Tens of thousands of people are paying fraudsters to sit their driving test for them, the BBC has learned.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) says impostors charge up to £500 and can have taken more than 200 tests each.

The scam works when the fraudsters pass themselves off as the person in the photo on the provisional licence that candidates must bring to their test.

The DSA described the problem, the scale of which has only recently become clear, as serious.

I don't understand how this could happen? When i passed my test in January 2007 (1st time mustn't gloat).I had my instructor in the waiting room with me while i waited for the examiner, And then even when i came back from my test the examiner had to explain to my instructor how i did.

So Surely the instructor would notice a superman change over?

Why pay £500 to pass a test? Wouldn't it be cheaper to spend money on more lessons?

£500 is about 20-25 lessons at current prices, but its a guaranteed pass and its straight away no waiting...
