Hooked. Didn't touch the ball in the second half.

Players are definitely being coached to stay down to give VAR more time to ponder decisions. Gomes nearly killed the Sunderland random.

I really enjoyed Salah pointing at Isak to apply a press and Isak just going nowhere fast

They have got a really limited CB playing out there right now which really doesn't help them. It is a bit like how limited we are with Burn at LB instead of Hall. Teams are just really, really good at low blocks these days and it is really hard to play against. Even with the quality Liverpool have. It takes really well drilled passing and movement to get through the compact lines and at the moment Liverpool are just plodding about. They remind me of how we played against Spurs in the first half yesterday, but even worse. They are so turgid in possession. It doesn't help Liverpool that Isak just cannot cope with physical defenders in close proximity. He never really could for us. He's absolutely nothing in this game unless a Sunderland player drops a big error and loads of space opens up in a shooting position. And Liverpool are not creating the angles needed to play into Isak in the crowded area the same way we would.

Isak is anonymous.

Sunderland are really well disciplined in defence but their players are mostly cloggers. They're getting by with a good plan and lots of effort. They are gonna be fucking annoying to play at their place.

I don't see what good Gordon does. He doesn't score and doesn't assist. Our problems lie with Joelinton not supporting the attack enough and not having a range of passing to make up for it. Then Murphy has been way below par - his deliveries have been diabolical, which is usually his strength. And finally Woltemade has been weak and sloppy (by which I mean he has flicked the ball needlessly to Spurs players multiple times). We don't have a striker who can come on so we are stuck with Woltemade. I'd be tempted to see if Willock can do more than Joelinton. And probably worth giving Elanga a go, despite him continuing to look scared of the ball. But we should leave Barnes on as he's been a consistent goal threat for us.
