Assists can be a very misleading statistic IMO, could set it up on a platter for someone and if they don't score there's obviously no assist. The other way round a mundane sideways pass can become an assist if someone then creates something out of nothing or hits a belter of a shot. Better comparison is actually watching. Ben Arfa is vastly superior to Marveaux from what I have seen - in every way. I'd have Ben Arfa as one of the five best players in the league in terms of ability and technique.

Winning this could well be a major turning point in the season, if we can go into our next run of games with confidence and take some points we'll pull right out of the bottom section into comfortable midtable land. Though with the players we have a available it's not going to be easy, particularly if we give them lots of space out wide. If he scored at the same rate he has this year and the first half of last season it would be worth it. I'd say he'd be on one of the higher bases in the team at the moment with some very healthy incentives for goals. Would help to explain why he was visibly upset with being moved wide last season.
