I agree with pretty much all of this. Not sure how I feel about the National Service bit which isnât to say I disagree, more that I havenât really thought about it much. Iâm not saying this is the reason but it seems a bit ironic that as the world becomes more digital we seem to become more binary. 0 or 1. Make your mind up which are you!!!? I take your point about the recent prevalence of the terms âleftâ and ârightâ. Possibly itâs because the terms Tory and Labour donât mean much outside of the UK and so perhaps those terms got substituted so we could âtranslateâ as we talked more online to people in America, Canada, Aus/NZ etc In defence of the modern ârightâ, they seem at least to me, more willing to allow people with different views to express them. In very simple terms I think the âleftistâ philosophy comes from a good place and from the heart. I think the ârightâ just donât think it works. The leftâs answer to everything is more government but I personally want as little of it as possible.

Disagreeing with people is part of life. How we go about it depends on what kind of people we are. I donât mind a bit of a debate about controversial subjects, they used to have debating societies where you would have to argue a point you didnât necessarily even believe in. itâs all a privilege of living in a free society as far as Iâm concerned. some people seem to take it personally but weâre all adults and Iâm sure weâve all been through far worse

I agree with your point about the bus slogan and always thought it was cheap. unfortunately cheap works and as can be seen from most of the responses to my posts (you and rayvin aside) people like quick cheap messages. Trump used this to great effect and I donât think it helps any of us but.... the Mexican border is porous and drugs come through daily. Sexual assaults are rife and I donât see any sense in trying to not deal with it. Trump just tried to do what so many other previous presidents promised they would do. Again Iâm not endorsing what Trump said, Iâm simply saying that he didnât call all Mexicans rapists.

I mean I can see how this works, I said I preferred to wait for a certain vaccine, that got turned (by a minority) into âyouâre an anti vaxxer â Leaving the EU became the more emotive (by some) âleaving Europeâ itâs tempting to do but not very helpful

I agree. And after that quote, you would be happy to report that as âTrump says all Mexicans are rapistsâ would you?

So youâre trying to use the fact that he clearly never said what you claim he said to âprove me wrongâ. Ok

Are we talking about Clinton or Trump here?

Well for a start heâs only referring to the people crossing the border illegally, not all Mexicans, which is what the media tried to spin it as. He just didnât say it. Now Iâm not condoning the way he made his point at all, just highlighting that the media hyped up stories and people who already disliked Trump took it as gospel. The southern border is clearly a problem and as I said before Trumpâs policy was no different to any other previous presidentâs. As soon as Trump was in office that policy somehow became racist.

There are a lot of legal immigrants who feel really aggrieved by the idea of people âjumping the queueâ. I get that plenty of people are decent and just desperate but equally there are lots of problems that come over that border, drugs, child trafficking etc. A wall probably is needed IMO and it doesnât strike me as terribly responsible to take an extreme open border position just to counter Trump which Biden, Harris, AOC etc do I think there are more than a few people who would like to see Hillary in jail. Iâm not exactly sure what for although there are some pretty unpleasant rumours about the Haiti money not to mention the supposed Clinton âbody countâ The storming of the Capitol is a really weird episode. I donât really know what to make of it. Trump tweeted not to act irresponsibly having seemingly hinted that he wanted people to do exactly that. I canât remember the exact sequence of events but he was then banned from social media. The security footage from inside shows some very mild behaviour from the invaders. It wasnât good obviously but compared to the weeks of rioting and looting, this time seemingly encouraged by the democrats, it was pretty tame. A lot more people died during those riots too, including David Dorn who died trying to protect a business from being looted. The media barely mentioned him. I do think there was something suspicious about the way numbers came in on election night. Any investigations being carried out are rather like the ones into Boris Johnsonâs lockdown transgressions, ie likely carried out by people with a certain outcome in mind. My overall position in all of this is that the corruption in US politics is immeasurable. The âstimulusâ bills are vast and impossible to read, with such flagrant abuse. The media is polarised to a grotesque level. Big pharma has a dreadful track record and Trump came to power with his âownâ money and appealed to people who thought he could do something about it. Having his own direct form of communication through Twitter completely bypassed all the filters which clearly are probably needed with someone like Trump. but overall I donât think his aims were evil in any way i believe he loves America and there is probably not much wrong with that in the scheme of things. In other words he was probably the wrong answer to the right question

It was a long time ago now but as I remember it was the seemingly sudden imposition of the new narrative (sorry for the wanky terms) on the community. Some of the people protesting were hell yeah I love the KKK and some were just normal people who felt that their culture was being violated. So to bring it back to a more relevant comparison, like Dadâs Army types defending a Churchill statue alongside National Front types.
