Kinda of, although that wasn't really the same thing, he wanted to come, but wouldn't break his word/commitment (then of course they moved him upstairs the next season). Not so much "thanks, but no thanks" as " I would if I could". (although thinking about it maybe he did turn down a chance many years ago, or was it the opposite?
