May has continually said we’d pay our dues.
-
BTW feel free to use me as your punching bag

I simply don’t understand your position? Next year we leave the EU, single market and customs union. We will have a two year transition while we agree a free trade deal. Following the transition we will no longer follow EU laws, we will implement our immigration policy, be paying a vastly reduced fee to the EU and be able to trade freely around the world. In what way is that not delivering Brexit?
-
Tut tut, I said “bent over backwards to get the deal done this week”. They have been much more positive about trying to get it nailed down rather than letting it drag til after Xmas. Everything they have said this week has been upbeat rather than the tone of previous rounds.
-
I think some people are getting a bit carried away with chapter 49 which is basically a fudge clause to get us to Phase 2. Sounds like full on Brexit is still ongoing. Trade deal, no free movement, FTS’s around the world etc.
-
Interesting to note as well how much Junker / Tusk etc have bent over backwards to try and get this deal done this week. I think this shows how keen they are to get onto Phase 2 and get a deal done. All bodes well for a cracking deal.

Fixed it

I’m sure she’s already got one eye on the Presidency

Yes, the one who could be in coalition with her very shortly

Getting out just in time..... In his speech to SPD conference, Schulz calls for a federal constitution for a United States of Europe by 2025. Martin Schulz has told the SDP party conference today that a new treaty should be presented to member states creating a United States of Europe and countries who oppose it must leave the EU. He demanded “there to be a constitutional treaty to create a federal Europe… the treaty will be presented to the member states and those who are against should just leave the European Union… We want the United States of Europe”. His plan is for this to come into existence by 2025.

Jesus wept Its all in black & white if you scroll upwards I said everyone involved in the negotiations was happy to move onto Phase 2 on Monday. The spoiler was the DUP not liking the wording which will be resolved in a few days. EVERYBODY (but you), understands that phase 1 is about making “SUFFICIENT PROGRESS”. Nothing has been agreed on Ireland or will in phase 1 other than flowery words as what happens will depend on the deal agreed in Phase 2.
-
That’s why I said it will be resolved in a few days. Your point is that Phase 1 is “set in stone”. It’s not. What happens going forward in Ireland will all depend on what is agreed in a trade deal.
-
They were all about to sign off on it over lunch on Monday before the DUP threw a wobbly. Ofcourse they were all happy with “sufficient progress”.
-
Eh, so why do Junker, Tusk, Barnier etc keep saying it? They were quite happy this week to move onto Phase 2 with the vaguest of words about the Irish border. Explain yourself.
-
Far too much hysteria around this. Lets concentrate on facts Phase 1 Was / is only about making sufficient progress in 3 areas. Everybody involved in the negotiations are happy this has been achieved, hence the sign off that should have happened this week. Ok, so the DUP have had a tissy, but we all know that will be ironed out in the coming days. Everybody involved wants to move to phase 2, the transition and trade deal. Phase 2. Everybody involved in negotiations WANTS to agree a trade deal. It will happen. There will be compromises on both sides but we’ll end up with a deal, life will go on and we’ll be free trading around the world.

Should have just downloaded some students thesis from google and used that.

Who are the big brexiteers in Labour? Nobody’s Who runs Labour? The left metropolitan coffee drinkers

Its not a case of wrong or right, it’s a case of what’s deliverable. This is the whole point in May calling the election so she had the numbers to deliver Brexit. Im still very happy for them to deliver the Brexit I wanted (free trade deals), but I’d rather have no Brexit if that can’t be achieved.
-
We all know they are just waiting / hoping. If there’s an election next year and they get in with a decent majority Brexit will be over.
-
Labour arnt pro Brexit

May this point I think Brexit would be cancelled
-
There would be a vote of confidence and the government would fall long before March 19
-
Meenzers confused by the two statements he’s highlighted. I’m pretty happy for any version of Brexit that allows the main benefit (IMO), free trade deals. I see no point in a “bodged” Brexit that prevents us from doing them. Might as well just cancel it. A no deal WTO Brexit would be blocked by parliament.
