9. LIVERPOOL star Craig Bellamy has been charged with assaulting a teenage girl in an alleged nightclub bust-up. The Wales striker, who has just signed a £6m four-year deal with the Premiership side, is facing two counts of assault after a 19-year-old from Barry claimed the player struck her in a Cardiff club. Bellamy, 26, was charged by South Wales Police on Friday morning, a month after his glittering wedding to childhood sweetheart Claire Jansen. If he is found guilty, he could receive a maximum sentence of six months in prison. The multi-millionaire dad-of-two was surrounded by his family and friends when he tied the knot in a low-key ceremony near his £2m home in St Brides-super-Ely, near Cardiff. But Bellamy, whose contract with Liverpool FC began yesterday, was charged after returning from honeymoon as he answered his bail in connection with the alleged assault. And just hours after he was charged, we snapped Bellamy parking his black Bentley Continental sports car with personalised number plates on double yellow lines outside The Cornerstone pub in City Road, Cardiff. The pint-sized footballer is also due in court this month for driving without insurance and failing to produce an insurance certificate. He has denied the charges which relate to an incident last November. Last night, Bellamy's agent Steve Horner said he "had nothing to say" in connection with the alleged assault at Number 10 in the trendy Mill Lane area of Cardiff. The former Blackburn Rovers striker was arrested by police in March after a 19-year-old girl claimed he struck her at the bar and restaurant during a night out on Sunday, February 5. The alleged victim complained of suffering bruising to her arm and neck. She told two passing police officers about the alleged assault inside the club, a favourite with celebrities in Cardiff. Police went into Number 10 to get CCTV footage and witness statements. The girl spent three hours making a statement at a police station. According to reports, Bellamy - who earns £50,000 a week - was partying with a friend when there was an altercation between him and the girl as she was walking through a narrow part of the club's VIP section. Bellamy later voluntarily went to Cardiff Central Police Station where he was arrested and released on bail. Last night, South Wales Police confirmed Bellamy had been charged following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service. A police spokeswoman said: "A 26-year-old man has been charged with two counts of Section 39 assault. He was charged after answering his bail on Friday morning. No court date has yet been fixed." Bellamy was arrested along with another man in connection with the allegation. Police say no action has yet been taken against the other male. The player, who was born in Rumney, Cardiff, and returns regularly to visit his parents Angela and Doug, has already been told to shed his bad boy image by Liverpool FC. Manager Rafa Benitez warned him he will be measured against fellow Welsh goal hero Ian Rush - Liverpool's all-time top goal-scorer with an awesome 346 strikes. But despite his reputation off the field, fellow Welsh soccer great Neville Southall believes Liverpool FC will be the "making of Bellamy". He said: "People keep referring to Craig's bad reputation but he didn't misbehave at Blackburn last season because he respected Mark Hughes. He has recently got married so perhaps he is maturing as a man. This move to Liverpool could be the making of him." Bellamy's decision to join the Reds has been welcomed by skipper Steven Gerrard, despite a series of rows on the pitch between the pair. "I've had a few arguments with Craig myself on the pitch a few times, but funnily enough, that's something I like about him," said Gerrard. Bellamy's fiery temper has also been noted by his dad, who has said: "He can be a bit of a hothead at times. Yes, we know he can be feisty. But what would Craig be without that feistiness in his character?" A spokesperson for Liverpool FC was unavailable for comment last night.
10. Marseille are set to step up their interest in Jean-Alain Boumsong. New L'OM coach Albert Emon is a long-time admirer of the French international and is looking to fill a gap in his defensive ranks after agreeing to sell veteran Frederic Dehu. Emon is a long-time member of Marseille's coaching staff and was a driving force behind the club's bid to sign Boumsong from Auxerre three years ago. United are keen to sell Boumsong, who fell out of first-team favour late last season after one too many high-profile errors, to raise transfer funds. The 26-year-old would prefer a return to France, with Lens and Paris St Germain reported to also be interested in him, but Newcastle's asking price could prove a stumbling block. United are looking to recoup at least £3 million of the £8 million they invested in Boumsong just 18 months ago. But the strength of Emon's interest, along with United's excellent working relationship with Marseille general manager Pape Diouf, could see a deal pushed through.
11. Newcastle are set to be offered a cut-price deal for former target Aldo Duscher. But it is remains to be seen whether new United boss Glenn Roeder will be keen on the Deportivo La Coruna midfielder pursued by his predecessor, Graeme Souness. Deportivo coach Joaquin Caparros this week reluctantly told his board to cash in on Duscher in order to raise transfer funds. Manchester United and West Ham also have a long-standing interest in the tough-tackling 27-year-old.
12. Newcastle are ready to abandon their interest in Dirk Kuyt - and launch a bold bid for his fellow Dutchman, Ruud van Nistelrooy. United have gone cool on Kuyt after he failed to impress Alan Shearer during Holland's abortive World Cup campaign. With Feyenoord quoting a price of £14 million for him, the verdict at St James's Park is that 25-year-old Kuyt (right) is too big a gamble. And so Newcastle are now preparing to make their move for Van Nistelrooy, one of the Premiership's most successful ever strikers. The former PSV Eindhoven star is demanding talks with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson this week aimed at booking his passage out of Old Trafford. And although they face serious competition from top Spanish and Italian clubs, Newcastle will go all out in a bid to convince Van Nistelrooy (above) to stay in England. With Shearer newly retired and Michael Owen sidelined for the rest of the year, United face a desperate shortage of striking options. But with James Milner returning from his loan spell at Aston Villa, the Magpies are still only seeking two new forwards.
13. Great result for Murray..
14. Shall we attempt to pick teams before tha actual date so we do not have everyone turning up with a toon shirt on?
15. Glenn Roeder has hailed the spirt of Nobby Solano after the South American ace simply shrugged off the trauma of a near-fatal summer car crash in Peru. Solano somehow climbed out of the wreckage of his vehicle in Lima with just a few scrapes last month, after complaining of jet-lag in his native Peru when he headed home for a break. However, Solano breezed back into pre-season training with Newcastle without a care in the world with Roeder more than impressed. He said today: "It has basically been the same old Nobby, which is fantastic. He has been full of enthusiasm and still has that great willingness to do well for this club. "He is a player that everybody still admires and when we do warm-ups in training he always does them properly and using the right technique. "Nobby is a good example to the younger players, and if you ever need somebody to demonstrate something he is the man." Solano re-joined team-mates after six weeks' break, but will be considered one of Roeder's key men in United's two-legged InterToto Cup tie against Lillestrom or Keflavik on July 15. And even though the former Boca Juniors ace is considered one of the more experienced squad members at Newcastle, Roeder revealed Solano is still as keen as mustard and can't wait to get started again after a successful return to Tyneside last term. Solano, 31, was sold to Aston Villa under Sir Bobby Robson, but made a return to United in a deal that saw James Milner head the other way on loan. Now the pair could find themselves in the same team together in United's first European tie. Roeder had high praise for Solano's approach to life at St James' Park. He added: "Nobby is simply a man who is in love with football. "And I know when he does retire from the game he will miss football very much." However, Roeder does not expect the Peruvian, who is his own country's version of Wayne Rooney or David Beckham, to remain out of the game for long and expects him to go into coaching after when his playing days are over. He said: "Nobby is a big, big name in Peru. "And it would not be a surprise to me if he ends up being the national coach of Peru. "When we have had discussions about coaching he has always shown an interest and I think it is what he wants to do after he finishes playing." Solano has always proved to be a popular figure in a black-and-white shirt but revelled in Roeder's more attacking brand of football after Graeme Souness was sacked. Roeder's emphasis on wing play was meat and drink for Nobby and the Toon boss acknowledged it is that type of player the Geordies want to see. He said: "Nobby is a good example of what our supporters appreciate. "Firstly they want to see the team win, but after that I think they always want to see two or three special players like Solano. "Emre is another one like Nobby and he can entertain when the ball is at his feet. "They catch the imagination of the fans."
16. Glenn Roeder could face a decision between rushing into the transfer market or starting Newcastle United's Intertoto Cup campaign short on strikers for the second year running. Shola Ameobi is facing a race to be fit for the third round, first leg tie at St James's Park on July 15 and without him Roeder would have only Albert Luque and James Milner, who have both played much of their football out wide in recent seasons, available at centre-forward. Similar problems last year left Newcastle without a recognised striker on the bench for their opening game in the competition. Ameobi was unable to train this week, a legacy of the hip problem which dogged his previous two campaigns, and Roeder is loathe to rush players back too early. That will be sorely tested with Michael Owen due to fly out on Monday for a consultation with Dr Richard Steadman in Colorado over his ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments and the Gosforth-born pair of Alan Shearer and Michael Chopra - who has joined Cardiff City - also out of the equation. Roeder, however, is determined to handle Ameobi's return properly. "After seven weeks off you can't just put someone through a game of football at this level," he said. "There's a minimum amount of time a player needs and any manager who plays someone who is injured needs their head examined. "As far as July 15 goes, I'd have to say Shola's touch-and-go. If he doesn't return (to training) next week it would be asking a lot for him to play." The 24-year-old avoided the need for another operation on his hip by having an injection. Shola only had an injection two weeks ago," explained Roeder. "What he's feeling is a little bit of needle soreness because of the probing around they did." With so little time until United host Lillestr?m or Keflavik, bringing in a suitable striker could be difficult. Many of the forwards Roeder will have been considering are at or recently returned from the World Cup which, in Roeder's mind, rules them out for July 15. The Londoner believes World Cup players should get a family holiday after the tournament. And United are the first Premiership team back in training. By the time he returns from Colorado in a fortnight, Owen expects to be much clearer about the timetable for his recovery. "As soon as we get the operation out of the way we will be looking forward to a fixed date or a fixed time to come back," he told the club's website. "I'll go out there on Monday, be examined on Tuesday, and have the operation as soon as possible." Roeder's more immediate concern is his side's opponents in this season's competition. He will be in Norway today to watch Lillestr?m play Icelandic side Keflavik in the first leg of their second round tie. The hosts are favourites but, although their coaching staff will be well known to United, the players will not. Lillestrom are managed by former Manchester City striker Uwe Rosler, who retired from playing in 2003 to successfully fight cancer. His fellow coaches are Gunnar Halle and ex-Middlesbrough striker Jan Age Fjortoft.

19. I dunno it`ll probably kill him having a "sweaty sock" crashing at his place for one night let alone two... 154818 Two days of Ritchie?! My fucking eardrums will be non-existent by the time he leaves. I don't think it should be a problem like if you wanted to come down on the Friday? Can we have special "quiet times" though? 154819 To be fair, I'm not half as bad now that I am tee-total...
20. I dunno it`ll probably kill him having a "sweaty sock" crashing at his place for one night let alone two...
21. 12 O'Clock will be a push for some of us travelling a distance to get there, or at least it certainly will be for me. If I have any delays at all I imagine I could struggle to make it.
22. MIDDLESBROUGH are prepared to let Mark Viduka leave the Riverside for £3million. New Boro boss Gareth Southgate is reviewing his squad and is now ready to cash in on Viduka's starring role in Australia's run to the last 16 at the World Cup. Viduka, 30, has one year left on his £45,000-a-week contract and Southgate is reluctant to hand the striker a multi-million pound extension. A £4.5m signing from Leeds two years ago, Viduka (right) said before leaving for Germany this summer that he faced an uncertain future, despite scoring 16 goals last season during Boro's march to the UEFA Cup Final. Those concerns have proved to be warranted because the Teessiders are now encouraging offers for him. Viduka would prefer to stay in the Premiership because he and his family are settled in North Yorkshire. Potential destinations are Blackburn and Newcastle. Rovers boss Mark Hughes wants a target man like Viduka, although the former Celtic star's wages may put him off.
