No, your eyes don’t deceive you, this actually happened. Forgive us for blowing our own trumpets, but it’s not as if the police are going to do it for us on this occasion

Last week saw an almost unprecedented apology from one of the country’s top policemen to a group of football supporters. Ian Hopkins, Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), attended a Fans Forum to personally apologise for the treatment of fans by his officers.

The Football Supporters Federation stands up for fans across the country, and it’s good to see that our work is beginning to pay off. We campaigned successfully against the misuse of Section 27 legislation last season, we’ve been working with Sunderland fans in an ongoing investigation into police brutality by Northumbria Police this season, as well as helping fans in individual cases week-in, week-out.

The FSF is there for when the shit hits the fan, but we’re far more than that – find out more about getting involved and join for free (and get yourself a couple of freebies) at www.fsf.org.uk/join.php

Well if it is then what sort of response does he expect to get posting it on a Newcastle forum!?

I think Stoke fans are generally scum but the work the FSF did with them to show up GM police was excellent and should be of interest to any fan.

The Mackems should really complain about being setup but I suppose brutality is the only thing they have a chance of proving.

He just said it as an aside, but he probably did so because it involves Northumbria Police, which is obviously relevant to NUFC fans too.

As funny as it may be to see the Mackems falling foul of the law when you see the evidence presented by both sides it becomes abundantly clear that the conduct of the rozzers was shocking. Regardless of who they support fans should never be subjected to that type of treatment (yes, that even includes Scousers). We all know that you of all people KD would be the first one shaking your virtual fist in unmitigated webrage had it happened to you. And Wacky would call you a cunt for good measure.

It's nice to see the FSF doing more stirling work on behalf of your regular football fan. Every fucker should sign up, especially now it's free. Power in numbers an'aal that.

Im unaware of the what happened at Central Station tbh? Although I do recall some youtube footage of knackers running across the tracks and hoying stuff. Werent they Mackems iirc?

That footage was from the derby last year or the year before. We can all agree those were wankers.

Basically in the summer Sunderland fans were bundled onto a train in Edinburgh which was apparently bound for Sunderland but instead stopped at Central Station where they were forced off. Northumbria's finest were ready and waiting, generally acting as police do in 'crowd control' situations by being overly aggressive themselves complete with unmuzzled dogs, batons etc. Eventually it kicked off, police saying that the Mackems started attacking the dogs (:() and the Mackems saying the police started attacking fans at random.

The end result was a few dozen fans left feeling shaken and a handful with fairly serious injuries which required length spells in hospital. The police released a laughable piece of public relations dirge saying that a few of the dogs (Rocco, Socko, Minnie and Mackem Killa if I remember correctly) had bruises, complete with photo of concerned officer and dog.

A few of the fans managed to get away with recording the action on their mobiles which basically corroborated their version of events - the fans were by and large fantastically behaved then the police let the dogs off the leads and started clubbing people. The police in turn released a CCTV video of their own showing fans having a sing song and nothing else.

Basically Northumbria Police have went around trying to put the frightners on the fans who are willing to stand up and testify against them, by coming around a day or two after interviewing them and arresting them for no reason. At the last count I think there was a few dozen fans who they'd visited and locked up and guess what? They're yet to charge anyone.
