't realise it was that erotic like (it is a Penguin Classic I'll have you know). Good though YOu been to Verlaine's website Al? One excellent (tongue in cheek) electro pop mix on there of one of his songs. Not recently. Might have a look later though. He sings it in a very camp German.

It's very clearly displaced and underlying racism (the irrational fear/dislike of someone because they are different, but vocalised as non-specific aggression). The conversations about "Do they eat with their hands"..Going on about Shilpa's accent and even mocking it (playing out/verbalising) to each other. The general tone of how Shilpa has been dealt with by the three other young girls with an air of scrutiny and overt criticism of every little mistake she makes. The whispering in her presence etc.. It is clearly playing out as a textbook case of the 'fear of the other' and I suspect large measures of jealousy as Shilpa is actually very famous 'and liked' in India, where as these three trashy little madams probably know that people see through them and that their fame/being liked is going to be very temporary. That's my take on it anyway. But I have a strong feeling that CH4 has engineered this knowingly. Just to add I'm not saying they are evil or anything.
