Apart from win world cups like. Brazil had a George Best in Garrincha before George Best came along. He was fucking phenomenal. He wasn't Pele though. It is another level whichever way you look at it, it's one of the few settled arguments in football iyam.

About 6 of those categories come under the heading 'reasoanble doubt' btw

STFU Alex. Can't I just be allowed to hate Man U in peace?

The thing is and I know it's cliched, but it's cliched for a good reason, you've got Pele and Maradona who were the two best players in the history of the game and they are on their own altogether. Below that you've then got a number of players who could lay claim to be third best (or 'in the top three'), however the reality is that third place is a level down from the other two mentioned. I think it's often casually said because in sport you've traditionally got the gold/silver/bronze places (not football I grant you) so you look for a top three, but it's a misnomer in a sense because it'd be wrong to lump the third place player in with Pele and Maradona. They were simply better and the third placed man only ends up on the same podium as them because you're looking for an arbitrary number. Everything I've heard/seen about Tony Green makes me wish I'd been lucky enough to have just seen one of the few matches he'd played for us.

Nah he gets that sort of bigging up anyway because he played for Man U. In fact he sometimes gets called 'the best player of all time' by serious journalists specifically because he played for them, which is obvious nonsense.

I'm joking btw, that's exactly the correct point you flag up. In terms of admission evidence, it's reliability depends entirely on the (human) circumstances in which it was generated. I don't know what those circumstances were like so I'm not commenting one way or another.

I guess the bit that's implied about that statement is: "being as they suspect she actually was involved" Fuck knows what the truth is and how reliable the DNA was but if Knox told provable lies to the authorities then I suppose the family may always have a suspicion-and equally Knox will always have to accept that telling lies has caused that suspicion. Even if it was done entirely consistently with not having killed her. That's not said judgmentally, it's just how it is. That's how authorities investigate and prosecute cases-they test the veracity of the evidence and some of Knox's was evidently not true. The bullshit statements she came out with came after hours on end of prolonged questioning by the police. I don't know what the tone of this questioning was, but I've read books and seen documentaries about people who have been wrongfully convicted of crimes, and a recurring theme is the convicted changing their story just to try and bring an end to the questioning and give the police what they feel they're looking for (short of a confession). Which in this case seems to have been an admission that she was present but not involved at the time of the murder. No idea if that's what happened here like, and it's perfectly understandable that in the Kerchers eyes, that calls into doubt their innocence. Aye, well as long as you've seen a few documentaries we're alright Gem.

Is Krul one of the best keepers in the league?

It's about 5.50 (for four cans) in Tesco.
-
Quality. Not a single high kicking step over in sight, just pure balance, perfect weight distribution, body swerve and immaculate feet. Someone tried a pointless step-over in the Tottenham/Arsenal game the other day and I was just left thinking....you're a professional footballer? Didn't fool the defender and the ball was never truly under control. We sacrifice a lot in the Prem for pace.
-
Some quality stuff there btw Jonny. Your guts must be in tatters mind.
-
I couldnt believe the price of that man! £5.50 a CAN! Where the fuck do you buy your cans?

Whether he's an international class finisher or not is another debate altogether, but that bit in bold is the last thing he should be having leveled against him as criticism. Only hope he decides he'll ram those words back down his throat by continuing to put a shift in for us and getting recognition in the Prem.

What a spectacularly sad and irrelevant case. -
Where's that? (I'm guessing Sweden or Spain) Neither it's Innsbruck in Austria, I love this pic. That is fucking class!

That's interesting. I think one of the most important, if not the most important, qualities of a keeper is you should emit reliability, your defenders must have complete confidence in their keeper. James was indeed a flapper and when he went up for a cross everybody, including his defenders, knew that there was a risk of him making a mess of it. That is not a reliable keeper, he didn't know his shortcomings. Given doesn't come for half as many crosses because he knows his strengths and weaknesses. The very best keepers have it all, as you say hopefully Krul will become one such keeper. Basically aye. But James didn't miss that many in point of fact, it's just the errors were more memorable than the routine takes, so it would often come across like that. I would say percentage wise it helps if your keeper jumps and makes it physically far more difficult for a striker to have a free header. There are crosses that should always be left by the keeper however and for me that's where the true judgment lies. Given never came for owt at all though so it was never a judgment call in the true sense. -

Was gutted when Given went because he was such a phenomenal shotstopper. However he had no command of any aerial stuff and he was a career whisperer. You need a vocal, dominating physical presence to really be great as a keeper and that's where he always fell short. David James carved out a reputation as a flapper down the years and to a degree he definitely was, but he came for dozens more balls than the likes of Given ever did and percentage wise you probably do more to help your defence by proactively 'coming for crosses' like that and spilling the odd one now and then than you do by leaving strikers totally unchallenged and being a complete reaction keeper. Hopefully Krul can come to have a better balance to his game. -
Has the comparison between Fish and Johnny Vaughan been made on here before btw? If Johnny Vaughan was looking in the back of a spoon, obviously.
