Good result and hopefully we can win the second leg next Friday, hopefully get a decent turnout as well. I would have thought it will be about 3 quid to get in.

NEWCASTLE United Under-18s will be bidding to win a place in the final of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in 25 years when they take on Aston Villa in their semi-final second leg at St.James' Park on Friday night (kick off 7pm).

The young Magpies dominated last Thursday's first-leg tie at Villa Park and were disappointed to come away with a 1-1 draw.

However, Joe Joyce's starlets are sure to be buoyed by their performance that night and will be hoping to finish the job off in front of a big crowd at Gallowgate.

Admission is via the East Stand (£3 adults and £1 concessions).

Hopefully get a really good turn out. I think the 85 youth cup game vs Watford was my first match at SJP. My cousin was playing for Watford at the time, he was a midfielder, so presumably had the unenviable task of marking Gazza.

Newcastle United manager Joe Joyce has revealed one of the secrets behind his team's journey to the last four of The FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON - videos of European champions Barcelona.

His young Magpies side will often gather at the club's Academy on a Monday morning to enjoy a re-run of the Catalan giants' latest footballing master class.

And for evidence of the effect it has on his young hopefuls, Joyce points to last week's exhilarating first-half display during the Semi-Final first leg at Aston Villa.

For the opening half hour the hosts were forced to chase black-and-white shadows as United teased short passes around the opposition danger zone.

The opener, however, demonstrated an ability vary their approach; Jeff Henderson's lofted through ball springing clear Phil Airey who finished for his fifth of the competition.

And, ahead of the return leg at St. James' Park on tonight, Academy head Joyce told nufcTV of the video-room education which has helped his starlets to develop their game this season.

"We try to use a lot of video from teams such as Arsenal and Barcelona," he revealed.

"More so recently we have focused on Barcelona and we record a lot of their games to then go through with the lads.

"And it's not just a case of watching what they do on the ball, they also work extremely hard off the ball and that is something we try to instill in our players.

"But even if you watch top teams such as Barcelona they are able to break their play up; they play a lot of short passes and keep possession but they know when and where to make that decision to go a little bit longer and that always keeps the opposition guessing.

"We have that option to do both also; we are able to keep possession well with Brad Inman, Greg McDermott and Conor Newton in the middle, but we also have the option to go long with Phil Airey because he has the pace to get in behind defences."

We are out. Undeservedly

Tbf getting beat at home deserves being knocked out.

Dissapointing though after the 1st leg result.

Still...best Youth Cup run we have had so the boys should still be proud of themselves.

Errr are you quite sure about that? I'm sure the boys of 1985 will argue otherwise

We had loads of possession and attacking gusto but we never really had any clearcut shots on goal to make of it.

Did well to keep pushing after going down to ten men but they always looked more composed and in control than us.

Their keeper was excellent. Every ball into the box he judged right and punched/caught like an experienced goalie.

At least we're now spared the sermon about how Ashley has sorted out the Academy and how he's getting things right behind the scenes.
