ONE of Sir Alan Sugar's business pals has got the "You're fired" treatment from The Apprentice because his property firm has gone bust.

Tough-talking Paul Kemsley - who ruthlessly grilled the show's contestants in the previous four series - was dropped before last night's episode, in which the five semi-finalists were interviewed.

Administrators have been called into his commercial property business Rock Investments.

And the lead-up to the collapse meant he could not appear in this year's Apprentice series on BBC1.

A show insider said: "At the time we chose the interview panel it was obvious he was running into problems."

Soccer fan Mr Kemsley, ex-vice chairman of Spurs and a close friend of Mike Ashley, owner of demoted Newcastle United, has continually boasted about his success in the City.

And he has shamed dozens of terrified Apprentice wannabes with his put-downs.

Last year he appeared in a famous scene when eventual winner Lee McQueen performed his "reverse pterodactyl" in front of him.

Administrators yesterday blamed the property collapse for Rock's problems.

But it is thought Mr Kemsley, 41 - said to have personal wealth of £170million last year - also ran into trouble with a disastrous gamble in the City.

He staked a fortune on US bank Lehman Brothers surviving the credit crunch. But it went under.
