Reports over the weekend suggested the Premiership champions are plotting a bid for the England Under 21 international in the summer. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has acknowledged a desire to sign another centre-half at the end of the season and was linked with Taylor. But any interest in the young stopper would be given short shrift by Roeder, who is determined to keep hold of his best players. The Newcastle manager has not fielded an enquiry from the capital and outlined his stance with regard to Taylor, and the club's other top youngsters. "Chelsea have not been in contact with us," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle. "No club has spoken to us about Steven Taylor, and if they did, they would be wasting their time. "There is no chance of Taylor leaving this club while I am manager. "We are trying to build a squad of players here, not dismantle one, and youngsters like Taylor and Charles N'Zogbia are the future."
