Due to the board being down I'm afraid you all missed the drama as BBC Sport slowly counted down Marco Gabbiadini's top 5 most skilful Sunderland players.

The list is as chock full of legendary players as you'd imagine.

Just before my time but I had the impression that Billy Hughes was just a dirty bastard,

This is definitely considered a skill in Sunderland. The most iconic moment of their last spell in the prem seems to be Cattermole taking out Colback. They have avatars dedicated to it, T shirts, coffee mugs...

"Down the road" would imply south of Sunderland, he either means the smoggies or he's an utterly thick cunt, god help their Ops if he's a director.

Gates was a good player but he was past his best when he went there. I know he gets plaudits from them for scoring in that match but, iirc, he never played a top flight match for them and was also part of the side relegated to the third tier

Imagine putting that in a work email. Then actually reading it back and deciding it was a good idea to send it

You wouldn't think that appropriate from a junior new starter, let alone someone supposedly senior 😂😂

All that email is missing is a FTM at the end. Maybe that's in his email signature?

Wasn't he part of the reason Jack Charlton walked after a year? Pretty certain I read Gates had been identified as the replacement for Waddle but in the end, he chose to go to the Mackems.

SBR claimed he was one of the most underrated players he had at Ipswich.

We were definitely in for Kennedy who decided to play for his team rather than his old club, (probably had bad memories of our old board?) anyway he was, like Gates, going to the third division whilst we finished 8th in division one. A lucky escape for us. If Charlton wanted Gates in 84 that would've been a decent signing then but seeing the forwards he bought he seems a little small and mobile for Charlton?
