don't think 350 is enough on this surface. suspect we're heading for 4-0 or a draw

Agreed. A draw is the most likely outcome here unless the pitch degrades enough for Lyon to trouble your batsmen. Be happy with a draw.

Most of which he opened in England against the duke ball. His average of 47 for an openener who has played half his tests in English conditions is up there with the best ever.

As an openererer he has excelled, credit where it is due. The best English batsman since Wally Hammond.

Cook, Root, Stokes, Moeen, Bairstow can all bat big.

I think broad and Anderson will almost certainly still be leading the attack in two years time. They’re both completely different bowlers at home. Your bowling attack is a threat - if they can all stay fit - but starc aside, can the others get it swinging?

Your batting lineup looks entirely unconvincing against the moving ball. I’d even include smith there as it exposed his weird technique. When there no lateral movement he’s clearly the best batter in the world right now. So that’ll be a big test for him, to prove those doubters wrong. Wouldn’t surprise me if he did so tbh. He hasn’t got much else to prove

    Moeen

Anderson is old (cricketing terms) and has played so many matches. Needs to get through another two summers. Unlikely man but if he did he wouldn't be so good.  Cummins will become our premier bowler in two years time and yes he can swing them and move them off the seam.

Our batting lineup has holes in it, I have never denied it, but yours has more, regardless of where you play.

You could say the same about us losing the best all rounder in the world. Still think we’d have lost even if stokes had been fit for reasons already discussed in this thread. Don’t think it would have necessarily been after three tests though.

But yes, take away a couple of your best players and an ordinary test side looks even more more average - particularly if playing away from home conditions. Still think your claim that you’ll be competitive next time you visit us looks hugely optimistic.

Stokes, Wood, it doesn't matter, it wouldn't have made a difference. Your lot are shit on fast wickets. This Melbourne pitch is flat and slow. Nothing in it and it suits your lot.

My claim that we will be competitive is valid. You have ageing players whose eligibility remains a mystery. We have a bowling attack to get 20 wickets. We just need to find a few batsman that can compliment Smith and Warner. I don't think you have batsmen that can bat for more than an hour tbh.

So Australia lose starc and Cummins has a niggle and suddenly their attack doesn’t look all that clever. Luckily for them, their three main fast bowlers were all fit for the first three tests. It doesn’t happen very often but they’re a completely different side when they’re all fit - and rather ordinary when not.

Nice to see a good partnership from Cook and root. Shame it came three tests too late.

So take two of the best bowlers out from any team in the world - one through injury and one playing with Delhi belly. What happens? It isn't rocket science.

I'm glad you thought us as superior though. ;)

Cook is playing for his test career, and so is Broad. I have a feeling they were read the riot act; Perform or fuck off forever.

  6. Anderson and Broad playing ok in this game. Tbf Anderson has tried the entire series. Bit of bad luck for Curran not to get Warner. Probably the highlight of the day that no ball.

Captain Smith, with one hand, again a class above. He is always one step ahead.

  7. He's a gambler and has been all his life, he's now gambling that the club stays up. He'll want a profit so he won't sell if relegated obviously given the worth of the club would just about halve, but he'll gamble in the hope that the club bounces back up like the last two attempts with minimal cost of course, and that is no guarantee. He is a cunt.

But I should add, the general message is positive. It will get done in other words, just not soon.

Stavely has the fat cunt in her pocket, it will get done only under her terms now man. The offer made while we were sitting well wasn't too much off what he was asking but now that the threat of relegation looms it throws things off completely. What a silly cunt he is

Watching the BBL this morning, it looks like we should be looking to develop Archer. Bowling at 90+ with ease. Apparently he's an all rounder too.

Funny hairstyle but good bowler. Has he pledged allegiance to any country yet though?

  10. 4 minutes ago, David Kelly said:

Between us and you?  Possibly, we have been shocking in our last two tours (Australia and India) but we were good in SA.  Didn't you get hammered off Sri Lanka though?

The Stokes situation is been massive for us in this tour though.  Had we not had it and the fitness issues we've had we would have been much more competitive I believe.  Of course that can never be proven.

That was last year, but I'll give you that. ;)

  11. 1 minute ago, David Kelly said:

My whole point from the start was that no team is looking good away from home at the minute.  So the fact we've looked worse than you in Australia doesn't go against that argument at all.

Yes, but England are the worst a way for home. Agreed?

  12. 1 minute ago, David Kelly said:

Looking at this series you would appear to be but overall no I don't really think so.  I'd say we're pretty even, especially when Stokes is back in.  I think we will both continue to struggle away from conditions that suit us.

    So yes... but no.

By no means am I suggesting you shouldn't revel in your win, it's fully deserved.  I'm just saying I'm not convinced you have the makings of a great team with the players you have at the moment.  You have a good bowling attack, the worlds best batsman and another who is top class.  You've got something to build on but the others who are playing at the moment haven't impressed me over a while now.

But we are in a better position than you?

he's only played 3 tests. got a 50 in each innings of his debut away in india, including a classy 80 odd. his tekkers looked the real deal, btu then he fractured his finger and suffered a poor run of form. he's only 20 so i suppose they were thinking it might be soon to throw him in to an ashes tour after a difficult year followed a promising start. there's a lot of hope he's cook's natural successor though. he looks the sort of player that can occupy the crease and bat for long periods. i suspect broad's time might be nearing its end, but anderson is the currently top of the ICC bowling rankings and has got more to give, despite his advancing years. he's got his eye on 600+ test wickets.

i tjhink broad has enough wickets in the bank that they might give him a final chance, if he doesn't decide to call it a day. you could say the same for cook tbh.

Sounds like a wristy player, Hameed.

Broad is finished. Really, he's finished.

  15. 22 minutes ago, David Kelly said:

As I said, I do rate Warner and I'm well aware Renshaw hasn't played but up until this series he had been opening for you for the last year so I mentioned him as part of your squad.  And I said the Marsh's have had good knocks but I've watched them a few times before and they don't impress me at all.

Like I said, I wouldn't get any more excited about stuffing us here than I would about beating the West Indies.  We have been poor and have missed one of the most important players in our team.  Your lot will be full of confidence and I'm sure that will help you going forward, but other than Smith and Warner your batsmen are ordinary especially when they aren't playing in the conditions they know well.  Maybe they will improve over the next couple of years but I can't see that any of them are particularly exciting prospects.

Right. So let's wait until we get closer to our tour over to yours then before we shoot from the hip.

    @Ken

i think haseeb hameed looks like he has the technique to make it as an opener. the selectors wanted him to play in this series but he suffered with form and injury this year. they probably see him, and now stoneman, aroudn our top 3, with cook - if he continue. keaton jennings scored a century on debut but i'm not convinced he is up to opening in tests.

anderson is still a magician with the ball at home. he's always been a naturally fit guy and doesn't rely on lung bursting effort for that extra yard of pace. it wouldn't surprise me if he's still going next time you tour here. i think cook and broad are more likely to call it a day by then, if the selectors don't take the decision out of their hands

I haven't heard of this Hameed. A player that may work his way up in the next two years?

Anderson is Anderson, but time and age do not forgive.

Broad shouldn't have toured. Wrong attitude. Outplayed by Overton.
