  8. Davids invited to Newcastle 2007-12-11 08:28:07 Bafana Bafana midfielder Lance Davids has been awarded a week-long trial at English Premiership giants Newcastle United. The Swedish-based player spent the past 10 days with compatriots Benni McCarthy and Aaron Mokoena and had the opportunity to train with Mark Hughes’ Rovers squad and has now been asked to travel to Tyneside for seven days. The 22-year-old is expected to be one of the stars at the 2010 FIFA World Cup after enjoying spells at many European clubs, most notably Arsenal. “Newcastle has sent an invitation to Lance and he will be on trial there all this week,” Djurgardens’ sports director Bosse Andersson told SPORT-Expressen. “He was at Blackburn last week and they were happy with what they saw and now he will spend a week in Newcastle, that is our agreement. “We have not received any offers yet though, these are only trial invitations,” added Andersson. Davids impressed in the Bafana Bafana team this year and is sure to be a key member of the AFCON squad that will travel to Ghana early next year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Davids Anybody seen him play?

  10. and this was the TOP STORY on sky Big Sam staying positive Allardyce not fearing the looming figure of Shearer Last updated: 4th December 2007 Sam Allardyce is confident Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is not being lined up to take his job. Reports have claimed that, should The Magpies lose to Arsenal on Wednesday, Allardyce will be sacked and replaced by Shearer. Newcastle have picked up just one point from the last 15 available, but Allardyce is refusing to panic about the situation. And the ex-Bolton Wanderers boss is optimstic that he is not on the verge of being succeeded by the club's former captain. "If Alan decides to take my job, I hope it'll be when I've decided to leave," Allardyce told reporters. Burden "That will mean I've made the club successful and he'll be taking over a club that I've improved significantly, like what happened with Sammy Lee and Bolton. "If it's the other way then you have to live with it. "I don't particularly see that as a burden because if you lose your job then somebody else is going to take it, whether it's Alan Shearer or whoever. "I know Alan reasonably well and when that situation comes up he's always said that he's not ready. "If that's the case, and somebody wants to employ him down the line after me or whatever, then that's life." Allardyce also moved to quash any suggestions that he has a strained relationship with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley. Bad time He added: "I saw Mike Ashley after the game on Saturday, shook hands and had a good chat with him. "I hope that shows the strength of the relationship we've got. There's no point beating about the bush, yes I'm under the cosh. "Yes, I've got to get results at this club sooner rather than later and, yes, we're having a bad time in terms of results. "But it can be turned around as quick as it's gone bad." Quoted from SkySports
