  1. I think Pardew has to take his share of the blame for Guthrie leaving to be honest, I can remember mid season he was playing well with Tiote away at the ACON and Cabaye picking up a stupid 3 match ban ruling him out, yet when both were available again (Wolves?) he dropped Guthrie so that those 2 could walk straight back in. Now I know some people think you should pick your best 11 players for every game but it is a squad game now and Pardew should have shown more faith in someone playing well, he basically told Guthrie that it doesn't matter how well you play that if Cabaye and Tiote are fit then you're out, so you can't really blame him for moving on. It's also worth mentioning that Pardew wants to shrink the squad size down according to Llambias but have better quality coming off the bench so I don't expect everyone to be replaced.
  2. "Newcastle are a beautiful club. I'm open to anything. We'll see what happens, but there's nothing wrong with listening to Ajax and what interested clubs have to say," Anita was quoted as saying by Ajax Life. "I will seriously consider anything that comes up. Does it matter to me that Newcastle are not in the Champions League? No. "However, I'm an Ajax player for now. I'm focusing on Ajax. Newcastle's interest has made me think about a potential transfer, though. It's a sign that I'm on the right track and have to keep this up. I haven't set a deadline for when I want clarity. I'll just see how this pans out."
  3. Latest quotes from his agent confirms he wants to leave and wants to play in a top league, he's also said the style of play and the amount of playing time is more of a factor than money. So how much playing time is he going to get here and can we offer him a better role (presumably wide left) compared to what Monchengladbach can?
  4. He can play on both but he is all right foot, would work well cutting in on the left with Ben Arfa doing the same on the right.
  5. At least on par with Asprilla and Kluivert for us, certainly better than Viduka. Perhaps I should have said 3 decent strikers.
  6. The bit I'm finding outlandish is your argument. On the one hand you're arguing that he had '£35 million sat in the bank' when I said he spent £10 million+ last season and then a few posts later you're saying that it all comes out of his pocket anyway as profit is his profit and loss is his loss. Did we spend £10 million net last season? Yes or somewhere close. Will we do it again this season? Who knows.
  7. So he did put £10 million in out of his own pocket last season then?
  8. According to the sunday sun Borussia Monchengladbach think they've got an agreement in place for De Jong. http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2012/07/01/79310-31295895/?
  9. I was thinking the other day about when we last had 3 quality strikers on the books at the same time. Owen, Martins and Viduka stand out in recent times and they were all injury prone but then you have to go back 15 years to when we had Shearer, Ferdinand and Asprilla for the time before I think unless I'm missing something obvious.
  10. Plus who mentioned out of his own pocket anyway?
  11. Fingers crossed the news on Douglas is true. Centre back and right back are where we needed to improve on most for me.
  12. Without wanting to go all championship manager... We could potentially sign De Jong and Hoilett for the same money as we would get for Ba and Best, that would leave us needing £10-£12 million for Debuchy and Douglas, now the club has already indicated that it would make around £10 million profit this season plus the sales of Forster and possibly Simpson makes it doable IMO.
  13. Double Dutch: Newcastle quoted £16m for FC Twente pair Luuk de Jong and Douglas http://www.mirror.co...c-twente-946937
  14. No idea how many we're going to sign, if I had to pick 2 that I would prefer it would be Debuchy and Douglas as I think they would make the biggest improvements to the first team. I wouldn't be surprised if we signed all of them, apart from maybe Anita.
  15. Yeah Abeid would only be going out on loan. It's not just Ipswich but Boro and Bristol City linked with a loan for him too.

    Alan Smith

Fingers crossed the wages go to better use which lets be honest shouldn't be too hard.
  17. This is what the guy who tried to sell it last time for him said about the debt... “I know him well and I’m representing him now, he has actually cleared up Newcastle’s debt. On the balance sheet it shows they don’t owe money, they owe it to him. That’s not debt, that’s equity, a more efficient way for an owner who owns the whole business.” I can remember Matt going into detail about why owners do it here... http://www.toontastic.net/board/topic/32489-newcastle-united-finances-ending-30th-june-2011/page__st__20__p__1048369#entry1048369
  18. Is De Jong in the final year of his contract? I'm not sure how much more McClaren thinks they can hold out for if he is.
  19. Looks like Forster is finally joining Celtic for £2 million. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2166757/Fraser-Forster-signs-Celtic.html
  20. I'd say the chances of the situation happening are slim to none to be honest, unless the club was bought on the cheap while in administration.
  21. Close to Debuchy too after his coach admitted he wants to leave and we're going to up our offer. http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-close-in-on-debuchy-deal-1-4692389

    Demba Ba

Galatasaray have put the brakes on a deal and don't want to rush to commit. http://www.stargazete.com/futbol/galatasaray-frene-basti/haber-620836 Fenerbahce are interested now too.
  23. Apparently we are going to try and get both while we're out there! http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-chiefs-go-dutch-as-they-step-up-de-jong-and-douglas-bids-1-4692633
