  1. It now appears, from that last paragraph to me anyway, that they're trying to get us all to think the same.

I think you're over doing it a bit there.

"The departure of Mr. Jimenez must not, however, be used as a smokescreen, nor must his departure be a sacrifice that allows the current regime to maintain their hold on Newcastle United Football Club."

Are we not allowed to form our own opinions on what this means? Most of us don't even know what he's done, that's right or wrong, so for them to try and push us into thinking their way is a bit odd.

  2. "Newcastle United Supporters Club today welcomes the departure of Vice President (Player Recruitment) Tony Jimenez from NUFC with an air of cautious optimism.

As one of the key antagonists behind the recent traumatic events at NUFC that have led directly to the club’s current instability, we believe that Mr. Jimenez’ continued employment at the club had long since become untenable.

With the club currently up for sale it seemed increasingly obvious that Mr. Jimenez’ role at NUFC was effectively redundant and we are pleased, therefore, that he is no longer on the club’s payroll.

The committee of NUSC would like to express our cautious optimism at today’s announcement and our hope that it can act as a precursor to the departures of other undesirable elements of the board followed by a quick sale of the club to a party who has the club’s best interests at heart.

The departure of Mr. Jimenez must not, however, be used as a smokescreen, nor must his departure be a sacrifice that allows the current regime to maintain their hold on Newcastle United Football Club."

    Jesus wept.

  3. I was 5, it was Newcastle v Ipswich, we won 2-1 through two Mick Quinn goals. I can remember it because it was the unveiling of the Milburn Stand and Jackie's wife officially opened it.

Was just looking through a box of old baby photos, etc. up my mam's and found this. Never knew I had it. Great memory!

  4. Pizza Hut to become Pasta Hut

    pasta-hut-signs_1004642c.jpg

The chain, which launched its first restaurant in Britain in 1973, is replacing its pizza-focused menu with a menu consisting mainly of pasta dishes.

This means that as well as the traditional deluxe pizzas, customers will also have the option of ordering more sophisticated dishes such as tomato and mozzarella mezzaluna and prawn and crayfish arrabiata.

The re-branding is part of an £18 million revamp package designed to attract new customers and move it into more upmarket terrain.

As part of the revamp, the chain is temporarily naming 30 of its branches Pasta Hut.

Pizza Hut boss Alasdair Murdoch said: "We've really been on a journey for four or five years, trying to make our food better, offer more variety and quality for the customers.

"Now we're putting our food above the parapet. We're trying to say to people: 'Yes, we're great at pizzas, but we're also great at salads and pasta.' Pasta is around 3 or 4 per cent of our sales. I'm very sure in a couple of weeks' time that will be 10 per cent."

Mr Murdoch said they have also upgraded their distinctive salad bar and have made improvements in areas including the nutrition and quality of ingredients in their pizzas and pastas.

A statement from the company also says that the restaurant plans to sneak 'hidden vegetables in kids' meals'.

The re-naming is for a trial period only and customers can offer their thoughts on the new-look restaurants at Pastahut.co.uk.

The company will be keen to hear feedback from customers since the decision to change such a big, household name is potentially a very risky one.

In 1998, Kellogg's briefly changed the name of Coco Pops to Choco Krispies in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and South Africa so that they could be in line with Germany and Spain, where it is known by this name. However, after falling sales and a telephone poll in which the British public voted, its name was reverted in 1999.

Another classic British brand Opal Fruits were renamed Starburst in 1998, the name under which they had been exported to the US in the seventies. The original name is now set to return in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the change.

Cadbury reintroduced the Wispa last year after an internet campaign which also involved protesters storming a stage at the Glastonbury festival.

  5. What is all this sh*t I'm seeing about Pizza Hut being renamed Pasta Hut?

Damn do-gooder idiots gone insane. If you want pasta you go to a nice Italian restaurant not take your lass to f**king Pizza/Pasta Hut.

Pizza Hut is for pizzas! Its not rocket science. Whoever is in their Marketing team wants shot!

  6. Although the Fair's Cup wasn't iirc officially sanctioned by Uefa it counts as a major trophy on a par with the old Uefa Cup imo (i.e. pre-CL expansion). You just need to look at some of the sides we played in it (not just the year we won). The one city rule is an anomoly that worked in our favour but it was still a bigger competition than something like the League Cup. I wouldn't sniff a League Cup win for us either mind you.

Being fair, to some extent I'd agree with you Alex, but the overiding thing for me would be that the teams who finished higher than you, and weren't allowed to enter, reduced the overall quality of the competition as compared with the UEFA cup.

Does this mean we get to belittle the old European Cup since you won it 4 times at a time when huge clubs such as Malmo graced the competition, and at a time the UEFA Cup was stronger as you got more clubs from the major nations in it back then?

  7. Whilst I hope this is simply a case of getting off to a bad start and that things will calm down and the individuals take a more measured approach, I'm worried that last press release has already done damage... The idea of boycotting adidas has made its way onto what is perhaps the most popular football kit website:

    http://www.footballshirtculture.com/200810...ott-adidas.html

Other people are pissing themselves laughing and I can't really blame them!

Yeah, I saw that before. Doesn't make us look good at all does it?

  8. How much are tickets then?

    <_<

for peterborough wor £20 for an adult bt thats no excuse, even if everton were charging £100!

lets face it we all know who have the most loyal fans

    September, 2000.

    Newcastle 2-0 Leyton Orient = 37,284 (Worthington Cup, 2nd Round, 1st Leg)

Leeds 6-0 Besiktas = 34,435 (Champions League Group Stage)

  9. 1. Someone like Aston Villa to finish in the top 4, preferably ahead of Liverpool.

    2. Spurs to go down...obviously.

    3. Leeds to miss out on promotion again and be left to slug it out in League One for another season.

    4. Roy Keane to leave Sunderland.

    5. The media to stop with this sudden Rory Delap long-throw wankfest. It's not as if he's only just emerged in the Premiership ffs.

  10. Cost us the UEFA Cup with his pettiness. To be fair he had the right idea, was just way out of his depth. We needed a left-back, we got Babayaro, needed a CB, we got Boumsong, needed strength in midfield so he got Parker & Emre, needed a striker so got Owen, needed a winger so got Luque...at the time I think we were pretty pleased with each one at the time. Just f*cked up big-time though.

  11. Must be absolutely horrible having owners who are only willing to give you £50-60m to spend on the likes of Torres, Keane, Babel, Mascherano, etc and overlooking you reaching a Champions League Final and Semi-Final.

    The b*stards.

  12. I see people's reservations regarding the writing to sponsors, but imo it is tactically sound.

Unless Ashley calls our bluff. Because that's what it is. If he doesn't sell there's very little we can do unless we go the whole hog and permanently fuck the club. Lose-lose situation.

I don't think he really wants to sell.

We might have to initially 'fuck the club' to win.

How exactly does that work though?

  13. “Mike Ashley is not acting quickly enough to end his disastrous relationship with our club.

That's the worst part of it all for me. Seriously, what the f*ck?
