  1. Sorry to go off topic, but as an avid Viz reader for years I kept hearing about this place. Is it worth a visit? If you've got an accent like what I assume yours is I'd stay clear . I've managed 35 years with the Jamaican Yardies just fine, I'm sure I could manage a few Northern piss heads.
  2. Answered your own question there. It's the fact that he believes it's ok to be speculating about other players contracts that gets peoples backs up, personally I think he's a dodgy bastard but obviously nowt against you liking him as he's doing a job for your lot. Like I say, I think it was an error on his part, but I doubt there was a deeper, darker reason for it. I just think he likes rabbiting.

  4. I'm not sure he does 'tap up' really. ****Hear me out before you type your furious reply**** I was reading the comments on your 'Ba' thread after he was quoted in the paper saying something along the lines of "Ba is a good player" and I to be honest, I'm not sure what it was he said that pissed you all off so much. You know what he's like, he loves the press and they love him, he guarantees them a quote and they reciprocate with favourable articles. If you ask me, he's a PR genius. Anyway, on the Ba quote, he was asked a question, so of course he was going to answer. It's not like he instigated it by bringing the player up himself. I even saw a ridiculous quote on here from someone saying he probably got one of his 'media mates' to ask him the question so he could start the ball rolling on getting Ba at Spurs! That's pure paranoia. Where he did make a mistake was a few days later mentioning the get-out clause stuff, it was out of line in my, and a couple of my Spurs mates opinions, but I genuinely don't think there was anything malicious in it. To be honest, he's a great manager, but I doubt he's the football criminal mastermind rival fans paint him as. Even if I did think he was tapping players up, does it embarrass me? No chance. If it gets Tottenham a player that improves our squad and pushes us on, I literally couldn't give a monkey's what other fans think, most of you hate us anyway. And yes, I was pissed off with the whole Chelsea/Modric saga, but I accepted it as modern day football unfortunately.
  5. No, in fact his record as a youngster was comparable to now. His figures as a youngster are those at Bournemouth and West Ham. Great stats. In 05-06 Defoe, who was 23-24 at the time, scored 9 goals in 36 games. The next season he scored 10 in 34 games. And those were good seasons for him. Caroll scored 11 in 19 games last season, 17 in 39 games the season before that. That was an exceptional season to pick as he didn't get much of a look in, in fact he nearly left us as he was getting 10-15 minutes at the end of each game as a sub. It's unfair to class those as full appearances. As an overall total from 99-04 aged 17-22 he got 56 goals in 93 appearances for the Spammers. When 18 years old, he had a season at Bournemouth and got 28 goals in 29 games. Found his level A goal every game is not 'his level'.
  6. I don't agree, if there's one consistent thing about Defoe it's him scoring. The argument that he won't score for 3 or 4 games then get a hat-trick is something that can be leveled at any striker there ever was. Did Lineker actually score 'every other game'? - No, he scored 2 and 3 in a game every now and then, and the odd goal here and there.

  8. Are you actually London though? Last Spurs fan on here (who did your lot no favours what-so-ever) was a dickhead fom Reading. I'm born and bred Brixton (and still live there!) Technically, I'd have to be East London and eat Eels to be a 'real' Cockney, but my common as muck Sahf Lahndan accent is close enough. ... where in Brixton? I live on Kings Ave, but the Clapham bit, because I'm not a pikey Brixton Hill! What a small World, you are within stalking distance.....
  9. I thought his finish against Oldham was good, it's just a shame for him it was only Oldham as people will automatically say "he's found his level" etc I mean, even Downing scored in that game! I feel a bit sorry for him, he's the most slated player in the Prem at the minute, maybe he'll come good. He needs to up his goal scoring though. If you compare him to Defoe, who whilst obviously a different type of player, is still a striker, his record is poor: First spell at Spurs: 139 apps 93 goals Current spell: 78 apps 32 goals Bearing in mind he is predominantly a sub these days, those are pretty good figures in my book. Even when he's played for teams that aren't as good and therefore wont create as many chances, his record is good: Bournemouth: 29 apps 28 goals (level of oppo is relevant) West Ham: 93 apps 56 goals Portsmouth: 31 apps 15 goals. And Defoe gets stick! Not being funny, but that says more about your fans than anything else. Carroll gets stick because of the huge spotlight on him after the move and the huge target he paints on his own back with his antics off the pitch. People will forget average performances from you if you're anonymous (see Henderson), and they'll forgive indiscretions if you're performing on the pitch (see Suarez). Defoe has a decent record, but he's not consistent. He'll not score for 5 games, then get a haul, on paper he's got 5 in 5 which is a phenomenal record, but in actual fact he's just put 5 past a shit Wigan side that you would have beaten anyway. Add to that he's never been a grafting type of player who contributes more than just goals to a side and I can see why he's dropped. At least Bellamy works his bollocks off all game and provides a stack of assists. Carroll could be a top quality centre forward if he moves out of the spotlight and grows naturally into his game and if he grows up off the pitch. Put it this way, if he'd recieved the same service from Liverpool all season as he did from Gerrard against us, he'd not be under the pressure he is. It's like Torres at Chelsea, the guy is clearly a good striker, but for whatever reason he's not scoring. I think initially it was a system issue, then confidence. Now that Mata is becoming more integral and Torres' confidence is growing, you'll see goals flowing. Actually I was talking about football fans in general giving Defoe stick/not rating him, not really Spurs fans. In the main, I'd say he's very popular at The Lane, I personally love him. You mention the 5 goals versus Wigan, but Carroll is also playing teams like Wigan, and still not scoring. In any case, 5 goals against any Prem oppo is good work.

  12. I chose that particular pic of 'Arry especially for this forum. I think it really encapsulates the 'cheeky chappie' side of him that Spurs, and I'm sure Newcastle fans have all grown to love. It encapsulates the fact that he looks like a sunburnt scrotum. Well, he's our sunburnt scrotum.

  14. ha ha Difference is, my accent is Cockney, not Albarn's Mockney.
  15. You lot will know better than me, so I'd like to know what it is (was) about Carroll that was so great anyway? Fair doos he's going through a lean patch at the minute, but I've just looked at his club career goal record, and frankly it ain't that good: Newcastle - 80 apps 30 goals Preston NE - 11 apps 1 goal Scousers - 25 apps - 4 goals Total - 116 apps 35 goals. Now bearing in mind the vast majority of those games were in the second tier of English football, I'd say for a striker his record is very weak. What am I missing?
  16. Old, inconsistent, old and out of practise All right, crock, penalty magnet, old and slow, totally gone off the boil, all right, average, really good promise Superb, over hyped, inconsistent and no end product, shit, pirouetting back-passer, hasn't featured at all, past-it, done nothing, Parker-lite Mercenary and not there for long, good finisher but inconsistent, manages 60 minutes, crap What aload of shit. Looks pretty accurate to me. Just needs more emphasis on how ultrashit Parker is. I think he's totally mis-judging Assou-Ekotto, weak point of their team IMO - absolute wank, particuarly away from WHL. Half expected them to try for Enrique before he went to Liverpool. Apart from that he's pretty spot on Well, I hope Pardew send his team out with the same idea when you visit WHL later in the season, because Benny is well on his way to legend status for us. Lightning quick, tricky, good delivery, defensive qualities/positioning improving with every match, and to top it all off he's a top fella too. He's as far removed from the average wanker footballer as they come - modest bloke, lives in a modest flat, drives a Smart car, and when he's not using it travels around on the Tube.

  18. maybe figures hes a better chance of PL football here, what with us not being man u and all It probably pissed him off that Fergie chose to bring back a geriatric Scholes rather than give him his shot in the first 11.
  19. I think you'll murder them. You're at home for a start having just pissed all over Man United, they are away and on a miserable run. My Dad is a QPR fan, so I see a fair bit of them, and they are poor right now. I don't even think the 'new manager boost' thing will make a difference, not to mention they are missing Barton, who no matter what people think of him as a bloke, is a decent player, and certainly their best. 3 - 0.
  20. Wasn't it Souness who bought the wrong player for Southampton over the phone to the lads 'agent'. Not sure? Possibly. I remember him signing a player who was supposedly George Weah's cousin and a proper cush player. He brought him on as sub and then went on to sub him later in the game, after it became apparent that he wasn't even a professional footballer. Aye I think that's him, class. Guy's name is Ali Dia. From Wiki: Fucking hilarious. Not just hilarious, but completely embarrassing.
  21. On the other thread where you voted for points total, I think I chose 58-60 (or similar) for you which looking at previous seasons is good enough for between 5th-7th. As I just said, I think you are better than Liverpool, but I expect Arsenal and Chelsea to improve from now until the end of the season. Next season could be a good one for you, I think it was McFaul who earlier in this thread said that with a couple of decent signings you are a potential top threat, I'd agree with that.
  22. I definitely think you can. Gerrard aside, Liverpool scream mediocrity to me. Signings like Adam, Downing etc are just not top 4 material.
  23. I think that's the key thing really, it's all a bit new for us. And even though we have certain players that have won things with other clubs, as a collective they haven't. The other thing is injuries. Even though it's the same for all clubs, if we were to lose Modric, Bale, Lennon or VDV for an extended period, we'd suffer massively. Hopefully the injury Gods are smiling on us.
  24. As the World's most superstitious football fan, I will have to politely decline I'm afraid. If I say third, which would be an amazing achievement I think, it would inevitably kick-start a second half of the season Spurs collapse reminiscent of the 90s England Cricket team. That said I think it's City's title to lose, they are far and away the best side in the league I think. I'd be amazed if Spurs achieved 3rd spot. I don't think they have the strength in depth to mount a serious challenge. I'm hoping for a signing or two this month. We definitely need another Striker that can hold the ball up because if Adebayor is missing, Defoe can't play that role, and Pav frankly has a club foot - when the ball is played to him at anything over 4mph it bounces 6 feet away from him. We also need cover at CB, so Samba would be a nice addition, it all depends on whether he wants a shot at Europe with us, or more money at QPR. I expect Arse and Chelsea to have a stronger second half of the season, so yes, even fourth will be tough.
