    Hmm. :nufc:

    Have Newcastle been ‘merked’?

The man behind the TV Classic Rio’s World Cup Wind-ups claims he is heading up a Nigerian consortium to buy Newcastle. Chris Nathaniel, whose NVA agency produced what it called the “hugely successful TV spin-off”, reckons he has got together a group of wealthy Nigerians who are willing to pay £350 million for Newcastle.

Nathaniel told Nigerian website kickoff. com: “I have been working hard to get wealthy and football loving Nigerian entrepreneurs to buy the club since the owner Mike Ashley indicated his willingness to sell the club to the person, people or entrepreneurs that can meet the £400 million selling price of the club.

“Right now I am happy to tell you that well meaning Nigerians have responded and the consortium of Nigerian entrepreneurs has so far contributed £350 million to buy the club but the club boss, Ashley stood his ground that he won’t sell the club until the money is raised to the asking price of £400 million.

“So what that means is that we need to raise another £50 or £100 million pounds to shut the door behind the other top Arab companies that are also interested in the club. The Arab companies have also indicated interest and made offer but they haven’t met the asking price too.”

Is this for real? Could Nigeria, rich in oil wealth don’t forget, be about to buy out Newcastle? Could Obafemi Martins be playing international football, kind of, every week? It’s Newcastle, after all, so anything’s possible. But Nathaniel has got previous.

Wind-Ups, as if you don’t remember, was Rio’s take on the MTV Punked format. Essentially Beadle’s About for Generation X, it was a series of set-ups where a secret camera filmed Peter Crouch laughing at a midget and David Beckham jumping out of a moving car in Moss Side.

Just as it got serious, Rio would jump out with the camera crew and shout: “Wazza!/Becks!/Crouchy! You’ve been merked!”

Rio has supposedly grown up since then, but Ashley had better watch out regardless. His reputation could sink any further. But being outsmarted by Rio Ferdinand may just constitute a whole new low.

  3. Well i hope you're not the one verifying the facts for NUSC, as I always ridicule HTT, no matter what he says. However, i dont even know what that refers to.

Seriously? thats your argument as to why people shouldnt ridicule you when they disagree? :nufc:

The point being i've not ridiculed anyone's opinion on this at all and was defending the right to express an opinion. I've argued coherently about some points i believe to be true and thats it. You have lumped me in with something ON has apparently done without me being aware of what it is you're talking about. Its that attention to detail that worried me if you are going to be the one 'establishing the facts'.

I take the piss out of HTT all the time, i've not once ridiculed his opinion on this or many other issues relating to it.

You can talk anyway, what a fucking hypocrite!

Can I just ask what I'm supposed to have done here?! I think I've let it known I think Ashley and the "regime" failed and should go, but feel disappointed and a bit p*ssed off with Keegan all the same.

  4. The insistance of people on giving Shola another chance, another fresh start depresses me

It's not a case of him getting a "fresh start", he's our 5th choice striker imo, 3 of our first 4 are out, so he's next in line...

  5. I know you hate Shola, but to pick a player who couldn't force his way ahead of Ormerod & Mellor in a side in the relegation-zone in the Championship ahead of Ameobi is a bit much...

  6. Really think he should get a managerial job somewhere else. In the next couple of weeks it's more than likely either the Motherwell or Southampton jobs will become available, he should go for either one.

  7. Roberto Baggio

    :icon_lol:

I remember that.... Douggie Hall wandering into the San Siro and announcing that he was here to sign Baggio for Newcastle...

    Those were the days..

Was it not the Stadio del Alpi? Sure it was Milan he moved to about a month after he tried that. B)

Given his love for goalscoring Belgian centre-backs, van Buyten. :)
