Is it low? £91.1m is higher than we've ever paid i think...£40m more than our last reported wage bill following the cuts. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oNlATJE_aFg/Tuhq9uXZnJI/AAAAAAAAEvc/cgiRomCyc3U/s400/17%2BTottenham%2BWages%2Bto%2BTurnover.jpg £70k cap is lower than other clubs, but more than our £50k. Thinking about it I remember reading that they have high incentive based contracts, which would explain why their wage bill jumped nearly £25 million the year they played champions league.

They've played together for 4 games when you take out cameos. Stoke, Man City, Man u and Chelsea. Of those I'd say Guthrie might have been been the better player against Stoke. I had Guthrie as the better player against all of those apart from Man City, I'd throw the Fulham game in there too as they both played the majority of. I thought Guthrie was man of the match in the Everton and QPR games too which Cabaye didn't look particularly impressive in before he went off. Maybe JawS is right and without Tiote next to him Cabaye plays more of a subdued role but I would prefer to see what Guthrie looks like this season next to Tiote for a few games rather than watching him walk away for free in the summer. -
How do Spurs keep their wage bill so low if the likes of Bassong are on £50k? The only real success we've had in the best part of 15 years was under Robson and I can't think of many benchsquad players that would have earned big money, the squad was made up of promising youngsters or dependable cheap cover.

Nolan did say in the middle of last season that he could see the way the club was heading that he could see the day coming where he wouldn't be needed anymore and he wouldn't want to stay to be a bit part player, I doubt he thought it would all happen this soon though Ultimately it comes down to us not being in a position where we can afford players on £50k per week warming the bench when everyone is fit.

Barton's a strange situation, on the one hand Pardew made it clear that he wanted to keep him but then when he was slagging off Ashley when we were doing well Pard's came out with a comment about him being positive in the dressing room 80% of the time which suggests he could be a pain to manage I'm surprised at how fondly he's looked apon by some of our fans though considering we got 5 good months out of him in 4 years while criticising our attitudes and a stint in prison, I think it was the Blackburn game under Allardyce where he was awful but couldn't be subbed as forhe would have got so much grief. I agree with Chez that they will look to strengthen wide right again in the summer, either Hoilett or Barnetta would be my guess.

Sarcasm is all that remains as I've pointed out that Guthrie provides none of the goals and none of the assists Cabaye does and obviously that's what we need without Raylor (our other top assist provider) and alongside Tiote (who does neither). You can repeat your opinion that Guthrie has played better here and there, and we could list the games where Cabaye did better (it's not worth me repeating others here though). I could also add the fact that Cabaye was an ever present in our 11 game unbeaten run and has only played in 5 defeats all season despite playing 21 games wheras we've lost 4 of the 10 games Guthrie played. But it's pointless, because it's clear to anyone with even a passing interest that Cabaye is just better than Guthrie and for someone to claim otherwise and then call others contrary is irony in the extreme. So he should have more assists, he's the main set piece taker in the side and has been all season. Stats will tell me Nolan offered more in terms of goal threat which is why I judge it on what I see and not what Wikipedia tells me. Your whole argument is Cabaye gas been better by association, that we were better in the first 11 games when he was a regular so that means he's been the better performer this season, all it tells me is that we miss Tiote when he doesn't play. I've asked you to name what games he's outperformed Guthrie in when they've played together yet you can't, I've also mentioned that he's far from impressive when he hasn't got Tiote in there to hold his hand either but again no comment on that, your whole point seems tone he's been more impressive because he's Yohan Cabaye. End of story and no debating it. As for Ant threatening to ban people because he doesn't agree with them, give your head a shake man. -

I was basing it on what you posted. I'm sure all the top scouts have noticed the Guthminator and look forward to the 8 figure offers for him in the summer. It seems unless you're being contrary or sarcastic you can't debate football to save your life. -

Yet Cabaye's last 2 games before he was banned for kicking an opponent in the face were a 5-2 battering by Fulham and an awful 1-0 defeat against Brighton, in both games Guthrie had a better game than him in my opinion. So when Cabaye has an off day, the whole team suffers. When Guthrie plays to his best it has little impact on the result. I'd put my faith in Cabaye being hungry to put in a performance at home after missing a few games, however he might have underperformed on the road before his ban. What are you basing the first statement on? Cabaye was a passenger against Everton and Guthrie was the best player on the pitch for me, then you've got the QPR game where Cabaye went oft injured and Guthrie dominated the midfield. The key is Tiote, Cabaye has had the luxury of playing plenty of games with him and they've been excellent, however take Tiote away and he's not been that great at all IMO and has been outperformed by Guthrie of late, who hasn't had the Tiote luxury this season. -

was beginning to think it's just me, even if you don't think Cabaye has been much better than Guthrie has been playing currently, he still has moments where he pulls something out of the bag that Guthrie will frankly never do he's currently playing well, it just happens that him being on his game is the equivalent of cabaye having average games imo. There is no chance cabaye won't get given a start Tiote/Cabaye/Ba/Cisse will all start without question tbh What moments are you thinking about? While you're at it, what games have they been on the pitch together and you could say Cabaye has been clearly the better player? -

I just don't see it, what games this season has Cabaye been this class player that has been so much better than Guthrie? Villa away springs to mind but that's about it. In fact was Villa the last time he put in anywhere near a man of the match display? -

Going off this seasons form Cabaye hasn't been a step up on Guthrie though, I think they've been about on par to be honest and like I said to alex the other day, if Guthrie had came in in the summer from a French club we would be raving about him on this seasons performances. -
Precisely. Norwich City make a profit of £2m with a turnover of £38m. Manchester United make a loss of £10m with a turnover of £350m. Who are in a better position to be to afford the wages of Leo Messi, and who can barely afford to keep Grant Holt. That's not really a great comparison to be fair. Is it better to make £90 million and break even or £100 million and a loss of £20 million?

Hopefully, it will depend who wins the cups etc at to this years qualification I think.
-
Commercially Spurs made less in 2009 and 2010 than they did in 2008, last years went up but how much of that is down to the extra made in corporate hospitality on CL nights I don't know.

I don't agree with that, how do you maintain a happy squad if you don't give anyone the chance to earn their place? Reminds me of Robson telling Bowyer he would still be dropped for Dyer despite having a great game, must he terrible for the morale of squad players. -
Villa's next 2 games are away to Wigan and Blackburn, if they don't pick up at least 2 points then they will be dragged into it. The problem they've got is most clubs look to their home games to get the crowd behind them to help them get the points but the Villa crowd are on McLeish's back.

Wigan, Wolves and Blackburn IMO. I'd love to see QPR drop down though.

Sorry mate, but I must say that Cabaye is a much better player. I agree that Guthrie has done well, but Cabaye really is key to our team. Without him, Ba and Cisse got totally starved at spuds. I don't think he is on this seasons form, lets not forget Cabaye played in both of the Fulham and Brighton no shows where he was outperformed by Guthrie on both occasions, he also dominated the QPR midfield when Cabaye went off injured in the game before. Tiote is the key player we're missing, not Cabaye. -

Why would he do that? Cabaye hasn't been injured, he's trained for nearly a month now without kicking a ball competitively. He'll be raring to go I don't think there's been much between them this season and I think Pardew will keep Guthrie as a reward for his good form. -
Selling Carroll was basically a seasons good run in the CL money. It's how Spurs stayed in contact with the breakaway group: Berabtov and Carrick. Or like this season where they've made a massive profit on player trading, something like £25 million.
-
I've read it was worth £12 million to Fulham.

Great article that.
